There are believed to be only 350 North Atlantic right whales remaining. A system to monitor underwater sounds detected 219 right whale calls in one 24-hour period last week. The reason for the gathering is copepods, minute crustaceans that are one of the right whales' main food sources. I just bought whale watching tickets for my daughter and myself, hope to get a glimpse. Ships crossing the area have been asked to proceed slowly to avoid hitting feeding whales. The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary is an area between Cape Cod and Cape Ann where schools of fish and large numbers of plankton provide food for dolphins and whales. Interesting topic WS. I have moved to 3 different states in 8yrs. I never left my homeland till my mom passed in 2002. I grew up in Chicago area, and moved to DC area then to NC and up to New England..talking about crossing cultures.wew! It has been a trip to say the least! Now I commute via 2 buses and a train to work to Cambridge,Mass. I work a mile from Harvard University. Who would of thought I would end up here. Boston is intriguing..the winter's are long and summer's to dang short but the treasure is fall! On St.Patty's day I decided to go out to the courtyard where all the restaurants and bars are!! To my surprize there was bagpiper outside the Irish pub playing pipes..what a great lunch!! sitting on a stone wall listening to bagpipes..only in Boston!
