I noticed that. I posed my questions to WD three times, not to mention a few other straight forward questions without any attacking or name-calling. He never did respond to them. Only to the things he could argue about, going back to the "innocent until proven guilty" mantra.

Dooj! Good choices! To this day, when you have people turn to Jeremiah for a Bible study, somebody inevitably sings that song, or at least makes some bullfrog reference! And the one that surprised you, I'd almost forgotten about. When they sang "Liar!" at first I thought they were covering this blast from our past:

Jesus made many statements along the lines of, "You have heard such and such... but I say to you... " If a man looks at a woman with lust, it is as much a sin as if he committed adultery. If a man hates his brother, it's as much a sin as if he committed murder. But TWI not only said that was addressed to a different administration, but turned the whole thing on its ear with the attitude of, "if all sins are equal, then nothing I do is all that bad as long as I'm saved." Jesus' point was not to give us a new set of rules that was more strict than the OT Law, though. His point was to show that God looks at the heart more than the letter of the law, and that we are all sinners one way or another so we can't be saved by works, and need God's grace. God is interested in a change of heart more than a change in just outward behavior.

We couldn't see God's spirit at work because we were taught that the "gift of holy spirit" that God gave us was now our spirit to operate however we wanted, depending on our believing and renewed mind. The whole focus was on self and not on God or Jesus.

Two nuns went out of the convent to sell cookies. One of them is known as Sister Mathematical (SM) and the other one is known as Sister Logical (SL). It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent. SL: Have you noticed that a man has been following us for the past half-hour? SM: Yes, I wonder what be wants. SL: It's logical. He wants to rape us. SM: Oh, no! At this rate he will reach us in 15 minutes at the most. What can we do? SL: The only logical thing to do of course is that we have to start walking faster. SM: It is not working. SL: Of course it is not working. The man did the only obvious thing to do. He started to walk faster too. SM: So, what shall we do? At this rate he will reach us in one minute. SL: The only logical thing we can do is split. You go that way and I'll go this way. He cannot follow both of us. So the man decided to go after Sister Logical and Sister Mathematical arrives at the convent and is worried because Sister Logical has not yet arrived. Finally, Sister Logical arrives. SM: Sister Logical. Thank God you are here. Tell us what happened. SL: The only logical thing happened. The man could not follow both of us, so he followed me. SM: So, what happened? Please tell us. SL: The only logical thing to happen. I started to run as fast as I could. SM: So what happened? SL: The only logical thing to happen. The man also started to run as fast as he could. SM: And what else? SL: The only logical thing to happen. He reached me. SM: Oh, no! What did you do then? SL: The only logical thing to do. I lifted my habit up. SM: Oh, Sister. What did the man do? SL: The only logical thing to do. He pulled down his pants. SM: Oh, no! What happened then? SL: Isn't it logical, Sister? A nun with her habit up can run faster than a man with his pants down. And shame on you if you thought this was a dirty joke...

But Twinky, don't you know that the Gospels aren't addressed to us? :lol: Seriously, though, the stuff about demons and God's supernatural power (what we used to call "Advanced Class" stuff) in the last couple of posts made me think. Was ALL of that just crap, or were there really some things going on spiritually? For a while I had concluded that it WAS all crap, but then in more recent years I've come to think that there is a balance even to that. Not all the times people encountered "devil spirits" was bogus, but it was taken to such an extreme that I suspect a lot of people overreacted and said it was all Way Crap. I've seen a few things that I can't blow off though.

Perhaps. Or maybe they just like to argue for the sake of arguing? In either case, as you say, "Let the fools trumpet their foolishness."

But we were told (or at least it was implied) that the center represented the center of God's will. That's where you get the REAL heavy revvy, that's where you reach full spiritual maturity, and you stood to receive greater rewards in heaven. The closer you got to the center, the more spiritual perception and awareness you had (see that thread for more), the more you could judge others, the more power you had over others, the more "special privileges" you got, and so on. Scary part is, some people are still in the center on their hamster wheel, and still think they're in the center of God's will, still think they have power and the right to judge, and still think they deserve special privileges.

One of the principles in "Christian Etiquette" was to follow what the host did. Yet I remember a campfire at Emporia where VP lit up a cigarette, but when one of the CD guys lit one up, VP reamed him out in front of everybody. He said, essentially, that you only do what you're directly told you can do, and you had to earn the privileges that he had. At the time I didn't know what to make of it. Now I see what massive ego and hypocrisy it was.

Oh, OK. That makes more sense.
