  1. Really, Harry? You admitted you didn't SEE him most of the time. Why wasn't he doing his chores in sight and preaching to the animals on the farm, or, you know, the other kids, people who might actually hear something of use? Maybe Dad was on to something. David was a good shepherd FIRST, then a good man of God.... Later, we'll see what vpw has to say about kids and their work ethic. pg-78, Harry again. I thought he'd been preaching for years, Harry-to the trees. Also, Lamarckianism has been thoroughly discredited. You can not inherit an interest in learning. You can ENCOURAGE it, but not pass it along from birth. Finally, Dad seems to think vpw lacked drive, but you said he DID, at least about preaching. Hm. Maybe he had drive for preaching, but neglected his chores. pg-79. Anyone?
  2. How do you know for certain who is gone from TWI? Where did Elena go for ex.? Jan Jan Just off the top of my head.... twi has lost over 95% of their previous members, all told. The few who stick around are a bit more visible as individuals. Furthermore, twi has done stuff where they venerate old-timers who've been around x number of years. Finally, people who left-until Waydale and the Greasespot Cafe- just mysteriously vanished. That's a fair description for some of these people.
  3. Well, for Twin Peaks you'll want to direct questions to Raf. Before seeing the 2nd BW movie, you just need to know what "everybody" knew about the first movie: 3 kids went looking for the truth behind the legend of the Blair Witch, and wandered out into the forest. They taped themselves. Their tapes were found later-they were not. Nobody knows for sure what happened to them-the only clues are in the tape footage. (If you like the premise-following the action from the footage, and trying to follow along-then it's entertaining as a suspense film.) The second movie was based on the hype SURROUNDING the first movie. That's why the one local guy made his living selling BW souvenirs, doing tours of Burkettsville (formerly known as Blair), and so on. The other team members were following the legend, but each for their own reasons. They seemed to each represent different factions among the fans. The investigators thought there was a simple, mundane explanation, one was a fan because of the "witch" connection, and figured that the legendary "Blair Witch" was the victim of vicious rumours, one's only question was "how can I make money off this?" and one's connection: "Why are you here?" "I thought the movie was cool." The key to making sense of the second movie is thinking about the continuity, and makes more sense seeing it a SECOND time after figuring that out. As I see it, the answer is... All video footage in the movie reflects what ACTUALLY HAPPENED at any moment. The audience is experiencing the movie with the characters AS THEY REMEMBER IT, which is sometimes DIFFERENT from the video footage. Once you know what's on the footage, you know why the events as you saw them WITHOUT footage don't add up. Compare the scene when one character goes to the grocery store, buys something, ends up with something else in the shopping bag, and someone throws rocks at the van, with the video footage of the store's surveillance camera. If the camera's correct, the rocks and the bag items made sense. If what we/the character saw was correct, then it doesn't make sense. BTW, I think it was suggested they got "the chair" for what happened- the supposed psychic saw a flash of one of them in "the chair" and being electrocuted-I think that was supposed to be a foretelling of his future. ===== Wasn't this a thread about "Primer" at some point?
  4. I don't think of it as "raising children in the name of Ruth's husband's bloodline. Other than that I agree. The reason I disagree on this point: Matthew 1:1 "The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." Matthew 1:5 "And Salmon begat Boaz of Rahab, and Boaz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;" (Yes, Jesse who begat David.) Seems to me that Boaz' name wouldn't have been included if it was legally someone ELSE's bloodline. To me, it seems a matter of how being a widow was seen as a stigma, and how the custom was for another member of the husband's family would have to marry her to erase that stigma. Perhaps we're talking apples and oranges. Ruth's commitment was pretty clear before she met Boaz, too. Ruth 1:16c "...thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:" And, of course, Ruth is one of 4 women mentioned by name in the geneology of Jesus Christ, which means she was singled out as noteworthy. {"God has a purpose for everything He says...")
  5. False Dilemma. The answer is not "Either/Or"- it is BOTH. Love and Respect God, and remember that if you do evil, He sees. Of course, that's just me talking. But then there's HEBREWS 10.... Hebrews 10:25-31. But, don't let a little thing like an Epistle (ADDRESSED TO US) affect your doctrine.
  6. *does a search* Hm. A few people had some relevant comments. GrouchoMarxJr: Skyrider's reply to that quote: Skyrider had also said Shazdancer said igotout explained
  7. God bless. I hope you don't mind me editing you for typos and adding a few spaces. I find your story is too important for people to skip over just because they're having a little trouble reading it...
  8. Actually, BW1 was better than BW2:BoS in terms of suspense and so on. I enjoyed it on its own merits, even though it broke most of my usual rules for enjoying movies. The story was suspenseful, and DID have a linear plot. One of its strengths was its ambiguity-you could argue that the "truth" of it was one of at least 2 possible answers, both of which were supported by the facts. I also liked a few little touches. One woman supposedly frightened in the past by the Blair Witch was carrying a worn Bible...in fact, she had a deathgrip on it and held it almost like a shield. It looked like a Bible that had been much-used and much-read, but also cared-for. It was a VERY subtle touch which I appreciated. My favourite line from BW1: (Night before the trip, in a hotel room) "Let's do an equipment check." "Right-I have a bag of Utz and a beer." BW2, of course, had a bigger budget, but the plot was MUCH harder to follow, since so much was going on. You're kidding-you didn't know there was hidden stuff in BW2:BoS? It was ALL OVER the movie! When watching it the first time I saw something! For one thing, they hid little BW insignias all over the movie. For another, there were words hidden in some of the scenes. They're in the scene with the campfire (in the flames that shoot up-watch for when someone hands over a cigarette), in the scene when they pick up the last team member-she's napping on a headstone (look for when the camera's not on her), in the scene when one member claims she wants to learn from the BW (look at the leaves when she's on the ground), one scene in the factory/loft/whatever, in the one room with just the long table (watch the window behind the 2 characters talking), and when one character is trying to protect herself (look at the carpet she's sitting on-this one was obvious to me when I was watching it) There's other stuff, too, and I don't think I saw all of it. If you saw the "Secret of Esrever" short after, it explained that there was hidden stuff, and gave clues on which scenes they were in.
  9. Since 9-11 was local to me, it affecte me much the same way this affects a lot of people- shock and so on. All the people I know in the affected areas are safe, so mostly I'm angry at mismanagement in various levels of government. I also agree-you'll need some "downtime" away from all news outlets and to do some other things.

  11. I forget who it was who said they were surprised when the corps committment they had already made-for a 4-year program-suddenly changed into a LIFETIME COMMITTMENT while they were IN the program....
  12. You're saying they'd admit to seeing "Traxx" and believing the 1942 promise at one point, but would be embarassed to admit seeing BW2:BoS? At least there was a puzzle involved.
  13. Pages 43-44, we get a description of the Way Corps. Those of you who were IN the corps, how accurate is this appraisal?
  14. If they were posted in the opposite order, I'd say it was "Eurotrip". I don't know of a movie called "End of Your Rope".
  15. *finally reads the thread* Sounds like I might enjoy this. Either way, it's worth the effort to TRY to like it. I mean, I saw Blair Witch 2:Book of Shadows, but only because of the Secret of Esrever and trying to find all the hidden stuff in the movie. If anyone here saw it besides me (like the Traxx fans), I found out what the sentence spoken "widdershins" was. The captions for the sentence read "(speaking gibberish)" but it WAS a sentence of script. The trick is that, instead of parsing the syllables and writing it out backwards, they did the lazy thing and just reversed the letter order of each word. The actress then read the words as they now looked, and this changed the pronunciation of everything. Oh, and if you didn't figure out what REALLY happened in BW2:BoS, let me know, I have all the 'whats', but not the 'why', which they left open for a 3rd movie which, if ever made, will bypass theaters and home video and just be deposited directly into the city dump.

  18. Ok, let's see... We have the "this is the greatest class in the world" stuff, which is a lie because the ORIGINAL was LEONARD's and all indications are it's better. We have "the Doctor" thing again. We have the "he's been doing research and teaching for 30 years now and this is the result" thing, which, as we NOW know, is a dirty lie. vpw was an unimpressive researcher and teacher when relying on his own abilities (or lack thereof). So, HIS ability to teach and research here are irrelevant. It was his ability to photocopy and mimic the material, substance, style AND PRESENTATION of BG Leonard that made the difference between "some guy in a pulpit" and "some guy with a great class." Of course, the HONEST thing would have been to either make arrangements for LEONARD's class over here or at least acknowledge the material was LEONARD's, but honesty was never a priority with vpw-it interfered with his ability to put forth that he was some great one.
  19. Here is the thing, although I know what I know now, that is exactly how I felt at the time. It was the closer look that exposed the monsters in the man to me. Taking the class -- well at the time, it was the best thing ever. I took it in 1972. What the "class" did for me and what the "man" did to me were very different. But then I contend that the class was a good thing put together by BG Leonard, then hijacked by VP, he could not improve on the class in his life because it wasn't "his life." To me it was a way for him to start a ministry on another man's work... Be hailed as king, visited by poor girls he tried to convert into chamber maids, .... blaa blaa blaa. And yes, I knew him personally. I think I had to, in order to break the spell, or I might still be a lemming.
  20. Same discussion, page-33. page 34, same discussion, has something I especially thought was worth noting. Anyone want to address these?
  21. "It's the class that changed my life." "I was looking for God everywhere and missing Him everywhere, 'til I took that class. Nowhere else can you get this knowledge of how to read and understand God's Word." "And the thing you just can't deny about it is that it works. Apply the principles and you get the results in your life." ALP seems to have objected how completely her life was changed. "Like my place of residence-14 times in 7 years!" "My career plans my schooling years my relationship with my friends, family, etc. my ability to NOT go door to door my NOT wanting to badger people about Bible topics my becoming exclusionary to all musics except stuff put out by TWI my whole freakin' life in general" So the "changes" were not necessarily all POSITIVE ones.... I'm sure that if the same students had looked where BG Leonard was teaching, or were pointed in his direction, they would have gotten the answers they needed. The early classes were nothing BUT Leonard's class with Leonard's name crossed out and vpw's name written in in crayon. "No where else?" Well, if that wasn't what they were told, they might have been able to progress beyond the abilities of one teacher (and all his faults, like committing felonies and stuff.) Does it work? Well, we discussed how the "law of believing" as stated, is no law. At best, it is a rule of thumb. At worst, it is a tool used to batter someone over the head when they are ALREADY suffering. "Bad things happen to you? Your believing was insufficient-it's your fault!" Not exactly the act of a godly person-it's the act of a miserable comforter. The combination of "it's all truth" and "it's the ONLY place to get truth" places an unhealthy dependence upon the organization. Obvious in hindsight, no?
  22. There were four (or maybe five -- it's been over forty years) lights in a linear array. They were usually horizontal, but I think the line could be rotated. Each light was as bright as a sun lamp -- maybe 500 W, so it's posible we had about 2000 W shining in our living room. I was joking, of course, about the ice cubes; but each of us really did squint for a while until our eyes adjusted. George Please DON'T joke and make it look like you're confirming his claims-that's a BAD thing. So, a really bright set of klieg lights is 2000 W, eh? Then, doubling that would have been totally unnecessary in order to film (4000 W.) And multiplying by FOUR (8000 W) sounds like a wild exaggeration. What was the deal with "and I would be blinded for life if I went back the next day. So I went back the next 2 days and didnt become blinded for life", anyway? Anyone? ========= ALP, I separated out that thing about the women because I thought it was characteristic. Notice how he only described them cooking and cleaning? And the guys argued until vpw sorted them out, repeatedly. We'll be getting back to the affection thing later, I have a special surprise when we catch up to it. I'd really like to try to make an effort to address them in semi-order so we don't leave anything out.

Can we get 100*100, then? My 3 unique WordWolf icons STILL won't quite fit, but I have 1 or 2 things I can use. If anyone could resize my images and send me back a smaller iteration of them, I'd appreciate it....
