    sociopath

Uhhh Dot, Take a look over not only the statements in the quotes, but over all the sources of said quotes, ... and tell me this: Where is the evidence/independent studies that proves, ... _proves_ ... that they cannot (as opposed to does not) ... care? And for those who talk about 'missing portions of the brain', well, keep in mind that the concept of realizing that you live in a world with other people, and that its important for you to respect their rights, ... ie., realizing right from wrong, ... is a mental concept that can, and is, _learned_. Just like any other mental concept. Maybe a person isn't as emotional as others in realizing this. For different people experience different emotions in a different manner. ... That doesn't stop them from having the capability from caring about, and respecting, the rights of other people. Hell, the fact that the sociopaths can be made (with the threat of force, for example) to respect other people and their rights automatically blows away the lie that they just cannot care, and act accordingly. I can see Rhino's point about people burying their ability to care so deep that it becomes, in effect, an inability. But even then, they are still responsible for burying it to begin with. ... Ie., which indicates an inborn ability to (not) care.

    sociopath

Jim, The person you're describing isn't a sociopath, since (apparently) he still cares. Ie., he is exhibiting a sense of conscience, and realizes that there are other people in society. Sociopaths are capable of also showing a conscience, caring for people, realizing that there are other people in the world, but don't apply that capability. ... Ie., it isn't where they can't care. They just do not care. ... A level of apathy that grows and evolves over the years.
  5. Oldies, remember all the times that you would deny any and all accusations that you would do whatever it took to whitewash VPW's reputation due to your near blind loyalty to him? As clearly illustrated by your latest post, the fact that you don't regard VPW as a 'monster' because of his sexual and psychological abuse of all those women (where such activities would rightfully cause any reasonable and moral person to condemn anybody who does such activities as a 'monster'), ... just goes to undermine any of your denials. Yet you still endeavor to whitewash and defend someone who's reputation has long since died, ... almost as long ago as his physical death. He ain't worth the waste of time and effort.

    sociopath

I know I've posted this on the other thread that Dot is referring to, but I think it applies here as well. Can't? ... Or won't? Maybe one thing we need to keep in mind is that sociopaths don't care about anybody else but themselves. ... Don't care. That is a (passive) act of will. They could care, ... but they don't. See, many of them (if not all of them) realize about the basic premise of "You live in a world with other people", but they just won't honor it. ... Because they just don't care. That is, until they have a loaded gun stuck into their face, and the angry gun wielder is 1 microsecond shy from pulling the trigger, that is. <_< ... THEN they are fully cognizent that they live in a world with other people. Them and child molesters, I just don't go with this crap of 'they have an illness!'. ... Yeah? Well, I got just the 'pill' to cure it. It's called a .44 caliber bullet. ------ One thing that many people forget, is that all the decisions we make along the way in the Path called Life make up who/what we are. This includes in the process of developing a conscience. Morals/ethics are a learned behavior, not something that is 'born within'. (If that isn't true, then why even bother to raise your children? ) Interesting that those 'authorities' that claim that sociopaths cannot learn better offer no medical/physiological evidence to support their hypothesis. ... None. ... Ziltch. Well then, since we are to Question Authority, then let's question the 'authorities' of those who say that sociopaths just cannot be made to change. ... Ie., where is their evidence?
  7. Sure thing. ... Just make sure that your sign off avatar doesn't join us. ... She seems fixated on her, ... uh ... nose.

I find it rather ironic that Nixon said he would "rather be a one term president, and do that which I know is right, than to serve two terms, and make the U.S. a 2nd rate power by losing the first war in its proud 190 year history". So he went on to serve two terms, not do that which was right, lose the Vietnam War, and make the U.S. a 2nd rate power in the political sense, ... by being forced to resign in disgrace. <_< What a turd!

    60's Sites

Hehehehehe ((shaking my head) So it was in the 60s that people knew about the work ethic, being honest with each other, and so forth and so on, ehhh? I know of not a few Greatest Generation members who would take issue with the decade that you all attribute that to. As they would attribute _their_ generation as having all those values, and that it started going downhill during the ... you guessed it ... the 60s. Each generation views theirs through the rose colored glasses it seems. Who was that Roman senator who bemoaned how the youth of his day were so disrespectful of their elders? ... Apparently generational conflicts is nothing new. Anywho, back to rock n' rolling with the Golden Oldies! --

    It's Earth Day

The Commies are behind this, I tell ya!! ... It's a Commie corn-spiracy to take over the world! Planting trees = taking over the world. A-yup! It all adds up.
  12. Here is another, very good source to help determine the professional reputation of a company: Better Business Bureau Most companies I come across, I have the BBB site check them out. You can type in the company's name or website, and BBB brings up detailed, relevant information about the firm, including disputes and how well the company settles them. Hope this helps.
  13. One of the unmistakeably shocking statements uttered by Pastor Becky when interviewed in that documentary: ... Errmm, ... but aren't the lil Islamic children in Pakistan, Isreal, and Palestine told that their dedication could mean blowing themselves--and a lot of innocent people--up for Allah?! ... So that's how dedicated she wants these little kids to be? :o
  14. I agree, Polar bear. I saw the flick myself, and Wow! :o And the fact that they are children and going through that crap. ... If I weren't so skeptical of the 'mind control' theory itself, I'd have to say that a kind of 'mind control' was being applied here, what with watching the fear-and-guilt ridden expressions that I kept seeing on all those kids faces, and there emotions being taken on a roller coaster ride like that. Hell, if what folks say about 'mind control' in how its supposedly rampant in TWI and in other groups, then it sure as hell is being applied here, particularly when its kids that are the targets for such psychological abuse.
  15. How about questions like: What if you don't believe in a certain part of their doctrine? What/how do they treat you then? Are you treated as a pariah, or as unworthy, or do they tell you that you're going to hell, and/or are told that you aren't welcome back into their church? ... Shouldn't that also be considered a form of abuse? Or how about if those in the church you're going to find out that you no longer believe in their god, or any god for that matter, anymore? Do they (again) tell you that you aren't welcome back into their church and/or that because of your abandonment of God, you are no longer a moral person? ... Shouldn't that be also considered a form of abuse? Or how about if you don't believe in a particular political point-of-view that is held paramount by the group? Do they treat you like you're 'less than patriotic' or 'less American' or even 'treasonous' because of this? ... Shouldn't that be also considered a form of abuse? You are right, in that doctrine shouldn't be considered part of determining what a cult is, or what constitutes abusive behavior. What should be considered is how people treat you in relation to your acceptance, or non-acceptance, of said doctrine.
  16. Hear, hear! I would defintely go for such a section. :)
  17. You ever think about taking the 'laundry list' of what constitutes a cult, and testing it against more mainstream groups/churches/organizations? You know, the kind of entities that most people wouldn't even think of considering of being cults? How about a denomination that teaches as part of its theology that you must accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, or else you'll "burn in hell", or otherwise wind up totally cast out from God? How about a denomination that teaches as part of its theology that you must accept the Trinity in order to be a Christian, and that if you don't, you are suspected of being part of some 'cult'. (Believe it or not, there are many people who still have this mindset, and was a mindset that was partly influential in determining TWI, as well as other groups, to be cults.) How about a religion(s) who believe, and teach, that atheists aren't moral at all, can't be loyal to their country, are dangerous to society, are looking to brainwash little children, and the like crap ... and for no better reason than that they are atheists? Or how about a political party which treats its political philosophy as tho' it's based totally upon God's Laws and/or the Bible, and those that clearly and openly challenge any of it is suspect of being 'unAmerican', 'disloyal', 'haters of freedom', etc., etc.? Or a political party which treats its political philosophy as tho' it's truly "for the people, social justice, for the environment, yadayada", and anyone who challenges them is 'oppressive', 'racist', 'sexist', 'for Dubya's War', etc., etc.? ... Ooohh, here's a goody. How about an anti-cult group/organization who thinks that they have _the final word_ on what constitutes a 'cult', 'mind control', etc., and anyone who openly challenges them are automatically considered to be nothing more than a 'cult apologist', 'in denial about being in a mind control cult', yadayadayada? And before anybody comes back with a "but in these examples, nobody is trying to force you to accept their respective views like TWI or other cults do", allow me to remind you that the psychological practices/tools/tricks/techniques of browbeating, manipulation, intimidation, threats (both covert and overt), and even more, ... have been, and are being used, in a variety of different ways, in the examples I have given above, as it has been used in TWI, the Moonies, Scientology, and other groups that are 'officially' listed as 'cults'. ... Yes Virginia, they have. Besides, as far as the 'official' anti-cult organizations who determine what is and what is not a 'cult', ... how objective and honest are they behaving in their determinations, hmmmm? Has anyone even bothered to ask themselves or these organizations that question? Where is their outside 'peer review' in keeping their determinations above board? ... Or is it a case where you all accept their word for it simply because they say so? Or because they have gotten a lot of things right about TWI? ... Shouldn't we be as scrutinizing about them as we now are re: TWI? Who is watching the watchers, as it were?
  18. Rhino, I can see what he means by the gas evaporating inside the tank, and keeping it full so less evaporates. Altho' the gas that evaporates is still inside the tank, you can't use it as the evaporation doesn't make it thru the fuel line to burn. And, unlike water, gasoline does not recondense back into liquid. At least not nearly as readily or as much as water. A similar principle applies to when you're pumping gas. Unless you're not sticking the hose inside the tank entrance, there is nowhere but back thru the vapor return, where it does go back into the stations storage tanks. By the way, I used to work at a few gas stations/convenience stores about 20 or so years ago, so I found out a few facts about gas pumping and such, and this article makes sense. (Thanks Roy! ) Also, while the ground does not vary in temperature as much as the air above it, it does vary. How much it helps tho' is open for debate. Another tidbit. Since a full tank contains more weight in fuel, I think that it would make sense that it would exert additional pressure on gas going towards the fuel pump, thus giving you additional mileage. Correct me if I'm wrong on that, tho'.

    Plagarism !?

Well actually, I found Bullinger's Bible to be a very valuable resource (back when I believed in PFAL) in my bible studies. What with using those little circles next to the words in the verses, going to the margin part of the page and where the verse is referenced by the circle, and then looking up the appropriate appendix that explained that word; very instructive and usefull. Maybe Bullinger was right doctrinally, maybe he wasn't, ... but then again, nowadays I don't particularly care about those things.
  20. I like the Butz Beer commercial myself.
  21. There is HTML code you can include in your page that loads a sound file to play in the background. Here is the link to an article that has more specific info on how to do it. A caution tho'. Please, *please*, have an option for the visitor to turn it off/reduce the volume. Believe you me, if you don't have that option/control, you _will_ drive people away, ... and that you don't need at all (as you can easily tell). Plus business sites (good ones anyway) usually don't have background music, as that is regarded as rather cheesy, as well as irritating to your audience. Anywho, getting down off my web designer soapbox now. :) Hope that link helps.
  22. At least Woodstock had better music.
  23. ??? I don't get it. What's changed about it?
  24. Speaking of old poster, anybody here remember that old (70s?) poster that showed a hawk/eagle descending upon a mouse, and the mouse was flipping the bird at the hawk? I remember seeing that, and for the life of me, I can't (so far) find it anywhere mentioned on the net. Anybody here have any info on where I can find such an item? Thanks!
  25. Ya know, I'd prefer it being Beevis and Butthead. Cuz then, alive or dead, .... we'd be PART-A-Y-Y-ING! "Hehe he hehehe Garth said 'part-a-y-y'. Rock on, Garth!"
