Actually if our parents had wanted us to go in the corps or WOW non of us would have gone in... or realtively few of us would have done it.

I better add that just becasue my time in TWI was okay in no way negates all the bad stuff that happened in fact it is even more appauling to me as I wish I could scoop up all the people who were hurt and make them feel better. and undue my time with TWI...

The trouble is that when someone has been abused it often becomes he said she said,,, and there is very little evidence left except word of mouth... the other problem is that when people have had a good experience or no experience with the abuser, or the abuser is in a position of trust (someone who should be above this kind of abuse) it is difficult for people who hear of the abuse to believe or give credability to the person who claims they were abused... and do not for a second think that it is due to not knowing the claimant... It happens in families all the time. I know from my own first hand experience. When people don't want to hear it they assume you are a liar, even when there is actual hard evidence. What angers people on this forum is that some posters immediately want everyone to pull out legal documents to prove what they say. For one thing this is not a court of law it is a forum... and yes it is set up to discuss what happened in TWI not just the good but the bad and not just the bad but the good... but when you constantly attack some one for trying to tell you what happened to them ... you effectively silence them... And people on here are grown up enouogh (one would hope) to take what they read and sift it through a bit. and allow for some error. As far as banning someone... it happens on most forums from time to time. just remember you wouldn't want to be trying to tell what happened to you and have some one calling you a liar to your face... especially as most people tell this kind of stuff because they genuinely want to warn others. For myself my time in TWI, as I have said before was quite pleasant I was very lucky but I saw stuff and heard stuff that made me wonder... being young I didn't pay enough attention to it... I find it difficult to read some off this stuff.. it is hard to come to grips with what the real ministry was... but it lines up with some of the stuff I heard and saw... I will say this though... we all do need to be more careful that what we share is as close to accurate as possible... We all are human... mistakes are made, but pulling out the snide little chapter and verse line is rude and self defeating... how about... oh I never saw that... was it ina teaching tape maybe or a teaching you heard or something you saw.. I had that happen when I brought up something I had believed was taught in the class and was shown that I was wrong, that some memories had become muddled.... But when some one is recounting what actually happened to them it is beyond rude to tell them they are a liar if they don't have court documents to prove what they say. There you go my two cents with an extra $1.50 thrown in for good measure. edited to add whoops I spent so long composing and being interupted a lot more was said between when I started and when I posted

I feel sorry for them becasue I know where it all leads to. But this begs the question... is he aware of his hoax or just crazy and has managed to get a ton of people to follow him?

Doriangreen, hang in there pray for her often at some point something will be said or will happen that will open her eyes... but don't worry if you do not seem to be making progress. As was said she will have to decide to leave on her own.. You really can't make people see sense sometimes.. and Some folks choose to be blind to reality... Some folks even if their best friend told them about an incident that happened wouldn't believe it anyway. Some people can stand right there and watch the perpetrator do something and still say it never happened because it is easier to deny the event then to admit the person they love/venerate is an evil scum sucking pig.

I use the pressure canner too. it is great for stuff that you would normally have to worry about. I always follow the instructions to a T including sanitization instructions. I make soups and salsas and applesauce too. I use both Ball and Mason supplies and Peppers are great because you can just throw them in bags in the freezer and pull out as you need them. For beans I use the blanch method Waysider mentioned. I have found that those vacum packaging machines work really well at keeping freezer burn to a minimum. So I do both but send lots of canned stuffs home with both daughters and friends. BTW yeah dogs and chickens do not mix. and bird dogs especially would have difficulty. Also any Dog with Dingo blood is out they have a one track hunt and kill mode and can bring down a bird in mid flight Chickens are easy prey for them.

Okay since we are talking garden product... canned goods My grandma used to make this amazing home made currant jelly. it was so psectacularly delicious. Living out west I am unable to even begin to experiment.. This is tempered by the fact that because of where I live, I have Santa rosa Plums... THe BEST jamming plum ever. Not to mention Apricots.... a special small sweet variety (Blenheim) that is grown specifically for drying and jamming in my area. MMMMM the golden fragrant fruit is just a few short months away.

Oh My mY... I come from farming stock though until recent years I have lived always in the city... regarding the chickens the nicest ones friendliest are the rhode Island reds.. and the astrolorphe.. teh buff orphingtons make the best mamma hens.. and do not get sex links they are by nature mean, they lay lots of eggs and are hardy but they are not friendly. I also love the sweet gentle black bared(the striped chicken) Once we had a leghorn but she was just so skitish I would never have another unless it was by accident. Depending on which type of Aracana you get they can be friendly or shy... they lay green eggs. and are ferocious bug hunters. THis is a big plus.. Mine are free range throughout the yard and they keep my snail population to a real minimum. A big plus in California where as Rumrunner pointed out the snails have inherited the earth. LOL. Also Rumrunner I have another snail disposal secret. it is gorilla hair. snails are gone over night when you put it down HAng on let me get a link... Gorilla Hair Mulch This stuff is awesome and non toxic. I have seen snails completely disappear overnight. No poison involved. do note you have to wear gloves when working with it as it is shredded red wood bark and you get splinters from it.

I am sadly not a got one to ask though I could give you exceptional directions on plucking. I name them all. We had a turkey once and he was like having a really stupid dog around. but he was cute and funny... but really quite stupid. THe chicken are actually smarter than the turkey was. I will say this laying hens do not make good eating hens. They have flavor. NOT really gamey like a duck but herbaly .. if that makes sense. and they are lean on meat compared to a hen you would get at the store.(Meaning Scrawny) Also I can not bring myself to wring their necks.... (The naming thing I am sure) IF I was starving Maybe. THE ones I plucked and ate were all killed by my dog. and I just happened to come home about 15 minutes after it happened. THis was years ago. Any way if you do want hens you will want to get different kinds for laying versus eating Good laying hens are Rhode Island reds. Black bared, Aracana Sometimes called americanas, and leghorns. I would also recomend buff orphingtons and astrolorphs. For eating hens you need to get some RockX's THey are breed to be eaten and grow very rapidly. THey are fully grown to butcher and eat in about 4-6 monthes depending on how big you want your roaster. Regarding the plucking it took three hens and by the third I could fully pluck it and gut it in 3 minutes. THe first took about 8 minutes, the second 5 and the third was considerably faster. There is a trick and a meithod to it. IT is not as messy as you would think. But since my hens are all for laying I have never eaten any more. I would think after two or three you would like the flavor more than the store chickens. edited for my attrocious spelling and for clarity ; )

This is my Third year growing the garlics.. The only way I can tell if they are done is to brush some soil away around the crown and check on size and the look of the paper skin. LOL but yes you are correct they take a long long time to grow. I am a bit worried about these as I got them in a bit late so they may be trying to bolt on me before they are ready to harvest. I am planing on throwing some hay over the tops as a mulch to help keep them cool once I get to May. DO you use a plant calendar.. I have never been faithful enough to one to make them useful to me. I tend to pick when it looks ready to me.

This is really excellent news... every little bit more makes progress. Currently with Bongo.. my little feral boy he is letting me scoop him up quite regularly as long as I come out to him on the back porch from the house... If I come in from the garden it is no dice.. and if he encounters me outside he doesn't run completely away but keeps a healthy distance between the two of us. One day they all will be happy little family integrated kitties

WEll in answer to the beginning of the thread I would say as a child and a young man yes VPW was a victim but once a person steps over the line from being the victim to victimizing another they are no longer a victim, but now a victimizer. I would also say that any person who was victimized but has made a conscious effort to move their life toward a more harmonious place is no longer a victim.=, in a sense they have found jhealing and strength and moved their life forward. We as children and adults make choices every day. will I do this or will I do that... will I say or do something that is going to hurt that person or will I make an effort to word it so that it helps rather than hurts., or will I try to help or hurt that person. Being victimized does not mean that you have to be a victimizer of others. In fact most victimized children actually grow up to be healthy functioning adults with a few minor issues. Children and youth are traped in a situation they have very little control over but they do make choices even when they are little to either move their life in a different direction or follow in the footsteps of their abuser, when they grow up. They also make reroutes in their life as they go along.. any person in TWI that abused some one else even if it was because some one else showed or told them to do it... is ultimately responsible for what they did. Can they repent of it and be healed? of course they can. IT is all up to you what you will do in your life.

LOL fro a second there I thought I lost this thread but I was just looking in the wrong places. Okay I got baby plant booty. I was trying to decide wether to set it up as a slide show or as well just pictures so I set it up as just pictures less work becasue I have to go get some vegetables form my spanish report and presentation due on Tuesday any way without further adu here are some lovelies. These are all the babies in their new greenhouse like contraption which has been on for a week and they really took off growth wias as soon as I put it on them. And some petite cabbages aren't they cute I cant wait to eat them! Baby spinach up close an personal.. this is a nice spring variety and I do have a summer variety that I plant that doesn't bolt as bad in the heat. And the lovely carrots in between some radishes and some kind of lettuce greens. which I will be steaming and munching on shortly (The lettuce/greens that is) And last but not least the garlics which are doing amazing. and my mouth is watering just looking at them. Oh and in case you are wondering this is the new green house contraption thingy... I have to modify the next couple of them I make for one thing they will be with bird netting. and if you are wondering about the metal cage thing that is to keep chickens out the only problem being they are too short so the plants grow thru them and they are hard to get into without removing the whole cage and then I get help from the chickens thus the modified green house thingys.
