  2. Mrs Wolf, I'm pretty sure. In fact, my parents never saw it, and we didn't see it growing up, either.
  3. Didn't have enough regular characters to spin off 8 of them into another show.
  4. Ok, Hanna-Barbera did a cartoon that didn't have that many episodes, but it STILL shows up in reruns now and again, and, amazingly enough, is known in a number of other countries. (Not bad for exactly 34 episodes of cartoon.) There have been some issues over who had the rights to the cartoon, but they seem to have been worked out. (BTW, it was inspired by a movie.) That cartoon has had a sequel (of dubious quality) and some characters appeared in other cartoons. One different cartoon had 8 characters of the original series become stars of this cartoon (with one casting change for "a 9th character.") Another cartoon had characters fro m the original cartoon spin off or appear in other series' of cartoons (generally short-lived also.) One cartoon had 2 of them appear in the first episode to vex a character famous enough to get his own theatrical movie. (In fact, this happened in 2 different series with those 3 characters.) The same 2 troublesome characters I mentioned before also got their own cartoon, which took place chronologically before the original series (but was unconnected to it in any way.) Finally, those SAME 2 characters were going to appear as regulars in ANOTHER cartoon (a rather successful one that had a 2nd season and had a huge ensemble cast.) However, concerns about who could use them probably were the reason why the 2 of them were replaced with obvious expys of them (characters made as copies of an original.) Both the last cartoon I mentioned and the first cartoon I mentioned had their own comic books- the first one by Gold Key and the second one by Marvel Comics. (Would you believe I met one of the guys who worked on the latter? ) More recently, DC has gotten in on the action, with a comic book limited series inspired by the original cartoon and using some of the original characters but changing them and their setting and just about everything. In short, this is an old cartoon that's been watched by lots of people, and remembered by lots of people. What is it?

  6. People it has been like 30 years since most of this stuff went down what the hell are you people doing here still discussing VPW and the rest [I noticed you "necro'd" a thread inactive more than a decade, just to say your peace on a long-dead discussion. If you cared about the subject, 30 years would be no barrier to you. But people were hurt, people died, and people are processing all the information NOW to get their healing and move on. Last of all, new people hear about twi, and they come here to learn about it- then steer clear. We help people by discussing all of this.] I see someone here mentioned this a place for healing - you are kidding right [Just as diabetes medication doesn't help someone who doesn't have diabetes, perhaps the help here is not useful to you- but it can mean life-or-death to another. You can choose to respect that and just let things run their course.] Ralph damn man revengence is mine dairy the Lord (why am I quoting scripture to you Oh My Gosh !!!) you have swallowed the bitter pill and I know you will just rationalize some argument to show I am wrong remember the scripture whatsoever things are pure of good report etc of course you do [Alexander the coopersmith did me much evil- The Lord reward him according to his works. There's warning about evildoers in Scripture. It's not all just shiny "sing Kumbayah and ignore those seeking to harm the flock."] damn you make me angry and VERY sad thwre is still time brother forgive forgive forgive the warning has been sounded long ago! [And it still needs sounding, as long as twi and its clones still exist. People are still arriving and seeking answers-and getting them. This allows them to heal, grow, and get on with their lives.] you are no helping anyone most of all Christ by continuing in this manner [Hundreds of people have posted to say the opposite. We don't know the numbers of those who never signed up to do that- but we know there have been plenty.] peace out

I heard (when Reagan enacted that) that it had to do with drunk driving, so it was a matter of limiting the driving, or limiting the drinking. So, they limited the drinking, at least on paper. I've heard people say that soldiers between 18-21 can drink when on duty (on base or in a theater of operations.) In fact, someone once told me of how he joined the military and learned to drive, to drink, and to drink and drive...all on the same night. Other countries seem to have 18 as a drinking age- in countries where drinking is allowed. I expect there's countries that are OFFICIALLY dry at all ages. (Thus the phrase "Today I drink, tomorrow Allah forgives.") Frankly, I've never been a huge drinker, but the idea of getting away with something made underage drinking more interesting. When I visited the UK at age 20, it was perfectly legal for me to drink there- which took all the fun out of it since I wasn't going to drink beer for the taste. (So, I had 1 beer during my entire visit.) I think, in the US, people tend to have a view that some drinking is ok in their homes between 18 and 21, provided one isn't driving after that. I've encountered that as a practice more than once, and it never seemed to have been articulated as some sort of official "rule of thumb." I think people independently came up with it. In Switzerland, there's some limited alcoholic consumption even among early teens and soon-to-be teens. I'd have to ask someone to repeat what I was told before to get more specific.
  8. *thinks* *thinks some more* *comes back and thinks some more* Is the lead character an Uncle?
  9. I hope Raf knows. Or Human checks in and knows. This obviously isn't "Zelig", and I'm not a walking encyclopedia on all his movies. I know one or two pretty well, and another few vaguely. Oh, and one of his books.
  10. YES. I didn't even have to bring in Caviezel or something. Who would expect MAX VON SYDOW to be cast as Jesus? I was prepping a round about Victor Garber, and saw that one of his first cinematic roles was as Jesus in "Godspell." Obviously, lots of actors have played him in movies over the decades. Seriously, though- Sydow?
  11. Ok, next actor.... no, wait. next ROLE. Harder to come up with, but I prefer them when I think of them. Victor Garber Jeffrey Hunter H.B. Warner Brian Deacon Ted Neeley Max Von Sydow
  12. Darned if I know... "Annie Hall"??
  13. *thinks* I forget who played "the merry munchkin", but I know another movie she was in. Zelda Rubenstein the Last Resort (1994) Corey Haim The closing theme for the movie ("the Last Resort") was performed by Dread Zeppelin! Supposedly, Robert Plant is a fan of them. Their lead singer is "Tortelvis", an Elvis impersonator who sings for a reggae band. I SWEAR I'm not making this up.
  14. This doesn't sound like it fits any Mel Brooks scenario, so it's probably Woody Allen. I'm hazy on most of his stuff. However. Was it "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask)?"
  15. Your shrink ran off to Europe and didn't even... ok, no need to draw weapons. I was getting to it. The answer is "Cheers." I was stuck until I started narrowing down "an actor died, replaced by an actor who shares his character's name". "Coach", aka "Red" as his teammates called him, ("Because your hair was red?" "No, because I read a book.") well, his actor died, and Woody Harrelson came in as Woody Boyd to replace him. The theme song is nice, and has a second verse. Way back in high school, I sang in the chorus. I showed my friend Ben (Michael S' son) the theme song, and he agreed it was nice. Later, he recommended it to the chorus teacher, who got the whole thing. The second verse is weird. "Roll out of bed, Mr Coffee's dead- the morning's looking bright. And your shrink ran off to Europe, and didn't even write. And your husband wants to be a girl. Be glad there's someplace in the world where everybody knows your name...."
  16. Ok, Carmen Electra was in that. (She played the Drew Barrymore spoof from the beginning of "Scream.") What was she in that I can link ANYBODY to? (I know a few others, but I can't think of other movies they were in.) Oh, right! Carmen Electra Epic Movie Crispin Glover
  17. Roll out of bed, Mr Coffee's dead, you're morning's looking bright...
  18. "Robbie? This is Urich. Get ready to replate the front page. I've got a REAL story.." Unless he appeared in a Spiderman movie, Ben Urich only appeared in 'DareDevil", where he was played by JOE PANTOLIANO. Was Bob Keane "Bobbo"??? Was Doc Robbins from a season 1 "Highlander" episode? *slaps forehead* Snake was from "Running Scared." (Duh.) Cosmo Renfro sounds familiar. Was he a Federal Marshall in "the Fugitive"?
  19. A) was "the Beast Must Die." I saw that on SciFi once, IIRC. (I DID guess correctly, but I had it down to 2 suspects and then guessed.) B) was "the Abominable Dr Phibes", as George said. IIRC, TCM's aired this in October. (Possibly AMC.) C) was "the Tingler." I discovered it by accident, looking among movies released into the public domain. It's watchable, but not nail-biting. The monster is something that can kill- but it can be stopped if the victim SCREAMS. During the movie, there's a moment where it looks like the monster crosses the film projection, like it was in the booth or in front of the booth. The announcer then says "THE TINGLER IS LOOSE IN THIS THEATER! SCREAM, SCREAM FOR YOUR LIVES!" The victims are supposed to feel a tingling if the monster is attacking them- either scream now or die in seconds. In some of the bigger markets, they had some of the audience chairs rigged to vibrate a bit on command- which is why the opening announcement is a setup to a unique promotional (or gag, depending on your perspective.) D) was "Macabre." William Castle ALSO directed this one, which explains all the gimmicks. George's turn!
  20. Ok, it's a round of obscure Halloween-style movies. Name ANY of them to take the round. A) This movie's cast includes Peter Cushing. It''s a horror movie, and a murder mystery. Before the movie's climax, there's a 60-second pause in the movie, allowing the theater audience a chance to see if they can guess which character is the werewolf. B) This movie's cast includes Vincent Price. The killer takes revenge for the death of his wife (seen in photos as Caroline Munro). He himself survived a car crash, but chose to wear prosthetic masks to cover his face, and had to retrain himself to be able to speak again. (The resulting visual is a bit unnerving.) He plans his killings with a theme of the 10 plagues of Egypt. The ending looked pretty final, but this movie had a sequel anyway. C) This movie is in the public domain now. It was a black-and-white horror movie. The producer/director recorded a small expository scene to play before the movie. It was himself, reading the following script: "I am William Castle, the director of the motion picture you are about to see. I feel obligated to warn you that some of the sensations—some of the physical reactions which the actors on the screen will feel—will also be experienced, for the first time in motion picture history, by certain members of this audience. I say 'certain members' because some people are more sensitive to these mysterious electronic impulses than others. These unfortunate, sensitive people will at times feel a strange, tingling sensation; other people will feel it less strongly. But don't be alarmed—you can protect yourself. At any time you are conscious of a tingling sensation, you may obtain immediate relief by screaming. Don't be embarrassed about opening your mouth and letting rip with all you've got, because the person in the seat right next to you will probably be screaming too. And remember—a scream at the right time may save your life." D) This movie's cast includes Jim Backus. A killer has kidnapped someone and trapped them in a coffin. They have 5 hours to find the victim or they will suffocate. Theater-goers were given a $1000 certificate for a life insurance policy from Lloyd's of London, to pay off if they died while watching the movie in the theater. They also had "nurses" on hand in case a viewer needed medical assistance, and parked hearses nearby. The directer himself showed up to the premiere emerging from a coffin.
  21. Ok, my router decided to call an early night last night, so my last attempt to post this blew away. Universal did the classic movie monsters, including the classic Frankenstein look that was used for Herman M. The Munster Koach was part Model T Ford (that's why it has that black hood!) Mel Blanc did the voice of the Raven (in some episodes.) Yvonne De Carlo was in "the Ten Commandments". I noted that the episode of "I Love Lucy" where Ricky's press agent tried to have him connected with every Hollywood Starlet (while promoting "Don Juan") had Yvonne de Carlo's name at the end of the list.
