So, CES/STFI quietly pulled the plug on "personal prophecy." Not a word of explanation nor apology for their followers, laity, etc. Silence to us and everyone else on the subject. We know they still have people who read here, and did so all through the history of CES/STFI (and this thread.) No attempts to answer it from them, in any form, to anyone.

What is TWI's definition of an unbeliever?

I know, if I had to choose one or the other to "follow", I'd choose MS over JAL. He has a lower track record of major boondoggles, and a LOT more humility. He also gets involved in people's lives and actually cares about them, and not just what they can do for him. A few minutes in a room with one and the other make it obvious they view people completely differently- you can feel the difference and see it for yourself.

I wasn't going to get into specifics about what that PP nonsense COST him personally. It's fair game to note that- if not FOR that cost- he would STILL be pushing that doctrine, no matter how much it hurt OTHER people- none of whom got an apology. We had threads here where we showed how the whole PP thing didn't match the Bible, and we had a thread where we outlined exactly how it worked (there's nothing supernatural about it.) JAL couldn't see any of that from the beginning, That doesn't bode well for his skill as a Christian or Biblical leader. (I'm not trying to lead something, and I saw it immediately and with little effort.) At the same time, he was still trying to get us to follow where he led. He neither led wisely nor saw that he was NOT leading wisely. (I can tell when I'm out of my depth or wrestling outside my weight-class.) A surfeit of pride- or a dearth of aptitude and skill- could explain that, but it certainly doesn't EXCUSE that. That doesn't even get into the Momentus debacle that he's STILL pushing- and has the brains to do silently. This speaks well for his brains- while speaking POORLY for his INTEGRITY. He learned from vpw to keep inconvenient truths from the public eye, but not to stop doing the wrong thing- just how to keep from getting caught. Furthermore, his "internet ministry" works well for him on paper. He has low overhead, can solicit funds, and doesn't have to actually get involved with real people other than by serving up empty platitudes- like in twi. The man has made a few cosmetic changes, but is mostly the same alleged "leader" he was in twi, with little actual GROWTH since then. I've gotten decades more wisdom, why hasn't he?

I remember Cindy Crawford did some Pepsi commercials, but I don't remember any wolf-whistles or catcalls, so it's probably not her. It is probably someone younger, who did a more recent commercial. I was going to guess "Hostel", but the hostel itself isn't an "antagonist." So, I've got nothing yet. (I can eliminate a lot of movies where the title doesn't reference an antagonist, but that will be more useful later, I think.)

Ok, I think Dolly Parton was in 9 to 5 Dabney Coleman War Games

(There were several live CM/Shazams. This is a Golden Age character. There was the movie serial in 1941 with Tom Tyler, the Shazam/Isis show, with Jackson Bostwick and John Davey. Garrett Craig played him in "Legends of the Superheroes", the 2-part parody TV specials. After that, he was all animated until the new movie and Zachary Levi. That's 5 live actors for the Big Red Cheese.)

In something completely unrelated to here, someone mentioned Olivier to me the other day. Otherwise, I'd probably still be wondering. The movie sounds better than I'd expected.

I can't speak about Billy Graham with any real knowledge. About JAL, I know he never apologized for his "personal prophecy" debacle- he just quietly dropped it some time after it blew up in his face and messed up HIS OWN life. Not one apology for anyone else harmed by it. As for Momentus, he stopped talking about it publickly but continued to try to get more recruits for it quietly. He's also made some general insults to the posters here and never apologized for that. Finally, he claimed he was available provided people contacted him entirely on his terms- privately and using their legal names- but we had posters who did that and never got a response from him. If that was all, it would be enough to keep me from trying to build him a statue or anything. One last thing he did was this thing where he made comments to people, then had them posted here without him posting them, which allowed him to disavow responsibility while advertising his paid classes and things to the posters and readers here (other messageboards, also, for that matter.)

How about "Lawrence of Arabia", then?

In case the answer got lost, "Captain Marvel" and "Shazam" were the 2 correct answers, so it's George's turn.
-
Billy Batson is an incorrect answer, as I'm not sure ANY of them played or voiced Billy Batson. However, I'll accept the other, as it was correct. All these actors played Captain Marvel- aka "Shazam" (the superhero Billy changed into). By now, asking who played "Shazam" can get tricky, since the old wizard Shazam was "Shazam", and Freddy Freeman (CM3, aka Captain Marvel Jr) passed the Trials of Shazam and became "Shazam", and most non-readers think of Captain Marvel as "Shazam." We've had at least one person play the old wizard as Shazam, but nobody played Freddy Freeman as him, AFAIK. For those who don't know, the superhero "Captain Marvel" said the name of the old wizard- SHAZAM!- and gained the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage [invulnerability] of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury (that's what we were told, and what he was told.) Fawcett Comics outsold DC's Superman comics. That's probably due to the audience. Captain Marvel in his civvies was a small boy. Superman in his civvies was an adult man. The audience was small boys. They were more interested in Captain Marvel. DC responded by burying Fawcett in frivilous lawsuits until they went out of business. After the copyright ran out on "Captain Marvel", Marvel Comics made a Captain Marvel (Kree Captain Mar- Vell, aka Captain Marvel), and trademarked it. When DC later bought up the Fawcett characters they ran out of business, they wanted to print new "Captain Marvel" comics but couldn't even use the name "Captain Marvel" prominently on the cover UNDER the main title. So, it became "With One Magic Word- SHAZAM!" Those not paying attention to the comic nor the TV show thought he was called "Shazam". (People are unobservant.) Marvel is going out of their way to retain the copyright. When Mar-Vell died, he was replaced with Monica Rambeau, "Captain Marvel", an Avenger. Then there was "Legacy", Genis-Vell, later called "Captain Marvel", then Phyla-Vell, and now the 70s Ms Marvel is known as Captain Marvel. Not a bad choice, but she's had SO many codenames since she was introduced (Ms Marvel, Binary, Warbird, Captain Marvel.) So, DC seems to have given up, and plans to call their hero "Shazam".

Ok, next song. "Maybe you'll wanna give me kisses sweet But only for one night and no repeat And maybe you'll go away and never call And a taste of honey's worse than none at all."

The name of the movie was "Holmes and Watson", and it's a failed attempt at a comedy version of Sherlock Holmes.

"Looks" is the operative term. JAL is not ADVERTISING the points where he left twi because his audience is extwi. So, no blatant stuff about Momentus or PP or anything else he got into no matter how hard he's pushing it now. Perhaps he learned from vpw that you can pretend you don't do something at all if you never do it while the cameras are rolling.

We'll move on in another day or so. I can't even name 1 actor from that movie- well, NOW I can name exactly 1 since George said Winkler was in it.

What is TWI's definition of an unbeliever?
WordWolf replied to a question in Ask the Greasespot Cafe
Outside of pfal, vpw claimed that it was impossible to be an "unbeliever"- and demonstrated it by changing the definition of "unbeliever." Whereas in other places, an "unbeliever" was one who did not believe Christian (or, more to the point, twi) doctrine, he made a different claim then. He said that an "unbeliever" was supposedly someone who didn't "believe" , and that was impossible because they believed that they didn't believe, which meant that they believed. To any person trying to make sense of that, he was saying that it was impossible to be an "unbeliever" because to think is to believe SOMETHING- that water is wet, that things fall towards the Earth, and so on. To any Bible reader (or anyone trying to be reasonable about it), an "unbeliever" is someone who does not believe what the Bible says, or what Christian doctrine says, or something along those lines. Interestingly enough, that contradicted what he plagiarized in pfal (more evidence he often didn't understand what he ripped off.) There, he said there were 2 types of unbelief- with 2 different Greek words- apistia and apeithia (from a-pistis and a-pathos.) He said that "apistia" referred to someone who hadn't heard and therefore didn't believe, and "apeithia" referred to those who knew enough to believe, but chose not to (as in, they had apathy towards it-my words, not his.) As time went on, attitudes towards "unbelievers" got colder and nastier. It's ok to lie to unbelievers and so on, provided leadership told you to lie. "God will cover", and obeying leadership was of paramount importance. If twi considers you an unbeliever, don't expect the truth from them. What kind of "Christian" organization recommends lying to non-members? -
The path of JAL through those controversies- and others- can be traced through entire discussions we've had here, and they're NOT hard to find. It's peculiar to know to come here to discuss JAL but not know we've discussed any of those before.

I can't choose his life for him, but I wish he'd consider retirement. I'm sure he's completely sincere about his desire to help people, but his track record shows a less-than-stellar set of results. As someone said once of a fictional character, whenever he wants to help someone, he ends up hurting them, like a vicious Saint Bernard. Between the "personal prophecy" debacle and continuing to shill "Momentus" under-the-table while saying openly he wasn't, I think that's enough of a BAD track record to reconsider his choices. Instead, he's "doubled-down" each time.
