Hm. I have a copy of that movie on DVD, sitting on a shelf. I'm waiting for the right mood to play it. But just mentioning it puts me in the right time-frame. We're talking an 80s flick here. Ok, the song is "Rhythm of the Night." The artist was a De Barge, so I'm going with El De Barge. (The movie I meant was "the Last Dragon", featuring Taimok as "Bruce Leroy", and Sho Nuff, the self-appointed Shogun of Harlem.) (I met Taimok once, when a friend was ruining a shoot of one of his movies. I swear it's true. I had 2 young brothers tagging along with me in lower Manhattan, and we were having trouble looking for the uptown entrance for a station. We passed an alley, and saw a guy holding a tied woman, with her looking bruised, and him holding a gun to her head. I began to move us faster at the sight of the gun, and kept us moving when I saw the film camera rolling. I was thinking we might actually make the final cut since we were doing the obvious. One brother decided to stop and stand completely still, and ruined the shot. Darned if I know where the autograph went, but he signed one for each of us since I had paper. Taimok, not the kid.) ( I remember the line the gunman said, but to this day, I don't know if the movie was ever released. )

It's also not "Good Time", by INXS and Jimmy Barnes (off the "Lost Boys" soundtrack.) It sounds familiar, but I just can't place it yet.

She should have followed up with that specialist in Austin.

Some of those may sound a bit familiar, but nothing's springing to mind. Mrs Wolf couldn't answer it yet, either.

I can't get the music to play in my head yet, so I'm stuck for now.

Correct, but I thought you'd pause and let someone else take it. No problem, but it's your turn. :)

In case you need to be quoted to get a response, I'm quoting you. :)

All right, I REALLY didn't see that coming. If you're up for it, I'd really like to hear some of your journey, what led to this, to whatever degree you'd volunteer. (Naturally, I can't speak for everyone, but I don't intend to be rude if you volunteer anything.)

Ok, violating my usual rule about older songs. This song is not from the mid-80s or earlier. I'll take the title OR the artist. "There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say. You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain, baby. To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny. Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?"

All of those are giveaways. I was thinking of using the second one, in fact. "Blazing Saddles".

I would have gotten the title cut a lot faster, but that's just me. Then again, I heard a commercial recently use "Starman", so what do I know?
-
Just so we have confirmation, these 2 screen-names belong to the same person? If so, yes, I'm VERY surprised. (One, that he was a Mod, two, that his personal journey went in this direction.) Before we get to discussing that, I'd just like independent confirmation that this wasn't just oldies making some odd joke at modwildcat's expense.

Hello. Have a seat. Feel free to look around. If you're new, you'll be shocked at some of the opinions, but there's few opinions universally held here. We disagree with each other about a lot of things, and find the discussions to be healthy. If all you're used to is twi or twi-lite, that may be a whole new experience, or even a shocking experience. Take it at your own pace. BTW, most of us may hold strong opinions- but that doesn't mean our lives revolve around them, or that we're very emotional about them. There are differences.

Couldn't get it without the chorus. "STARMAN", by David Bowie.

Yes! Got it in one.

Next one. "'m going to be honest with you. I hate this place. This zoo, this prison, this reality, whatever you want to call it. I can't stand it any longer. It's the smell—if there is such a thing—I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink and every time I do, I fear I have somehow been infected by it—it's repulsive! Isn't it? I must get out of here. I must get free...and in this mind is the key, my key."

Splinter Cults are WORSE........not better
WordWolf replied to skyrider's topic in Out of the Way: The Offshoots
I'm drawing a distinction between some of the FOLLOWERS (quietly trying to do godly things, helping others, praying) and those who rushed to the front to claim the microphone. We don't hear about the usual adherent anywhere because it's boring news- few want to hear about those who run soup kitchens and build houses, but they'd stop to hear about the corrupt "leader" who got caught. Those who pushed their way to the titles, IMHO, are in it for the titles. -

Back when lcm drove off 80% of twi in 88-89 with his "line in the sand", a fellow with the screen-name of Cesar Salad said he thought the biggest problem with lcm was that he wasn't able to get humble enough to "wash the apostles' feet" and so he wasn't fit for ministry work, since it was for HIS OWN glory and not for Jesus. It's no different for any other alleged "leader" that vpw trained, or vpw's machine trained. They all want to be the top dog- so all of them are UNWORTHY to be ministers. All of them want to be SERVED and not to SERVE. -
*slaps forehead* My brain kicked up the answer. This is "GLADIATOR." Haven't seen it, but the "are you not entertained" thing should have given me the answer.

I OBVIOUSLY have been running around a BIT too fast lately. George has no memory of this because it wasn't George this happened to- it was Mark Sanguinetti this happened to! I wonder how he's doing.

A number of titles either refer to part of the Batman mythos, or are significant references to the setting. "Last Laugh" is a Joker reference, "MLM" is a Harley reference, "Lovecraft" refers to the name of Arkham Asylum being from Lovecraft's work, "One Bad Day" is another Joker reference, as is "Ace Chemicals." "Pena Dura" is a Bane reference. "Azrael" is a recurring Bat family character. "The Narrows" is a place in Gotham. "Follow the White Rabbit" was a Mad Hatter and Alice episode, "the Mask" was a Black Mask episode. "A Legion of Horribles" referred to Indian HIll, and "Hog Day Afternoon" featured Professor Pyg, "The Balloonman" was an early episode. My favorite title for any episode was "One of My 3 Soups." Velaska, having escaped Haly's Circus as well as the law, went after his family. His uncle was expecting him. When Velaska arrived at his diner, the uncle had 3 bowls of soup out, and Velaska was SURE he was surprising his uncle. The uncle asked him to sit and talk before Velaska killed him. Then he explained about the 3 soups at the booth in which they sat. The uncle still loved gazpacho, so the soup that was "too cold" was for him. The soup that was "just right" was for their old partner in the circus, the strongman-who pinned Velaska into the booth. When I described this scene to Mrs Wolf, she jumped in with the rest of the explanation. "And the boiling-hot soup was for Velaska?" She got the hang of the setting long ago. Actually, that would have been it for Velaska- if Bruce hadn't arrived and stopped them from killing him (resulting, eventually, in a LARGE body count for Velaska later in the series.)
