  1. That's peculiar- it's NOT how vpw HIMSELF told it. "The Way:Living in Love", pg-215. "We went as a family, Dotsie and I and the three oldest children. John Paul was two months old, so he stayed with his aunt, Dotsie's sister. It had never happened before that a man of God and his whole family went on a missionary tour. And I went unaffiliated, not under the flag of any denomination." pg-216. "They responded because we brought with us only a teaching and research ministry of blessing to the people, irrespective of religious allegiance, with no acquisition of property and with no threat to the freedom of the nationals. The response of the denominations-my own included-was supremely non-loving, even vociferously opposed. The National Council of Churches in India informed me that I was not representing the Evangelical and Reformed Church, which I never claimed anyway. From then on I stopped all mission support except one dollar per year." Mind you, I find YOUR answer a LOT more believable. vpw made it sound like he wandered around with no ties to anyone, not any organization of any kind. ("Unaffiliated.")
  2. As for Oral Roberts, vpw ripped off his "Red Thread" teaching. As for Billy Graham, vpw ripped off "preaching to the trees." According to Uncle Harry-who never claimed to have EVER seen it- when vpw was out of sight as a child, he wasn't avoiding his chores, he was "preaching to the trees." Mind you, vpw's own accounts of himself as a youth don't show him preaching, neither to trees or anything. Billy Graham, however, had witnesses. "He transferred in January of 1937 to Florida Bible Institute (now Trinity College) from which he graduated in 1940 with a bachelor of theology degree. Graham's mother and younger brother Melvin had gone to visit him there and found him talking to the trees, Melvin Graham said. "When we arrived, someone at the Bible Institute told us Billy was out in the woods practicing his preaching," he said. "We walked out into the woods and there he was doing an altar call to the trees."
  3. "Out of the tree of life, I just picked me a plum You came along and everything started to hum Still it’s a real good bet, the best is yet to come The best is yet to come, and babe won’t that be fine You think you’ve seen the sun, but you ain’t seen it shine" "Looking good, as usual, dollface." "I'm glad you like what you see." "I only wish I could see more." "They say good things come to those who wait." "Who are 'they' and how much of you have they seen?" "I never kiss and tell." "I bet you don't." "Tonight everyone's a winner." "It's a 'jack-in-the-box.'" "It's not the same thing..." "It is to me. This is my life, remember? I don't run at the first sign of trouble." "No one's asking you to run. We're just asking you to stay out of sight for a few days while we come up with a plan."
  4. Do you have SpywareBlaster? Spybot:Search and Destroy 1.5.2? AVG AntiSPYware? A firewall and antivirus on? Are ALL of them updated? Have you run all the ones with scanners? (If Spybot doesn't recommend something be removed, leave it in place.) You might try "Clean My Registry". It hasn't steered me wrong. http://www.smartpctools.com/clean_registry/ And an online antivirus scan. Since you're using a Trendmicro product already, how about Panda, and BitDefender scans? http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/ http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html After all that, I'd us the defragmenter, then restart your pc, then restart it AGAIN. THEN see if it's all better.
  5. This was worth repeating.
  6. Most of me was parallel to the fridge, but my arms were perpendicular to it. (That's how I got the fixings out. I was following Step 2, "How to receive it.") Well, I know I got GOOD cheeses and meats. The mustard WAS the BEST. Sadly, I wasted too much of my appetite on GOOD fixings rather than God's BEST. *hangs head* The drapes only look red if I'm really, really hung over. But if I get hung over, be certain it was on only the BEST alcoholic beverages that were available.
  7. Here's the entire "red drapes" story. It's not in the book, but it's in the class. Here's the exact wording.... ====================== "Another promise in the Epistle of I John! Way in the back of your Bible! I John! The Epistle of I John! First! Second! Third John! I John 5:14: And this is the confidence [this is the confidence] that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, [if we ask any thing according to his will] he heareth us: Isn't that wonderful? If we have our need and our want parallel we ask anything according to His will; how can it be His Will if we don't know His Word? His Word is His Will that gets our need and our want parallel. If we know His Word we can parallel it off. And once we get our need and want parallel, whatsoever we ask, we get. Many years ago when I was first questing in the integrity and accuracy of God's Word and doing Biblical research, just starting in the field, there were some things in the Word of God that we believed and that we understood and were practicing in our prayer life. And we were really concerned about learning more about God's Word. We had a letter from one of our radio audience from Cincinnati. And this good lady stipulated in that letter stating the following: she said, "now on Thursday night when you have your prayer group meeting and you meet with your people; I'd like for you to pray for an apartment for me. Because I have to find this apartment and I would like for this apartment to be within walking distance, two or three blocks from where I am employed." And she said, "It has to be a furnished apartment because I do not have my own furniture," and she said, "while your praying for this apartment within this area of where I am gainfully employed will you please ask God that in this furnished apartment there will be red drapes on the living room windows." My, oh my. That shook me. I thought to myself well good lord, if I'm going to pray for her for an apartment and she gets that apartment she ought to be thankful. What difference does if make if its got pink drapes or yellow drapes or orange drapes on the living room window? But she had stipulated in her letter please pray that there be red drapes on the window. Well I don't know who did the believing, I helped in the praying but I want to tell you something that night spiritually I hadn't gone this far; I believed for the apartment this I could believe for, it was a need I understood this. So I believed that she'd have an apartment but I can't imagine and I know that I did not believe anything about drapes at all. But we prayed that evening and within fifteen minutes of the time when we had prayed for this situation this lady in Cincinnati many, many, many miles away had a telephone call from an entire stranger who said to her "a friend of yours told me that you have need of an apartment, is this right?" And she said, "yes." And she said, "well where's it located?" He said, "well such and such a place." Within two blocks of where she was employed. So she said to him, "May I come and see it in the morning?" He said, "You certainly may." They made an appointment. She went next morning and looked at this apartment. And when she walked into the living room what do you think the color of those drapes were on those living room windows? Green, oh no they weren't. They were fire engine red. That's right. People, she must have had her need and her want parallel. Look at this. All right! She rented a furnished apartment and it had to have drapes on the window, right? Does it make God any difference whether the drapes are green or red or pink? No, but she had a need, that need was that they might as well have red drapes on, that's what she wanted. She got her need and her want parallel. She not only got that apartment but she got the red drapes on the windows. You talk about the accuracy of God's Word when He said He'll supply all of our need according to His riches in glory. Doesn't say He'll supply our greed but He'll supply our need according to His riches in glory. That's true. It's wonderful." *** ================================= Why didn't it make the books? Well, as you can see, it makes no sense, and doesn't support the claim it claims to support. My favorite line? "She had a need, that need was THAT THEY MIGHT AS WELL have red drapes on, that's what she WANTED." Seems some of us don't even understand what a "need" is. And if it was in black and white, it would be too easy to see that this does not make sense.
  8. From the thread "Craig and VP's relationship"....
  9. The syllabus for Session 1, question 2: "To receive ANYTHING from God, what FIVE things must we know?" (Emphasis mine.) The study guide for Session 1, page 1: "To receive anything from God we must know: 1) What is available (verses) 2) How to Receive 3) What to do with it after we have it. 4) Need and Want must be parallel (verses) 5) God's Ability equals God's Willingness (verses) The Orange Book doesn't support WTH's claim either. I don't know what he's quoting VERBATIM, but it's not any book I have here. It's clearly a 5-step formula in BOTH Session I's syllabus and Study Guide. vpw never demoted the last 2 steps into "possible hindrances", footnotes, or codicils. vpw HIMSELF made the 5-step formula, and numbered the steps 1-5. I don't see how a logical approach can say otherwise. As for wanting "mathematical exactness and scientific precision", those were vpw's own words, his own claims. None of US certainly added them. WTH, I, for one, will NEVER accuse you of trying to be smart and intelligent about the things of God. I will back this claim of yours up to the hilt. So far, the only people I've seen confuse the number 5 for the number 3 are: WTH, and King Arthur from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."
  10. How to receive a sandwich from the kitchen. 1) What's available. Meats, cheeses, bread, and spreads in the refrigerator. 2) How to receive it. Go to refrigerator, assemble the ingredients into a sandwich. 3) What to do with it after you got it. Eat sandwich while humming the tune "Honkytonk Woman" by the Rolling Stones. These were supposed to teach me something?
  11. *looks it up* That's the song. And Elvis DID sing it. With any song, any singer/band who did the song counts. (General rule of airplay, of course applies. If we can't prove they did it, you might be making it up.) I think the weirdest correct answer was one of mine, when I identified the performer of "Chubby Clementine" as DANNY AIELLO- since he sang it for his "monologue" slot hosting Saturday Night Live. Hey, it was a national broadcast, and you CAN look up what he did.... and he's the only one I've actually heard sing it... So, your turn, dooj!
  12. "Out of the tree of life, I just picked me a plum You came along and everything started to hum Still it’s a real good bet, the best is yet to come The best is yet to come, and babe won’t that be fine You think you’ve seen the sun, but you ain’t seen it shine" "Looking good, as usual, dollface." "I'm glad you like what you see." "I only wish I could see more." "They say good things come to those who wait." "Who are 'they' and how much of you have they seen?" "I never kiss and tell." "I bet you don't." "Tonight everyone's a winner."
  13. CORRECT! And I thought it was a great line. Your turn.
  14. Just an observation of my own. Back in high school, exactly ONE of the entire teaching staff (when I went there) insisted on their Ph.d title. Almost all, if not all, of the teachers had Ph.d's. It didn't even come up until the last semester of my Senior year. I learned a lot there. Some of what I learned was in the planned lessons.
  15. "A Society gentleman would only go out with you for one reason: to have a good time, a few laughs, and a little vo-deo-doh-doh." "I don't vo-deo-doh-doh!" "You vo-deo-doh-doh." "I don't vo-deo-doh-doh! "You vo-deo." "Once. I was going steady a whole year. I have a spotless reputation." "If, in heaven, we don't meet- hand-in-hand, we'll bear the heat. And if it ever gets too hot, Pepsi-Cola hits the spot!" "I am going to mold you. How does that make you feel?" "Like old bread."
  16. It's not the DS9 series finale. And who said it was Vic Fontaine singing it?
  17. I had one episode in mind, but I'm inspired to do this one instead.... "Out of the tree of life, I just picked me a plum You came along and everything started to hum Still it’s a real good bet, the best is yet to come The best is yet to come, and babe won’t that be fine You think you’ve seen the sun, but you ain’t seen it shine"
  18. No, I got it fair and square. And I THINK I can come up with one.
  19. No, it's "Teenage Wasteland." Yes, the technical name of the song IS "Baba O'Reilly." But they should have CALLED it "Teenage Wasteland." (Raf and I used to fun with this subject. "The song's titled 'Baba O'Reilly.' " "Ok, and the REAL name?" "'Teenage Wasteland.' " "Right-I've heard that song.") Since I forgot to mention the previous artist, "the Best is Yet to Come" was done by Frank Sinatra, among others. ======== YOUR turn, dooj!
  20. Here's the whole song, for those of you who thought I picked something too unknown.... "Out of the tree of life I just picked me a plum You came along and everything's startin' to hum Still, it's a real good bet, the best is yet to come Best is yet to come and babe, won't that be fine? You think you've seen the sun, but you ain't seen it shine Wait till the warm-up's underway. Wait till our lips have met And wait till you see that sunshine day. You ain't seen nothin' yet The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine? Best is yet to come, come the day you're mine Come the day you're mine I'm gonna teach you to fly We've only tasted the wine We're gonna drain the cup dry Wait till your charms are right for these arms to surround You think you've flown before, but baby, you ain't left the ground a-Wait till you're locked in my embrace Wait till I draw you near a-Wait till you see that sunshine place Ain't nothin' like it here The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine? The best is yet to come, come the day you're mine Come the day you're mine And you're gonna be mine"
  21. The last one was a "smoking gun" for me. It's "Cheers." You could have waited a little, spaced the quotes apart over more than a 12-hour period, you know, give a few more people a chance to log on and take a guess. That's just me, but I like to give "a sporting chance"....
  22. But where did JAL get it from? Knowing this bunch, from vpw, who got it from Peale. However, we don't- YET- have a quote from Peale saying it to document this, so, it is speculation, guesswork, at the moment.
  23. THOSE names were all RIGHT out of BG Leonard's class "Gifts of the Spirit". Henry Belloco, Maggie Muggins and Johnny Jumpup were all in the class that vpw took in 1953, and then-a few months later- retaught entirely, telling the students it was HIS class "Receiving the Holy Spirit Today." He told Leonard he was teaching Leonard's class on a one-time basis, but-as we know-he continued to teach Leonard's class. He added Bullinger's "How to Enjoy the Bible" and Stiles" "Gift of the Holy Spirit" book, split one class into 3 classes, and called them all "Power for Abundant Living." Snowball Pete, apparently, was NOT, but he was only mentioned ONCE in all 12 sessions.
  24. He was a lazy plagiarist. This we KNOW. I suspect he came across this story, THEN twisted it to his ends, making it MORE callous, MORE fear-mongering.
