The Official, the Ultimate, the Amazing PFAL Thread
GarthP2000 replied to Modaustin's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
So VP had a 'Thus saith the Lord' attitude back in the 70's. <_< So what? Jerry Falwell has that same attitude. So does Pat Robertson and Jimmy Swaggert. ... So did David Koresh. So how does that attitude make his PFAL any more Gawd breathed than not? -
... and it probably didn't happen.

Ya know, put a cowboy hat on ol' Ken, and he could be mistaken for a Blowback Mountain action figure. Ride 'em cowboy!

How about those of us who have TVs that work with cable/satellite dishes?

Ya know, after all of Smikeol's posts exhalting The Teacher and blowing off and regarding as unfit to 'teach the Word' any and all who 'defy Him', its only gonna be a matter of time before he goes apes**t whenever someone comes up with mocking cartoons depicting VPW. Perhaps one depicting VPW w/ the golden idol of PFAL on top of his head? ..... Hhmmm, that gives me an idea. ........ ((wicked grin))

That's calling it right, Al! Particularly since sexual perverts (towards children anyway) come in both the homo- and heterosexual variety. ... You DO know that, doncha?

:( :( :( The Seattle Seahawk have lost. And due a lot to one f**kup after another. They started out great. But after they got their field goal, it was largely downhill from there. Gad! This is too eerily similar to when Atlanta was at the Superbowl back in 1999, and lost it by falling too far behind. AARRRGGGHHHH!!!

Great way for the bus driver to get himself shot by a really angry parent. Hey, that idea isn't so far fetched these days!

With the exception of areas like the Memorial section, I really haven't come across any hard and fast rules (here anyway) that specifically limited comments to keep exclusively to either announcements or asking for folks opinion re: these kinds of posts.

Assume for a moment there is no God...
GarthP2000 replied to JumpinJive's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
And yet, how much of religion is based on that very same kind of suppositionalism? Ie., the idea is considered, presupposed to be the truth, and all arguments, facts, evidence, conclusions, etc. are to line up with that presupposition, regardless of any kind of countering argument and valid facts that might say otherwise. And of course, you throw in a good dose of a guilt trip in viewing the bringing up of countering arguments and facts as a kind of sinful arrogance. Reprobates even, as a few here would put it. <_< ... Why, I believe that pretty much sums up faith now, doesn't it? And, as Oakspear points out, it is a strawman argument, particularly when a good number of atheists/agnostics/unbelievers were once believers themselves, and sooner or later the bull&$*# factor just becomes too much for them to honestly ignore and 'just have faith in'. Sounds all to familiar to what happened to us when we decided to adios TWI. -

Oakspear, See Cynic's very-wordy thesis and 'explanation' (read ((cough))scam) as to why there is no contradiction as such. Yah! And I have some ocean front property in New Knoxville I can sell ya too! -
Uhhhh uhh, a circle, a square, and ... and ... uhh, ..... a triangle! Yeah! That's what it is!! ... Did I pass the psych test, doc? Huh? Did I??

Sudo, I've been re-evaluating my 'spiritual' views in recent years. As per whether or not there is a 'superior being' or 'God', as far as I'm concerned, the jury is still out. But the 'God' that I have discarded is the fundamentalist variety. I guess I have finally had enough of the 'Appeal to Authority', "Who are you to question why, yours is but to do/obey/believe or die (in hell)" mentality. TWI was but part of all that. Some of the more mainstream and staunchly orthodox beliefs have added to that pile in many ways, as far as I'm concerned. As per the more liberal beliefs, those I can more or less relate to, as far as their good works and tolerance goes. So I guess I fit in with the agnostic and unbeliever crowd, but I wouldn't call myself a solid atheist (yet anyway), but basically, that doesn't make that much difference to me.

Coming from your friendly neighborhood, polemic, and downright pain-in-the-a** unbeliever , I say that folks like Dawkins, while they may bring up valid points about the effects of religion on society, particulerly the fundy variety, ... some of his views leans too close to the 'just exterminate religion en masse' to suit me. (and no, believe it or not, I do NOT call for the extermination of religion). I've actually talked to a FEW atheists, strong ones at that, who actually believe that, due to views like Dawkins, believe that religion is too dangerous/a form of mental illness to be allowed for people to have in their lives, and believe that religion must be eliminated one way or another. (Remember folks, I said FEW, as opposed to ALL atheists, and can easily back up that statistic should it be challenged) I proceeded to tell them, that aside from being the morally/ethically/LEGALLY wrong thing to do, any and ALL attempts to elliminate religion as such WILL BE doomed to utter failure, and the **fierce** resistance to such will make any and all wars look like a Sunday picnic. Ie., the Ultimate 'Vietnam War' experience for the unbelieving side. Perhaps the fundamentalist religious side would do well to take that same precaution as regards to the desire to eliminate atheism/heresy/other forms of unbelief as well. Because while we might not have the numbers/money/resources/unity/etc. as the theistic side, we do have the WILL to put up the selfsame fierce resistance.
