Steve Harwell is dead? Aw, fudge.
-
That last line's familiar. "MY HOMETOWN" by Bruce Springsteen?
-
These are obviously storm chasers talking. However, I'm not aware of any movie CALLED "storm chasers." So, the next most logical choice is they were following an eponymous storm in "TWISTER."
-
Oberon the Ufgood was in "Dwarves Assemble." Lickspittle was in "Maleficent-Mistress of Evil." Lubdan was the eponymous Leprechaun in the movies of that name. And so on. Most of the time, it's pointless to cast WD as a VOICE actor since he's hired for his height. Well, it's a living.
-
I'm not sure ANY of those are cartoon characters. I'm certain most of them are not. (This actor is usually a poor choice for voice acting rather than live acting, for reasons obvious in hindsight.) Also not Mel Blanc.

This movie could TECHNICALLY be described as an exploration of the path to stardom, with glimpses of the drawbacks on the way there. One character abruptly abandons the lead at a phone-call from their agent, another expresses the loneliness of the road and having to leave home behind, and the lead must continually face the prospect of selling out rather than following his dream of making millions of people happy.

OK, a handful of shows have suffered mangling into 1/2 hour episodes in syndication. Many didn't have title characters. I need to think about this.
-
Right, she was the guest-hostess.
-
DING-DING-DING! Jill St John of "Mac Millan and Wife" was that episode's guest-hostess.
-
"My assumption is that the spoofs were titled according to the character on stage." Correct. "Mindy" was not the other character in the title. Remove that name, and what TV show might be suggested?
-
No, you were a lot closer a moment ago. So, "Mac Arthur and....?" This is hardly the biggest mystery around here.....
-
Ok, George. You have managed to correctly identify the three characters who were on stage. The guest-hostess was NOT Pam Dawber (Mindy.) She named the 3 spoof shows, each spoofing the TITLE of HER show. So, what was her show? I'll be sitting here whistling while you solve this one.
-
The only movie I know where that could be said to happen.... "AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON."
-
That song, AFAIK, is connected with 2 movies, only 1 of which is the obvious one.
-
I can safely eliminate your entire list. The key to answering this is to identify at least one of the spoofs they might have performed. There were three, and once you have one, you might have all 3 immediately- which, for some people, will make the original show obvious as it fits the same pattern.

This television show was spoofed on Saturday Night Live decades ago. When one of the titular stars was a guest hostess, they came out and they and SNL allowed the studio audience to vote by applause to determine which spoof they were going to use. Three different actors came out in order. They named one spoof, and the US general stepped forward. They named another spoof, and the Shakespearean title character stepped forward. They named the third, and the fast-food mascot stepped forward. An applause-o-meter determined which spoof won- so the guest-hostess and the fast-food mascot dashed off to begin their scene. One was dressed like a US general, one was dressed like a Shakespearean titular character, and one was dressed as a fast-food mascot. They came out in order as the guest-hostess gave the name for the possible spoof, and the audience applauded to vote, with the loudest applause going to the spoof they voted for and was immediately performed- naturally, with the guest-hostess taking part. What was the original show they ended up spoofing?

I, state your name, do solemnly swear that I think this is "Animal House."

If not Tarzan, it's some kind of apeman, I'm sure about that, but I don't know which one.... -
I certainly would have had it from that. Then again, I've had a drink in the Korova Milk Bar before. (The one in Hell's Kitchen.) If I started singing "Singing in the Rain", would it get easier?
