  1. We can't help it if you approach our posts that way- our content's pretty much irrelevant if you disagree, then we're coming off to you that way. When you brought up Mister Magoo (both times), you certainly didn't contrast nor compare him with anything. You keep announcing I misrepresent you. The evidence says otherwise. I'm sure you've repeated it enough times to convince yourself, but reality doesn't budge that easily.
  2. Yes, please. I'd love to see the explanation for this one.
  3. John's saying he can't distinguish between the experiences in the way corps program with a social get-together with beer.
  4. vpw did some teachings, and recorded them. Someone came along, and transcribed and edited them. Someone else came along, did some more editing and polishing, and voila! A completed book. The chapters were usually stand-alone and were on completely different subjects. The editors arranged them in thematic groups when possible, and added catchy titles. That's neither remarkable nor unusual- it would be EXPECTED and hardly elevates the books. Most of us who taught regularly could have produced such books, even decades younger than vpw. In fact, some of us toyed with the idea. (Since then, technology's made such things a lot easier and it could be done a number of ways and "published" depending upon if one wanted to give it away or sell it.)
  5. That's it. I've known plenty of people who would chime in to complete the quote about "You're lucky he didn't kill you." Your turn!
  6. http://www.empirenet.com/~messiah7/vp_sources.htm "The style is sermonic; Wierwille alternately quotes a few verses of Scripture and then follows with commentary. It is easy to "write" a book in this manner. All Wierwille needed was an audience to discipline him to give regular teachings, a tape recorder and a transcriber. Rhoda Wierwille, Wierwille's secretary since 1947 (and who later became his sister-in-law), remembers transcribing the tapes of his Power for Abundant Living teachings into a 900-page manuscript that later was edited into a book of the same name. Any pastor who preaches regularly could produce a 500-page book every year using this method. "
  7. As has already pointed out, you got to post. However, just because your posts are there doesn't mean you're posting "correctly", that is, on-topic and civilly. Compare these 2 approaches: A) How do I feel about the whole thing being a scam? Well, that's just it-I disagree it was a scam. B) How dare you make this all about it being a scam? You're oppressing me for disagreeing! I'll change the subject and bring up the drug culture, Mr Magoo and anything else I can think of. You'd get a lot more respect if you tried approach A a lot more and approach B a lot less.
  8. Originally, this show began as a drama, with 20-somethings worrying about SATs and so on, but it got more popular once it got a shot of melodrama (and some new actors). After that, it became traditional for someone to get thrown into the pool each season. Thomas Calabro fans might appreciate the episode of Beverly Hills 90210 that introduced this series, which kept him working for several years. They might not appreciate the failed attempt at restarting the series later. Some people think this show's transformation into a popular show began when they brought back Heather Locklear's character and made her a regular. Among the actors on this 7-season show were: John Haymes Newton Rena Sofer Linden Ashby Jamie Luner Lisa Rinna Rob Estes Alyssa Milano Brooke Langton Kelly Rutherford David Charvet Patrick Muldoon Kristin Davis Jack Wagner Laura Leighton Daphne Zuniga Marcia Cross Vanessa A. Williams Doug Savant Grant Show Courtney Thorne-Smith Andrew Shue Josie Bissett
  9. "Well, it is a contact sport, okay? You want ratings. You want people in front of the television instead of picket lines. You're not gonna get that with reruns of 'Gilligan's Island.' 'Gilligan's Island.' You know, dah-DAH-dah-dah...yeah, that's it. The one with the boat." "Don't touch that dial!" "You're lucky he didn't kill you, too. Or rape you, then kill you. Or kill you, then rape you." "I warn you I get sick. Car sick, air sick. And I'm going to throw up all over you." "Go for it. Won't show on this shirt..." "Me and my big mouth. We should have taken the trip to Hawaii." "I had the shirt for it, but you f***ed it up." " This is television, that's all it is. It has nothing to do with people, it's to do with ratings! For fifty years, we've told them what to eat, what to drink, what to wear... " " Americans love television. They wean their kids on it. Listen. They love game shows, they love wrestling, they love sports and violence. So what do we do? We give 'em what they want! " "Mr. Spock, you have the com." "Who is Mr. Spock?" "Hi, cutie pie. You know one of us is in deep trouble. You know who I am?" "I've seen you before. You're the @$$hole on TV." "That's funny. I was going to say the same thing about you." "You bastard! Drop dead!" "I don't do requests."
  10. Oh. I've never seen "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" before- is it worth watching?

  12. I figured you might have a soft spot for the movie based on who wrote the original story- but I wouldn't have counted on it.

  14. I was leaning towards something by Mel Brooks, but now I'm thinking this was Roger Corman.
  15. I was young and naive, so I didn't see it. Then again, I wasn't involved that long before it all came crashing down, and where I was, there were already locals who were more about doing things at our level than following cues from lcm and his rantings. But, yes, I bought into the act and played my role for a time. Young and stupid, and altogether too trusting.
  16. There are REALLY people buying into this now.

  20. Talk of "killing evil spirits" is definitely a Doctrinal matter, especially as defined at the GSC. If you thought his less-extreme comments about ancient Rome and Scripture were likewise Doctrinal (albeit less so), you should have said something. There are rules, and ignoring them doesn't change that.
