  1. The character is well-known to the degree that they made their show. I'd be shocked if you'd seen THEIR show. There's been others that aired in the US, like the Disney one.
  2. Ok, next one. Among others, Disney's done a series on this character. Then again, so did the Japanese. And the Filipinos. And others.
  3. Or a "JERK", depending on the movie, I guess.
  4. That Steve Martin can be a real churl, or a boob. Quite a fool.
  5. Since I'm sure of it, let's move on. "One, two, Freddy's coming for you."
  6. the Vanishing Sandra Bullock Demolition Man
  7. Often, it was. Outside of twi, there's a number of organizations with "secrets" that are worthless or meaningless. However, since they label it with enough bells and whistles, members think something special is being hidden. Thus, there's a lot of variations on the title "guardian of the mysteries." That's pretty much part of the human condition, and describes organizations that are current as well as historic. People seem to want to feel like they're "insiders" to some special secret.
  8. Depending on why, I don't see that as a bad thing. Part of the GSC's mission is to get the word out about twi. Part of te GSC's mission is to help people learn to live normal lives after twi. twi, as a whole, is currently a puny, archaic, unattractive thing. Outsiders are warned long before they CAN get sucked in-and there's little to attract them ANYWAY. The warnings are partly because of the GSC. If twi's membership is shrinking and is tiny, the GSC succeeded. Let's face it- twi's membership is still in "negative growth." They are small, and a few people still leave every year. Plus, people either drop dead (it happens everywhere) or get old and kicked out like Mrs W was when she needed care. They are NOT replaced by new recruits, generally. The only new people are children, and twi has been actively campaigning AGAINST members having children! Those children who DO manage to be born and grow up often flee twi. So, there's the aging twi population, and a tiny group of offspring who think they can succeed in changing things that all the establishment struggle to keep the same. Ah, the optimism of youth! And the naivete. It's how most of us got suckered in, after all. As for GSC members, over time, they get on with their lives and find other things are more important-family, etc. That means fewer posters. Is that a bad thing? Not for the people who got on with their lives. They are GSC success stories!
  9. BTW, I met a "Leo Blum" the other week. Never heard of "the Producers" before we met. In other news, this one's the original "Clash of the Titans."
  10. I do agree that SOME ex-twiers are a lot warier. "Once bitten, twice shy." So, they always look for the hook at the other side of the bait. As for those still gullible, I think this is the answer. Something is "secret" or "hidden"? They have to have it. And they lack the wit to tell it's NONSENSE, but well-written nonsense. But it's SECRET nonsense, so they HAVE to think it's true and grab it.
  11. Somehow, I get the impression the newer version never included this line. Not enough time for all the action scenes if you included more dialogue and plot....
  12. That's it. I went with the more recent War of the World's description.
  13. I've heard of them, once or twice. I don't know if the show's aired while I've been alive. *checks* Ok, the Disney Channel aired them in syndication once. When I didn't have the Disney Channel. Most shows, I have at least an outside chance if they played in the 70s or later. I can take a wild swing if I know they aired before that- say, if it's mentioned as a clue it was black-and-white or something. Most B&W shows didn't air past the mid-70s.
  14. Might as well just give the name. Still no idea.
  15. An illegal arms merchant is surprised he becomes a valued commodity to all- because hidden aliens have emerged and attacked the Earth, and military forces everywhere try to use every weapon they can find to buy time for civilians to flee. Ironically, none of his weapons are what win the day against the aliens.
  16. "The Money Pit and the Pendulum." See, sometimes the description cries for the order to be reversed! :)
  17. I think a precedent was set when Lot had to leave Sodom before its sins caught up with it. "We can't do anything until you leave."
  18. Technically, I could have. I didn't want to. BTW, the word "half-brother" there should have been "brother." It was late and I was typing fast.
  19. Hold on to your hats. I am going to link THREE movies this time. And you'll go nuts looking for one name if you're not careful. ================================================== A Californian means to fight for injustice just as his forefathers did- but gets injured and can't fight. But his twin brother can- and he is actually some sort of half-vampire. So his half-brother continues his crusade against vampires but adds to the first one's fight- rescuing the peasants from the mayor and the renegade artificial humans who serve him before they die of old age a few years after they're created.
  20. A) The internet is effectively infinite. Each website is not. The Powers That Be for this one pay for storage and bandwidth. B) The problem is not interested newbies getting a bit verbose. The problem- which was temporary and might return eventually but is not current- is people who show up and make one or 2 posts, book-length, with the obvious attempt to use the GSC as free advertising space for their own ventures. I don't mind the regulars or occasionals saying "Hey, right now I'm working on something, and here's a link." I mind strangers showing up specifically to advertise here at someone else's expense and then leave. We DIDN'T see them post for anything that wasn't their "ads", neither before nor after. A smaller problem was people cutting-and-pasting long posts from elsewhere, not with permission. The expectation-which is probably legally enforcible if the original writer cares- is to post a small excerpt and a link to the whole thing. Much of that wasn't intended to DISCUSS, either. And this is a DISCUSSION board. Since this thread hasn't had to be repeated a lot, it seems that this one notice was enough for most people to refrain from doing it again. I appreciate it when people don't need to be compelled to do the right thing beyond being asked.
  21. "What we have here is a failure to communicate."
  22. "Ülla will come at eleven." " I'm drowning here! I'm going down for the last time! I... I... I see my whole life flashing before my eyes! I see a weathered old farmhouse... With a white picket fence... I'm running through fields of alfalfa with my collie, Rex. No Rex, not on the alfalfa. And I see my mother... I see Mama, standing on the back porch... And I hear her calling out to me..."Alvin, don't forget your chores! The wood needs a-cordin' and the cows need a-milkin'! Alviiiiin! Aaaaalviiiiiiiiiiiin!"... Wait a minute. My name's not Alvin. That's not my life. Someone else's life is flashing before my eyes. What the hell is that about? I'm not a hillbilly, I grew up in the Bronx."
  23. Let's see... AFAIK, only one vampire detective on TV. Add a Bond flick..... "Diamonds Are Forever Knight"?
