While Mrs Wolf and I have watched "Arrow" and "Flash" consistently, we haven't seen the last episode of either. (They haven't aired here yet.) We can discuss the series as a whole, but before Tuesday, we should be all caught up.

So then it's not "K-Pax." I think that probably just leaves "E.T.-the Extraterrestrial."

BTW, I think the bigger assumption is that it's all ex-corp here. I don't know where people GET that idea- I keep hearing people thinking I was ex-corp or like a Limb coordinator or something. (I keep finding that amusing, in the context of my experience in twi.) There's a number of posters who are Christian who believe some, much or most of what was taught in twi. Most of them condemn vpw for the things he did when he wasn't teaching those, or how he lied about how he came up with them when it's obvious he got almost everything he taught from a handful of other Christians, and so on. ("For the things he did" is me being very tactful about everything that falls into that category. Start a thread asking about vpw in "About the Way" if you want the sordid details or a sordid summary. If he matters to you.) I for one am disappointed with the conduct of many people who claim vpw is some sort of important person to them, and consider twi doctrine sacrosanct. Often, they behave badly while condemning the behavior of those they disagree with- which is often much milder while they condemn it. I've been impressed with how some people have been able to participate in discussions on their own merits and with their own rules while keeping from derailing the discussion with their own opinions. (I'm thinking of Oakspear, who has participated in discussions about doctrines from a position of internal consistency-as in "does the Bible seem to actually say this, does the Bible agree with this" without getting into "should the Bible say this" or "I don't care what the Bible says." Providing, of course, it was a Doctrinal discussion and that approach was what was needed to advance the discussion.) Naturally, not everyone CAN participate like that, but most of the people who CAN'T, aren't posting here now.

Yes. Charles Dutton delivering the line about integrating the jail is about as welcome a line as I've seen in that movie, at least for me. (In the context, it means a great deal, and that's obvious onscreen when he says it.)

Since it's already been brought to your attention, MRAP, I'd like to point out that good manners are rarely a bad thing, especially when goodwill is both free and priceless. If you're just trying to pile on reasons to be disliked so you can turn around later and say "See, they all hated me because I'm a Christian" or "See, they all hated me because of my Christian organization", you will be called on it and caught. I was under the impression that the military encouraged courtesy with women so long as the soldiers are not actively in a combat situation at the time. Perhaps I have been misinformed. If not, then it's not a good reflection on the other military veterans we've had here for you to be the exception. krys had a perfectly legitimate point, and your manners could use some fine-tuning. You may not know your way around here, but mocking people is generally rude wherever you go and that can hardly be considered news nor unique to here. "I forgot his screen-name, and I was too lazy to scroll up the page and look it up, and too impolite to care" is neither an apology nor an admittance of any fault. And yet, she was right to correct you on it. The proper response might have included a "thank you, ma'am" to krys and an apology to Waysider. An IMproper response is to duck responsibility for shortcomings and refuse to offer an apology when an apology is called for. If you want to be treated like a gentleman, I'm sure most of us would be fine with that (there's always an exception.) However, that requires you to act like one so there's a reason to expect a response in kind. Ever consider that it's rude for others to just use acronyms you're unfamiliar with and just expect you to know them or find out what they mean? Ever consider that it's not nice for others to do that to you? Ever consider doing unto others as you would have them do unto you, or at least refrain from doing what you don't want others to do?

" If I get any trouble outta you guys, I'm gonna integrate this jail." "If you win this case, justice will prevail, and if you lose, justice will also prevail. Now that is a strange case." "I need a drink." "At three o'clock in the afternoon? What would your wife think?" "I'm my own man, Lucien. I drink when I want to." "When did she leave town?" "This morning." "Our society cannot condone men who take the law into their own hands." "We knowed each other since childhood. It's my fault. No matter what gets said in court. I knew what I was doing, and I sure didn't intend to hurt you, but just them two boys. I know it don't mean much now, but I'm sorry." 1."Ask if he thinks I should go to jail." 2."Carl Lee, they amputated his leg because you shot him. He's the prosecution's witness." 1."You're my lawyer ain't ya? Ask him." 2."Your Honor, one question." 3."Make up your mind, Mr. Brigance." 2."Deputy Looney, do you think Carl Lee shooting you was intentional?" 4."No sir. It was an accident." 1."Ask him!" 2."Do you think he should be punished for shooting you?" 4."No, sir. I hold no ill will toward the man. He did what I would have done." 2."What do you mean by that?" 4."I mean, I don't blame him for what he did. Those boys raped his little girl." 5."Objection, your Honor! The witness's opinion on this matter is irrelevant." 2."Your Honor, I believe Deputy Looney has earned the right to speak here today." 3."Overruled. Continue." 2."Go ahead, Dwayne." 4."I got a little girl. Somebody rapes her, he's a dead dog. I'll blow him away just like Carl Lee did." 5."Objection your Honor!" 2."Do you think the jury should convict Carl Lee Hailey?" 3."Don't answer that question." 2."He's a hero. You turn him loose." 3."The jury will disregard..." 4."Turn him loose!" 5."Your honor, you silence that witness!" 4."You turn him loose!"

That's him. He made one career out of a lot of those Hammer horror movies, and was part of their "dream team" (or, I guess, "nightmare team") that all collaborated on "The House of Long Shadows" (along with Vincent Price, Christopher Lee and John Carradine.) He was introduced to our generation when he played Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin in "Star Wars." (Episode 4-a New Hope.) As an older British actor, he also played a number of other roles for British actors, some quite famous.

Any chance this is "Othello"?

*checks* It does indeed. My browser security settings tripped me up there. Somehow, it let me in to Matthew, but nothing else, until I made some changes. You recall correctly. You probably recall my surprise upon hearing another version used the italics. It was later that I read a book that gave some information on a number of versions. It looked like they were trying to say the NIV was tops, but they highlighted all the things I wanted in a paper Bible- and they all applied to the NASB but not all to the NIV. The only things I don't like about the NASB: A) It refuses to call itself a "version", and I find that pretentious B) it's not public domain, so there's limits on where and how it can be found Those don't stop me from buying copies or using it online, I use it despite disliking those aspects.

It is "TAXI." Personally, I didn't think the clue was that good, but ok, I can be a hard critic on my own stuff. Elaine Nardo:"I'm only going to be working here part-time. I'm not really a taxi driver." Alex Rieger: "Oh yeah, I know. We're all part-time here. You see that guy over there? Now, he's an actor. The guy on the phone, he's a prize fighter. This lady over here, she's a beautician. The man behind her, he's a writer. Me? I'm a cab driver. I'm the only cab driver in this place."

According to one character in this series' pilot, he was the only person who actually admitted to his job- all his coworkers claimed they were really all in other professions, but worked with him to pay the bills until their careers took off.

So it's Raf's turn, even though we started chatting afterwards.

Raf, you're thinking of the NASB-The New American Standard Bible (version.) Last I heard, the Bibles that add the italics for that are the KJV, New KJV, and the NASB, and the JW's "New Kingdom Translation" version uses brackets to serve the same purpose. Of those, I think the NASB would serve a modern audience best. The KJV's language is 500 years old, and the phraseology is archaic. That's fine for us Shakespeare fans, but for everyone else? A source independent of twi and ex-twi groups really talked up the NASB, and I've found it's the version I recommend now. ================ As for my opinion on how the REV renders John 11, I can't form one because they posted Matthew but not John online. So, their version is not available. Unless this was some sort of attempt to boost sales of the book, we're at an impasse about anything except Matthew.
