  1. -According to this movie, saltpeter is made "by treating sodium nitrate with potassium chloride, of course." However, that's not what those chemicals would have been called, nor was that how saltpeter would have been made. (Soda niter with potash.) -A fist-fight breaks out between 2 characters after a series of insults was exchanged. The one that sparked the first punch was "LAWYER!" Both men were actually lawyers in that exchange. -The big chart that appears so conspicuously was added to help the audience keep track of what was going on. -The theatrical release of this movie left out at least one scene, allegedly at the request of the sitting president who thought it was aimed at him. If that's true, the request wasn't made at the time the film was being prepared for general release. (The current versions include the scene.) -It wasn't frivolous to ask for pins. Since electroplating hadn't been invented, pins at the time wore out a lot, and were used in great numbers. -This movie's depiction of "the committee of five" has influenced how the public has viewed them, down to how they have been depicted to students. -None of the wives shown in the movie were present in the events depicted, but one was shown to be elsewhere, so I think that shouldn't count. -At the time, critics VIncent Canby and Roger Ebert panned this movie.
  2. AFAIK, except for Captain Marvel/Shazam himself, that's been said in passing by a comic book fan in MASH, and was said a lot on "GOMER PYLE USMC."
  3. (BTW, the "outer space, the last frontier" thing was Patrick Stewart ON SNL.)
  4. I just went back through January. I haven't done this one in 2024, at least.
  5. Close enough, it's the second- "Addams Family Values." The first quote was at summer camp.

  7. "Hi, I'm Amanda Buckman. Why are you dressed like that?" "Like what?" "Like you're going to a funeral. Why are you dressed like somebody died?" "Wait." "So... you still desire me after all these years? The old ball and chain?" "Forever!" "I'll get them!"
  8. Different show. "I'm Chevy Chase, and you're not." "Our top story tonight- Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead. Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow." "It's time for "Daily Affirmation" with Stuart Smalley."
  9. Billy Crudup Big Fish Ewan MacGregor
  10. Better than I was thinking- I thought he was blacked out. Then again, the vacation may have been to leave the area before it was blacked out....
  11. Thanks. I suspect George is in the blackout area for now, and will return once he gets enough electricity to actually run his computer.
  12. Al Pacino the Devil's Advocate Keanu Reeves
  13. Ok, I was talking about this song yesterday, so now some of the lyrics came to mind. " CHARIOTS OF FIRE."
  14. Any chance this was " That GIrl????"
  15. Here, they called this " STAR TREK- THE FUTURE BEGINS." It's Abrams' Star Trek reboot movie.
  16. Outer space, the last frontier. There are the trips of the Star Trek Enterprise. Its 5-year plan calls for us to explore strange new worlds...to seek out new life and new civilizations... to boldly fly where no man has gone in space. Live long and be happy. George was obviously quoting "Star Trek-the Next Generation."
  17. Neither do I. Can we get another quote?
  18. I'm shocked. It was " the Weather Girls" with their one hit, "It's Raining Men." It was so successful, they changed their name to " the Weather Girls" because people confused the line claiming they were meteorologists giving a weather report for the name of the band. FREE POST!
  19. Ok, upload is locking me out, but I'll repost pages 3 and 4 when I can.
  20. For the curious, I went to try to retrieve the letter. The first page seems to have been incompletely archived, so I don't have a copy. (At least, not at the moment.) I'll see if I can copy and post the rest.
  21. Uma Thurman Batman and Robin Arnold Schwarzenegger
