Splinter work IS the wierwille legacy
WordWolf replied to skyrider's topic in Out of the Way: The Offshoots
dmiller posted here about Leonard's account. According to Leonard, vpw came up to take BGL's class one time. Then vpw requested permission to teach BGL's class locally on a one-time basis. Leonard consented. He was told the class went off and was sent a photo of the graduates. That's the last he was told. What Leonard found out LATER was that vpw left out that the class was Leonard's. He taught it entirely as his own class. That was why the original classes had no syllabus. vpw would have had to refrain from the printed syllabus of "Gifts of the Holy Spirit" and get around to retyping it as the syllabus of "Receiving the Holy Spirit Today." vpw continued to teach that class. Later, vpw added Stiles' book "Gifts of the Spirit" to Sessions 9-12, retyped Stiles' textbook as the White Book, and added the contents of Bullinger's book on the holy spirit (to the White Book and 9-12) and "How to Enjoy the Bible" (which became Sessions 5-8). As he added material, he also split off the Intermediate Class from the other material (first as the "TIP" class for "Tongues Interpretation and Prophecy", then stretched out as the full Intermediate class. The classes were amalgams of the material of others, rearranged and occasionally reworded so they sounded less like the authors. -
At least 2 characters that have appeared in this series have had some name shuffles. Jeff Hodgkins became Jeff Difford. Roy Farrow became Wayne Farrow. We were also previously told someone lived in a trailer, but they rather obviously live in a house. Elon Musk appeared as himself.

Jerry Nelson Mrs Wolf later said that the point where the stage lights went dark should have coincided with Wayne and Wanda taking the stage. She was right, but very few people would have gotten the joke, although I would have fallen out of my chair. It should surprise no one that this movie was a musical. It also references the first movie (and ignores all the others, obviously.) This movie represented the international standardizing of the names of these characters. Now, they all have their original English names, so Rene, for example, isn't Rene anymore. I realized that when I saw the promotional posters go up, with the names I recognized. Correction: In Spain, he was still "Gustavo." The songs in this movie's soundtrack include "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard," "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Gary Numan's "Cars", AC/DC's "Back in Black", "Bad to the Bone", "(I'v e Had the) Time of My Life", and Starship's "We Built This City". The role of Tex Richman was originally written for Alan Rickman. The moment in a Google office was filmed in an actual Google office in Zurich, at least as of the filming. The auto being worked on in the children's classroom was a British "Morris Minor." I'll have to play the DVD again, since I've wondered what they look like. (Black 47 mentioned that model in their breakout song "Funky Ceily" and I've never known what they looked like.) Courtney Love was outraged about the way "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was sung and played. Dave Grohl was happy with it (and I was quite entertained.) Grohl probably heard about it before she did, since he was actually IN the movie. I have to admit, I would never have guessed this song would have ended up in this movie, not if given 100 guesses to name a song for the soundtrack. Towards the end, there was a musical number featuring a banjo. A lot of the audience started crying somewhere in the course of the song. Frank Oz refused to do this movie, and I think that was a shame. "Mahna, mahna."

I don't recommend many movies. Once again, I recommend this movie.

I'll offer a few of my own thoughts, and they can be taken or left, of course. I find that I understand God more as I spend more time as a parent. Keep an eye out, educate, instruct, warn- then watch as you're ignored and someone pays the consequences of ignoring. If there is a God, and if there is a Transcendent God, then His perspective is more long-term than my here-and-now perspective. Any veteran chess player can understand that thinking long-term is a key to winning consistently at chess. A chess master can think dozens of moves in advance. A Transcendent God could think millions of moves in advance, and incorporate "insignificant" events into later events a century later, a millenium later. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, and was thrown into jail as a slave for a crime he never committed, but for which he was wrongfully accused. This covered years of his life. Joseph later saw it and said that they meant it to him for evil, but God meant it for good, to save many people. (Joseph's time in prison led to him becoming Pharaohs Chief Executive Officer, which led to him saving much of Egypt and Israel, as well as others.) He never claimed God put him in prison or slavery, but he thought God meant all of that for good. I think he was correct in thinking that. So, even years in a life with no seeming guidance or blessings may be part of a bigger picture, and leading up to something major.

The fighting is limited to what they can do with the actress. Street brawling is the default for the untrained, unskilled fighter. Preparing for a role like this with A martial art would have been smart. Too much work for the actress? Do I need to rush to catch up with BL or Supergirl because they're doing Crisis teasers already? If not, let me know when they do.
-
We already had Supergirl doing that. Apparently, the new show has less story and more lecturing, and even the target audiences had enough. Or maybe it's because they got the wrong actress. She didn't look anything like Kate Kane. She's not known for being a good actress. She's not known for being a good martial artist/acrobat/whatever. If they wanted an actress to fill a quota, they should have gotten a COMPETENT actress who did so, and not just the first one they found. (Seriously, they could have found others without too much work.) Or maybe the writing just isn't that good. Or maybe the audiences are tired of all the DARK shows that are being offered, and want something more cheerful. Or maybe it's a mix of all of the above. Seriously, if you're going to pander to a group, you can do that. However, it's on you if the resulting show ONLY appeals to them, and if that group doesn't have enough people to support the show. There's legitimate things to do to improve the show or increase who they pander to. I imagine they just focused on the pandering and putting episodes out, and supposing people would automatically tune in based solely on that. No surprise an uproar like that isn't driving more people to the show- people aren't attracted to a show by being insulted or ordered to watch it.

"The Untouchables"? I thought I replied to this last night, but obviously I forgot to.

Its ratings are poor, or are you saying the show stinks? (Or the ratings are poor because the show stinks?)

Finished the first Arrow episode. I must say I did NOT see that ending coming. I was calling for red skies crossovers around the 6th or 7th episode, in time for the mid-season, and Legends of Tomorrow to start its late season. Then again, it makes perfect sense. I wonder if Psycho Pirate is still in Arkham Asylum. Mrs Wolf speculated that Ollie's putting together another team, one hop at a time, and hopes we get another Snart out of it.
-
The idea behind the comic was a "deconstruction" of the superhero. They wanted superheroes who were anything BUT "heroic." I gave that a miss from the beginning. I wasn't able to stay awake for the movie, either. You probably know that DC has the modern rights to use the old Charlton heroes, and that Moore was planning on using those until they realized he was going to destroy them all, so he made expies of all of them. Instead of Captain Atom, we had Dr Manhattan. We had Rorschach in for The Question, Nite Owl in for the Blue Beetle, Silk Spectre replaced Nightshade, Ozymandias was in for Peter Cannon/Thunderbolt, and The Comedian replaced The Peacemaker.

Having just sat down to watch the previous season finale, I'm about 25% that will happen, and about 75% that everyone except Felicity is told Ollie took one for the team, and they go into retirement like Earth-2's Superman and Lois Lane at the end of CoIE in the comics. (The nice ending that "Infinite Crisis" later tried to retcon into something bad.)

I know Ben Gazzara's name like I know FMA's name. A role Robert De Niro played that the other's played? Jake La Motta can't have had so many movies about him. How about Frankenstein's Monster?

Steiger was the cop in the movie "In The Heat of the Night." IIRC, he was the Patton-like general in "Mars Attacks!". I knew Robards played Rotzinger. (His best line wasn't even a line- it was the flat look. Young Cop: "What's so memorable about a clown stealing a million dollars?" Rotzinger: *flat look* Young Cop: "Jesus, we gotta catch this guy!")

Ok, I need to sit down and watch "Arrow" soon, and get the Mrs so we can watch "Flash" together. Gotcha.
