  1. I understand plenty of people confusing GENDER with GENDER ROLE. GENDER ROLE is entirely social. So, don't like that guys are supposed to be macho, beer-swigging followers of sports who dote on their cars? Don't conform to that. Be a guy who doesn't do that. Don't like the cultural expectations for women? Don't conform to them. Doesn't mean you changed your gender- you just changed your ROLE. I had someone once say that the Mrs and myself were a "traditional couple" or something like that. That really stretches the meaning of the word "traditional." Neither of us conforms much to gender ROLES. She builds things, etc. When we're dressing for ourselves, we tend to dress alike- t-shirt, jeans, etc. In general, the most traditional thing about us is that I say I'm a man and she says she's a woman, but otherwise, conformity is hard to find. We're not defying the roles DELIBERATELY, we're just ignoring them and doing what works for us. Naturally, someone can slap a label on me and call me closed-minded, but I really think it's easy to tell who's open-minded and who seems to follow narrow tracks of behavior.
  2. *checks* That WAS whom I meant. I was mistakenly thinking Tomalak was the unnamed Commander, and that he had been named. No, Tomalak was a different Romulan. The Klingon captain, likewise, was also unnamed. Here's hoping someone's got an idea on the others.
  3. Ok, a Star Wars/ Star Trek round. If you can answer all 3, go for it. If you can answer fewer, go for it. A) Art Carney from "the Honeymooners" (who played Ed Norton) will be remembered by some Star Wars fans. He appeared in at least one Star Wars VIDEO GAME, reprising a character he played live during the filming of the original trilogy (during the filming of Episodes 4, 5, and 6.) People who watch him in the role may catch an "Ed Norton" moment during his performance, playing against a Stormtrooper the way Norton played off Ralph Kramden. Either name his SW character, or where he appeared (for any meaning of "where he appeared.") B) When Disney moved forward with the sequel trilogy (Episodes 7, 8 and 9), they were good enough to get the gang back together again. All the living members of the principal cast returned to reprise their roles in Episode 7. (Since R2D2 didn't need a human performer, Kenny Baker is listed in the credits as "consultant on R2D2".) I appreciate the effort, no matter what I think of the movie as a whole. However, one actor from the original trilogy flat refused to show up in Episode 7, which I think is a shame, because there was a place for him in the story. Either name the actor, or his role. C) One actor rather famously played both a prominent Federation member and a prominent member of one of their enemies. Who is the actor, AND who did he play? (This question is a lot easier, so I'm asking for BOTH, not just one.)
  4. I thought she was, since the show's opening always gave her name last, and her character was 4th in the ensemble. Ok, I need something, let's see...
  5. "I used to rule the world, seas would rise when I gave the word."
  6. Capuccino, I bet. None of those more traditional, "manly" coffees.....
  7. Frank Stallone's an actor, too. In one movie, he plays one of a set of brothers. His character is given a set of "Directions even your brother can understand." He played one of "the Mario Brothers", . "New Jersey's third largest crime family." (It wasn't the only reference to Nintendo in the movie.) This movie was inspired by a song. A singer and aspiring musician/aspiring actor got together and wrote a song that told the story about a character- the world's greatest cat burglar- and his best friend. For decades, they'd said they'd put this in the soundtrack of the movie of this character- if his movie ever got made. Eventually, they worked together on the movie.
  8. I'm sorry, my brain didn't play along until I'd already hit "send." Did Joyce Randolph play Trixie Norton, or Alice Kramden? I think she was Trixie, but I could be wrong.
  9. Next movie. Frank Stallone's an actor, too. In one movie, he plays one of a set of brothers. His character is given a set of "Directions even your brother can understand." He played one of "the Mario Brothers", . "New Jersey's third largest crime family." (It wasn't the only reference to Nintendo in the movie.)
  10. "Hey, little sister, who is it you're with? Hey little sister, what's your vice-and-wish?"
  11. Enough, I need a little breather over here.
  12. I heard of something once, it was probably not real. A criminal was fleeing the police, turned a corner, and saw a bunch of badges. He stopped, and simply surrendered - becoming the first criminal to be "arrested" by Richard Belzer and company before they brought in "the real cops." I saw Ross D going up and down a flight of stairs at 86th St & Lex for one of those, SVU I think. He was descending for the takes, and had to walk back up for reshoots. I told him I had to hand it to him, because nobody came down a flight of steps like he did. ;)
  13. IIRC, the other 3 were Jackie Gleason (who went first), Art Carney and Audrey Meadows. The 3 of them minus Gleason, if memory serves, appeared on the US' "Comic Relief" in the 1980s.
  14. Since you didn't look for the answer, you didn't cheat, it hit you in the hands. Go ahead and give the answer.
  15. Next song. "There's a man in the funny papers we all know."
  16. Yeah, they don't write 'em like that anymore..... except maybe for Greg Kihn's "Breakup Song."
  17. Whoopi Goldberg Ghost Patrick Swayze
  18. For the Triple Movie Links thread, after 72 hours of no movement, googling is allowed- so we can just move this along. Ok, let's see. Not too many good links from here, but since I bothered looking it up, I'm going Carl Weathers Rocky III Sylvester Stallone
  19. Some songs are true classics, aren't they.
  20. But his sister put "THE LIME IN THE COCONUT." Actually, the real problem was that she added too much RUM and got sick. When she asked the doctor for something to settle her stomach, he suggested the folk remedy, lime and coconut (without rum). The miscommunications and hilarity ensued.
