Rascal (and other home school parents), What kind of schooling did you get? Public or home schooling? Thought so. ... And yet all you folks turned out to be rather smart individuals, hmmm? I keep hearing this kind of debate time and again between the public schoolers and home schoolers and, beyond the valid points raised by those who home school their children about the actual flaws residing in the public schools, I see many times where public schools in as a whole being portrayed as a losing situation that benefits no one, or as a kind of 'statist' attempt to take away parental control of their kids, or as some part of some Commie/one-world-government/end times scenario. And its especially interesting in that many of the parents and others who b*tch about the quality of public schools are usually the staunchest opponents of increased funding for those schools, particularly when it involves *raising taxes* ((GASP)) by a couple of pennies per thousand $ of proerty taxes or some other such miniscule amount! (Classic case of this is Alabama, whose public schools are a laughing stock as compared to the rest of the country, a lot of it due to the state house refusing to provide ample funding, because they are so *scared* to raise the already LOW state taxes.) There are still some public schools that do very well in the quality of their instruction/control of discipline. And usually those are the ones who get a good amount of funding and their teachers are paid *well*. Some folks yammer on about 'throwing good money after bad' in their ignorant dismissal of the need for increased funding by the taxpayers. I know that spending money itself isn't enough, but its a lot better than cutting the necessary funding to the bone, especially when we have politicians who call for the dismantling of the U.S. Dept. of Education. Oh by the way, here's another point we all might want to consider. European and Japanese public schools, which have a lot MORE of 'gummint' involvement in their operations as a whole, are by and large, a lot BETTER in quality in their cirriculum and discipline. And compare very favorably to not only private schools, but also many home schools as well. ??? I'm sorry, but could someone explain the discrepancy between this fact and the 'public schools = statist and godless failures' formula? -->

Also a very important question to consider is: Can it be uninstalled if it doesn't work out? Or can you 'roll back' to the previous state under Service Pack 1?

Update for Firefox, Thunderbird, Mozilla
GarthP2000 replied to Mister P-Mosh's topic in Computer Questions
Oh I see your question now. It shouldn't overwrite your previous bookmarks, but then again, I mihgt be wrong on this. I'm still new to Firefox's way of doing things. So bear with me a bit, ok? -
Update for Firefox, Thunderbird, Mozilla
GarthP2000 replied to Mister P-Mosh's topic in Computer Questions
Nope! It automaticaly imports all of your IE bookmarks. :)--> I have no idea as to whether you have to delete any previous versions of Firebird or not; I went ahead and overwrote mine. But then again, I didn't download all the 'extensions'. If I were to guess tho', you might be prepared to download the extensions again, as new versions of applications usually do require you to reinstall whatever plug-ins that they use. If/when you install ver. 10PR, let us know what you think of it. -
Update for Firefox, Thunderbird, Mozilla
GarthP2000 replied to Mister P-Mosh's topic in Computer Questions
Update on Firefox: Their new v1.0PR is now out, and I downloaded and installed it. And it is a *significant* improvement over the previous release! Hell, better than IE even at IE-like operations and look-and-feel. Much faster. Better and more stable feel. etc., etc. I could go on, but download it for yourself and see what I mean. I know I sound like a freekin' commercial, but just go to www.mozilla.org, download the latest release, and let us all know what you think. -
I came across this 'tip' from the W2KNews newsletter:

JIT = Just In Time compiler. It is a Java interpreter that compiles the instructions on all those Java applets into machine code as its loading them whenever you visit websites that has those applets.

Steve, Geeez, guy! You act as if those who believe/teach pre-tribulation rapture are nothing but dishonest snake-oil salesman/hucksters who are out to get every penny that they can out of us. That there is something about that POV that makes noble men into thieves/liars/whatever. Lighten up, Frances. Apparently CES believes all of that because to them it appears to be biblical. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. Maybe they have their collective heads shoved up their nethers. But then again, with your *way* oversimplified butchering of what Raf was trying to tell ya, your thinking skills are a couple of sandwiches shy of a picnic as well. -->

"God" Vs. Zeus Vs. Allah
GarthP2000 replied to Mister P-Mosh's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
How about George Burns vs. God? ... Or Bruce Almighty vs. God? Or ...? Dmiller, I *love* that! Good one! :D--> -
Oldies, and so forth and so on, ad nauseum. :o--> Oldies, your excuses like this are dishonest and manipulative on their face. I keep reading your excuses for/whitewashing of VP (yes they are, dude), and it basically uses the verses that you bring up in a dishonest manner. The reason they are dishonest is that they are trying to portray honest complaints/forwarning to others about VPW's abuses as violations of those verses. They are not. Hate filled? So hate is the prime motivator behind those who have had first hand knowledge of what abusive preachers and ministers in TWI did, and are trying to let people know about it? If that's the case, Jesus Christ himself would fail your test *miserably*, for look at the negatives that he taught about the Pharisees. Or when Paul the Apostle did the same thing. Oh, but she keeps on and on and on, thus seeming to look like she is **obsessed** with this guy Weirwille. ... Ahh not quite. You see, there are continuously new people coming to this board, both recent evacuees/evictees from TWI, and of folks who never heard of the group. So, uhh, Rascal should now say "Sorry folks, but my Oldies-given quota for complaining about VPW is now all used up. Since I don't want to appear like I'm *hateful*, and *vindictive*, I can't say anything more against Weirwille." Oh yeah, Right! (Oh by the way, I don't hear YOU limiting yourself likewise in the complaints about Trinitarians and their doctrine. I mean, come on man! Where is your Love of God in Renewed Mind in Infestatio--uhh I mean, Manifestation in the Household? -->) Sorry guy, but something tells me that it isn't just an issue of so-called 'hateful and rage-filled' ranting on her part that you are s-o-o-o concerned with, but that it regards a specific target of that ranting, ... Victor Paul Weirwille, that gets your panties in a knot. Wierwille's dead. His reputation is dirt, fit to be trod under the foot of men. His organization is dead in the water, and waiting for someone to pull the plug on life support. ..... You might want to seriously think about getting yourself another, more meaningful hobby. ... ... like collecting lint from pants pockets. :D--> P.S., sorry for the derail, Rascal. Carry on.

Wierwille's Actions vs. His Words: Starting Over
GarthP2000 replied to Oakspear's topic in About The Way
One positive thing (if it can be said) about Smikeol's would-be offering of his daughters to VPW in place of having a 'Mary worship' religion is this: This clearly and unequivicably shows that Smikeol's (and ultimitely VPW's) god ..... SUCKS!!! --> -
Amazing how childish and churlish you can be when guarding your orthodoxy, and often mistaking your tactics for what is required for your apologetics. "I was pretty much loaded to pursue, flush out, lay out and spend time humiliating some unrestrained and conscienceless Socinian bear who had entered a Trinitarian camp and began carrying off from the identity of an apologetic ministry." -- Is this more of your 'calling out into the street' that dastardly 'Socinian' that has been terrorizing the Trinitarian schoolmarm? I'm sorry, but somehow mixing the culture of the Reformed Church and B-rated TV westerns just doesn't mix well, ... not without causing indigestion. :P--> :o--> Tell me something guy, have you been browbeaten into acting this way? Do you have this condescending view of anything unitarian/'heretical' because you are desperately trying to 'redeem' yourself from your previous TWI experience? And I'm not talking about nailing CES over its improper usage of copyright material (which you made a good case for), but this almost malevolent and deriding attitude of those whom you render heretic. Have you often wondered why NONE of us have come crawling to you on our hands and knees in contrite repentence, "begging for God's mercy"? (or maybe yours, hmmm?) Maybe its your none-too 'diplomatic' manner that might be the problem there? Ya think? "Knowing that its the goodness of God that leads them unto repentence." You ever think about actually implementing that verse and what it communicates into your rigorous 'defense of the Gospel'? I doubt that it might work on me (mouthy and polemic unitarian/heretic that I am ;)-->), but it might have others looking your way more favorably. Very good! Welcome to the 18th century. Only 3 more centuries to go before you get caught up with the times. -->

Nice thing about Mars Hill? It was a classic example of an open market of ideas; an open society, as it were. Which is (IMHO) preferable to closed societies like TWI, and various other fundamentalist groups, where a wide range of opinions and challenges are hardly tolerated.

Hiya Glad, I don't know where they are at now, but I remember them from W-A-Y back in 1980-1983 when I was in Indy. Sandi was in a women's Way Home on the West Side of Indianapolis (and ran a Word in Art fellowship for a while there), and I think that she was either seeing or was at least friends with Gary Barnes. Good folks they are, and I hope that they are out of TWI. :)-->

Hey! I'd be*really* happy if he'd spontaneously combust; heck, I'd even pay good money to watch! ... $10, mebbe $20. Gotta be real fire, tho'. :D-->

sky4it, Of course I'm poking fun at Cynic's comments; ie., the "Step out into the street, Mr. Lynn!". If it weren't for that, Satori's right; I wouldn't have addressed it, as it is Yet More Calvinist theological challenge/railing against their old time adversaries, Unitarians. And apparently Cynic views unitarian beliefs (both the 'biblical' variety and the 'new age' variety) as something vile, that is either a threat to society, and/or an *insult* against his God. And like a 'good knight defending the Faith', off he goes tackling his windmills---err 'ungodly opponents'. ;)--> And yes, I do view it as quite Quixotic. And ya know, the funny thing I find about Satori's defense of Cynic is, Satori doesn't really believe this theological stuff himself. An agnostic-sorta guy running to the defense of a stout Orthodox believer. Oh yeah, this stuff is *rich* with humor and satire! Hell, it almost makes for good English comedy. :D--> Too bad the founder of Monty Python is dead. He might have made a good "Life of Brian" knockoff flick with it.
-
Read it again, Satori, carefully this time. And you say *I* can't read? Of course Cynic is communicating "Your life isn't as important as my theology." (Less global significance?) And he says it in as just a derisive way ("particular little life") as you see in John Lynn. And you should talk about treating people with derision. Interesting you see it so often in others (namely Democrats, liberals, Lynn followers, VPW followers, moderates, et al.) yet either you can't see it in yourself, or you usually justify it based on some conservative-sounding 'principle'. And this has nothing to do with John Lynn, as I've directed this same kind of humor and satire at him, so spare me. Whatever! But if this is what you see as 'harrassment', your skin is thinner than I thought. (And it isn't even aimed in your direction) Harrassment my a**! (And I didn't realize that a mis-spelled word constituted harrassment. -->) Sheesh! Lighten up, Frances. You must be really having a rather bad day to see my humurous posts as 'harrassment'. The intensity of which comes nowhere near the searing derision of yours.
-
Okay, my apologies, but I did find Cynic's 'calling out' John Lynn for a theological showdown rather hilarious. And I do find sky4it's post of "Wonderfully, I think Uncle Harry's particular little life is of more signifance to the Master, than the truth and error concerning the God of Scripture." more in tune with what many people are looking for as regards spiritual truths than the 'escotological dogmas' and other verbal flatulance by those who take their theology a tad more serious than is necessary. But then again, that's just my 'particular little life', ...and I think that its fine right where it is. Carry on Sheriff Cynic. ... Just try to aim straight, willya? (But seriously QQ--err, Satori, trying to portray my *2* posts as "trolling, stalking or personal harrassment" is going a bit over the top, ... even for you. So lighten up will you? Don't want to start sounding like R0cky now do you? ;)--> )

JustPlainSilly: How many more John Lynn threads can we start?
GarthP2000 replied to Steve!'s topic in Humor
Hell, lets move ALL John Lynn threads to the Just Plain Silly forum. -
"Here he comes to save the d-a-a-y-y-y!!" The love that this guy has for us folks, .... kinda gets ya (tapping chest) right here. ((wistful sigh))
-
"Step out into the street, Mr. Lynn!" Yes folks, what we have here is the Calvinist version of the showdown at high noon! ((insert tune from the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly here ;)-->)) Except it seems that this involves the weapon of choice being theological dictionaries! --> And the proper and skilled usage of big and multi-voweled words therefrom. Thus we have a combination of The Defense of Orthodoxy and Have Gun, Will Travel. And as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly whistling tune fades into the background, I scrounge around, looking for where I put that pic I made of Calvin in the cowboy hat. ... But lets face it folks, Reagan, he ain't. ;)-->

Sorry Rafmiester, But I gotta go with Rascal on this one. So 'the Real John' shows up and makes a post. ((slowly twirling my finger in the air in a sarcastic motion)) ... Whooo-peeee!! ... Whatta miracle! Hell, he even posted his phone number. Ok, I'll give him a few more points for that, altho' anybody can look up anybody's number via online white pages sites if their number isn't non-published or [/b]non-listed[/b]. If this is his only post, (unless he follows thru and posts more) then his post is basically just an advertisment, a teaser. So here he is, an imitator of Jesus Christ supposedly, right? So that's what Jesus did all of his life? Playing 'popup ad' all over Isreal, hoping that folks would nibble at it, and then come to hear his teachings (and perhaps buy his books)? Yeah, I said 'popup ad', 'cause that's the impression that I got with Lynn's 'let me show ya how much I love ya' post. :P--> ..... Hell, and I thought I had my spam and popup blocker working! --> Thanks but no thanks, John. And if you do post again (altho' I sorta doubt it) do us all a favor. Do NOT advertise for Momentus. Because there are many here who would treat that 'popup ad' like a VIRUS!!

Don't tell that to Raf. He might not take kindly to it. :D-->

Jim, And a good comeback to that would be "Well, I guess I'm not a damn fool then." :D-->
