  1. "Carefui, careful. Every one of them has a mother." "It's a low neighborhood, full of rumpots. They're used to curious sights, which they attribute to alcoholic delusions. " "Excuse me, I'll slip into something more comfortable while your cocoa is warming. " " This curtain which separates our countries is so foolish. If we could just contrive some way of getting more deeply involved with each other. " "Oh, da. Da, we must search for such a method."
  2. You said, more than once, that it was only from the 1980s onward that people believed their pets would live on in the afterlife. No, even vpw mentioned it in the filmed/taped pfal class. He complained about "immortal soul" and so on, and said that's why some religions teach that animals live on forever, and that's why they have a Dog Heaven and a Cat Heaven, and so on. He was teaching at at least in the 60s in response to what some people believed, which means some people were teaching otherwise, somewhere, at the time.
  3. Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) sang Willy De Ville's "Story Book Love" for the soundtrack. William Golding's parents were Max and Valerie. Cary Elwes didn't do the acrobatic flip, of course. He hurt his foot when he finally agreed to try out Andre's 4-wheeler and wiped out. Mandy Patinkin finally hurt a rib when working with Billy Crystal. The story is a fairy tale being told to a kid. It's not meant to be historically accurate, and is deliberately anachronistic (the references to Australia, etc.) And we're following the telling of the story and how the grandson is imagining it, so there can be inaccuracies because that's how it's imagined. I really hope they don't try to film a remake of this movie. It would be like trying to catch lightning in a bottle. In the scene where they emptied the Thieves' Forest, one man tried, unsuccessfully, to get Inigo Montoya to leave. "Ho, there!" Inigo's response slipped the swear in. Westley was stunned by Count Rugen. Elwes told Guest to hit him for real- with predictable results. Andre the Giant really liked filming this movie. The thing he liked least was being stared at wherever he went, and on this set, he was just one of the guys- which he really appreciated.
  4. Rob Reiner was the Director, but William Golding's exact role is hard to quantify. He wrote the original book, and the screenplay, and had a lot of input on-set while it was filming. So, I think of him also as the Director. I kept meaning to check if I needed to rephrase that. But, yes, this was THE PRINCESS BRIDE.
  5. Next movie. "Carefui, careful. Every one of them has a mother." "It's a low neighborhood, full of rumpots. They're used to curious sights, which they attribute to alcoholic delusions. "
  6. This is the Grateful Dead's "Touch of Grey". their first commercial hit off of "In The Dark." "Oh, well, a touch of grey kind of suits you anyway. That was all I have to say, but, it's all right. I will get by." The music video (they did a music video) was neat- they were playing in a concert, and the band was swapped out for skeletons dressed as the band, playing the instruments. They loved the video, and didn't mind that it was possible to see the rigging to animate the skeletons. This album introduced a different generation to the Grateful Dead, and was a commercial success. (It was followed by an album that wasn't quite as successful, but had at least two hits- "Foolish Heart" and "Shakedown Street." )
  7. -Mark Knopfler was asked to do a song for this movie's score. He agreed, and gave a condition- a hat that the director used in a previous movie had to be included. It was included, and Knopfler later admitted he was joking about the hat when he asked for its inclusion. -Two of the supporting characters are a couple, and they are named after the director's parents (his mother's name is Valerie, his father was Max.) -Two actors did all their own stunts- except for a single move one double had to perform. The other actor took no injuries while filming- until he hurt his ribs trying not to laugh at another actor on the set. The first actor injured and almost broke his foot, but not due to any filmed or scripted scenes. -This story was not historically-consistent, but of course nobody said it needed to be. I'd actually use almost the same reasoning as to why there were a few technical errors in filming, and why they weren't actually errors in filming. -Rumors of a remake of this movie have triggered fan backlashes, and rightfully so. -A swear is slipped passed the censors. A Spanish-speaking character says something odd in English, with a Spanish accent. It was pronounced identically to a Spanish swear-word. -An actor should never tell another actor to hit him for real. It never ends well. In this movie, they lost almost a day's shooting when one actor gave another a concussion. -One actor liked how naturally he fit into the filming. Andre Rene Roussimoff was just another actor on set.
  8. You've left me in the dark, but I will get by.

  10. "I see Bruce Lee" was, IIRC, the last thing that guy said on the radio before he was grabbed. When the cavalry came to the rescue, they shined flood lights like the police. "Yo, tell them we're Batman!"
  11. The Avengers Ralph Fiennes Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (either part)
  12. As if I'm a movie maven, or a Warren Beatty fan. Sometimes it can take quite a while to remember "BONNIE AND CLYDE" or any other movie. As to which movie this is, let's see.....
  13. Ok, that clinches it, since I can hear Gary Busey saying that last one. The one who said "Fool!" was Mister T, and this movie was "D C CAB".
  14. Oh, got one! He played the title character in The Wolf Man Anthony Hopkins The Mask of Zorro
  15. Since "the Producers" is from 1967, this is from 1965-1967 sometime. The most obvious reason to exclude Shirley MacLaine when changing the main actor, as I see it, was if the main role and her role were supposed to be romantic, and the actor (producer) was related to her by blood or marriage. Since she's Warren Beatty's sister, I'm thinking it was a Warren Beatty film. One of the principal cast wore a beret. That's what I have so far- does that give anyone the movie's name? If so, go ahead.
  16. Ok, the last quote didn't give it away, but it was obviously something modern and city-fied, for some value of city. So, this probably isn't Charon or a ferryman working for an obulus or something. So, a modern fare. So, if I think of a modern fare- not a ticket, not a reservation- that limits the possibilities. So, maybe this quote here isn't said with a dry British snark like I was hearing, but something US. So, maybe I'll say Batman, or do I see Bruce Lee?
  17. Acts 4: 33-35, KJV [/u]33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. It has nothing to do with what he said. It's even clearer with the preceding verses. 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. 32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. Once again, he tortured Scripture and claimed it had to do with something it had nothing to do with.
  18. Yeah, but those haven't gotten a lot of airplay in my generation. His last hit was "King of the New York Streets," so I know that one, along with "the Wanderer." I'd recognize "Runaround Sue" or "Teenager in Love" but only when hearing the name in the lyrics.
  19. Raf: "Nobody dies when they quit believing, they die when they quit BREATHING."
  20. I think I know exactly 2 Dion songs, and I've posted each at different times. This one was neither.
  21. I don't recall seeing any movie like that, or featuring dialogue with Charon, the Ferryman, etc. That having been said, I can't shake the feeling I should know this one anyway.
  22. After twi, I have no idea. In twi, he wrote 3 books- "Will the Real You Please Stand Up?" "Will the Real You Please Remain Standing?" "Living in the Eye of the Storm."
  23. Ok, I'm in the right neck of the woods. "Petticoat Junction?"
