  1. I should have known you'd be impressed Zixar. I am sure you will do something similar or better soon. Well, DSL for internet. But yes, cable for TV. In this area they have several HDTV broadcasts and that box on top is a digital HDTV box. Supposedly better than Satellite. One thing that surprised me is that the expensive flat plasma screens that are all the rage make lousy computer monitors. We would have chosen the plasma had we not seen for ourselves that this new DLP technology is better for TV and computing. Article about Samsung DLP Furthermore it is cheaper by almost half, lightweight and only about 20' deep.
  2. Have been wanting to do this for years. 50" of computing in the living room on an HD TV. High speed internet access, LAN access to all files including MP3's. Sound will be going from an Audigy 2 directly to our surround sound 6 speaker system via Optical out connection. Wireless keybopard and mouse. Mouse is a motion sensitive mouse. (Mouse moves as you move it in the air.) Picture quality is not bad, even for gaming. This DLP TV supports up to 1280 x 768 making it fine for a big screen. Haven't hooked up the sound or mouse yet. Will keep you posted.
  3. I have often wondered what an invaluable tool the Internet would have been to men like Bullinger? Hard to specualte, but I am sure he would have written quite a few more books.
  4. They are both good. In fact they are fierce rivals and I heard are involved in a lawsuit. What do you mean by "pop up"? Do things pop up when you are not even on a web site? Are you on a 56k dial up connection or an "always on" high speed connection? Read through some of the tips and trick thread here. Sounds like you need to disable a service called Messenger. Also review some of the other pointers there. You can make this stuff go away permanently and never come back. Furthermore your computer will be faster accordingly. Oh, and it helps to know whether you are on the 6 year old Windows 98 or the newer XP.
  5. :D--> :D--> :D--> Glad you had a good time. Sounds like it was an exciting adventure. How was the Jain convention center? I heard it is huge, one of the largest in all the East and literally bug-free. Someone sent me this picture of you while you in attendance. You a good man: Simon the Jain Here are more exciting photos from the convention: Jane Convention And look. Harvey was one of the guest teachers: http://www.jainworld.org/JAINA%202003/dsc00202.jpg [This message was edited by igotout on October 29, 2003 at 2:32.]
  6. "We find it highly regrettable that you have converted what should have been a private family matter into a public attack" Harvey, you mean kinda like the many times that I have heard inappropriate public attacks against good hearted people who stood with The Way for years? Here is but one example. I was in the audience when this was taught. I was astounded when it was basically said that Rev. Art P and his wife killed their own daughter, Naomi, by leaving the Way Ministry. It is clearly implied that THEY were the cause of their daughter being in a plane crash. (Therefore they killed everyone by that logic): Ron Brown & Naomi P
  7. Yeah - I wish MSFT would do tabbed browsing. I have heard good thigs about it. Look for them to COPY this idea of tabbed brosing in their upcoming FREE versions. I'll be we see popup blocking features in it as well. They can't allow someone else to innovate ahead of them. :D-->
  8. Shellon - Just click on the link above. Scroll Down to Download. It takes you to ano0ther site with lots of downloads. Scroll down and choose to download the one named SPySites. Then follow my instructions above to help prevent Spyware from getting to you in the first place. For Spyware that already exists on your computer, Shellon, you should run the free program called Ad Aware. Download it here. Once you get to that page look on the right column for "Download our Software". If you are getting a lot of junk email (Spam), consider changing your email address and keep your new address off the internet as much as possible. Try not to give it out except to friends and family. Use a junk email account for internet related purchases or registrations.
  9. I may have found a way to prevent most spyware from getting to your computer. It's a little tricky but I believe it is good to do this, especially on kids computers. I am not smart enough to have figured it out but I read about this and tried it and like it. Download a free program called SpySites. It is found here. It says the following: Stop Web Sites from installing Spyware, Sleazeware and Cookies on your PC SpySites includes a database of over 4,600 known Spy/Sleaze sites and guides you through the simple process of including them in Internet Explorer's Restricted Zone and setting policies to prevent them from performing intrusive acts on your PC. By setting the policies for the Restricted sites zone to a very high level of security, you can be assured that any web sites added to the Restricted sites zone cannot do certain things which could compromise your privacy and security Once you download and install SpySites, open it. Look on the menu at the top ...Options. Click on "Add All Sites to Restricted Zone" Congratulations. You just restricted more than 4600 known spy sites from affecting your computer in any way. This includes some of the worst known offenders. With XP and 2000 I believe you must log on to each user who is using the computer and do the same thing with their browser. Each user has his own unique browser settings. You can then close the SpySites program. This is only a trial demo version. You have added the basic needed protection. You may not need SpySites again for a while but if you do you can simply download another trial version or purchase the registered version for $20. Comments about this appreciated. I have just tried this for the first time.

Will you trty this and let me know if it works accordingly? I am a new user as well. But I anticipate that I will all but see the disappearance of spyware on my computer again.
  11. Another post from another 9th Corps dude: Vee Pee Harvee He needs to lighten up and start posting here where he belongs :D-->. signed "Harve J. Platig Vice President The Way International"
  12. The browser is the software you are using right now to look at this website. Internet Explorer browser. A web browser.
  13. Well, Mormon or not, it will not back up using Grab A Site, Zixar. I have spoken to Grab a site tech support. (I am using the free 30 day demo version for now). They said they will get back to me and do some tests. They never did get back to me. On two occasions I emailed MyFamily.com about how to back up their site. No response. Maybe they do not want people to back up.
  14. Well stated New Knoxville Native. I agree with your viewpoint. These men need to really start thinking of their future and that of their families if they have not already done so. If they get honest, are they REALLY happy in their current situation? Do they know what they might be missing in life? In our aging years we have one last shot at really enjoying our lives to the fullest. Life is too short to be holed up in a seemingly isolated and bleak situation, surrounded by stress and day to day tensions. For their information, it is NOT that way in all of life. Maybe they have grown so used to "the battle" that they think life is a battle. It is not. If it is, it is time for a change. How many dozens of people even in in my small circle of friends have said they are so much better off after having made a drastic change regarding their involvement in TWI. In the context of staff and top leadership, in my opinion it is far more scary to stay than to leave. [This message was edited by igotout on October 25, 2003 at 17:42.]
  15. I am glad that TWI has finally decided to communicate. It's about time they decided to set a precedent. It is long overdue. I do not really know all the facts about this situtation and feel this dispute is between the parties involved. On the surface Mr. Platig's response letter seems malicious. Is that necessary? Why bring up anything about an inheritance? What planet is that from? They seem so conspiratorial. Are they afraid of losing more followers, more revenue? I still remain confused about their actions and statements. Much of this negative publicity has been brought upon themselves due to their years of meanness towards good people. Maybe TWI should ask themselves why and how this mess came to be in the first place. I agree with several others who have observed the obvious. If they are so concerned about this matter and posting the real truth in this situation why are they asking Grease Spot to use its server space to host their own letter? Why did they not post this letter on their own server space on their own website and ask Grease Spot to make a link to it? 1. Maybe they are afraid of looking bad to their own followers. 2. Maybe they want Grease Spot to do their dirty work for them. 3. Maybe they know that Grease Spot is far more widely read than TWI's website. Personally I consider it a way to "fellowship daily" with other Christians from all over the world. Where is their discussion forum? 4. Maybe they know that many of their own followers read Grease Spot regularly in order to remain informed of basic facts and developments that seem to remain hidden. I am not sure why they seem to fear openness and dialogue, both positive and negative. The world wide web is here to stay and more high speed connections are being installed each and every day. They might as well get used to it. [This message was edited by igotout on October 25, 2003 at 17:47.]
  16. By hijacked I think they mean that a program takes control of your browser and adds components to it without asking you. (How rude). Not that it disappears. I'm sorry. I thought you meant that this annoyance was a toolbar in your browser. Do you mean the toolbar is present even when your browser is closed? Try finding it in MSCONFIG and uncheck it. Also look in Start / All Programs / Startup and make sure nothing is in there. If it is, delete it unless it is something you need to start when your computer is turned on.
  17. Sounds like your browser was hikjacked. (How rude of them.) Well, I don't know. First I would try the Ad Aware program to get rid of any Spyware. 2nd you could try to go to Start / Run/ MSconfig and go to the startup items. Uncheck the item you think may be responsible for this invasion. You can get a clue from here Startup list explained Also look into this littel program that prevents your browser from being hijacked again: Hijack blaster
  18. try this p.byrne@t-online.de I have her phone as well. She is in Germany. I wanted some of her 9mm films she took in Emporia. But she said she has lost them all. My plan was to convert them to DVD. :(-->
  19. What version is your cousing using. THere were terrible probs with Word 97. IMO it was not until Word 2000 that it starting getting more stable. Point is, pre 2000 versions may suck in lots of ways. Even Word 2000 has updates that are critical to install. (You are updating Office regularly aren't you? If not click here: Office Updates ) Anyone using Office 2000 should have Office Service Pack 3 installed.
  20. Yes, Zixar, I would think it has to work within the context of a web site as you described, one with Front Page extensions installed. There always seem to be somebody somewhere who provides a service for just about anything for a fee. (What a great country.) So, Herbie, what about that other site, the 3rd one I listed. Di you check it out: http://www.parnova.com/samples/index.html They appear to do it all for you in a secured log in environment. Why not pay them to do it professionally. The end user participating in the survey migh never know the difference.
  21. I would have to look into it further but you would probably want to have this Excel Everywhere form on YOUR website. Then it is probably sent back to you in the form of email or something like that. Sort of like a Feedback form. I am not experienced in the area of web design or web sites but it doesn't appear to be too complex.
  22. Kinda like AdAware that you have on your computer already. (Praise be to my name.)
  23. Herbie - the first hought I had about this was that it might be good to do this in the context of a website devoted to your cause. You could have people fill out an online survery. It is far reaching, more so than a paper form. Look at this as an example: Excel online survey forms And look at this one for teachers: Teachers survey form And here is a company that appears to do all the work for you. Look at some of their sample surveys: Online survey samples Hope this gives you some ideas. I found the above examples by doing a simple Google search of online survey forms. Please complete the following survey. Did the above information: __ Help you __ Bore you __ Confuse you __ Please go away and do not bother me :D-->
  24. Herbie, What kind of interactive form are you trying to fill in and for what purpose. Many roads lead to Chicago as Ted sings. For example, one of my pet peeves for years was that I wanted some sort of interactive message form for phone messages. I was tired of all the pieces of paper and wanted and easier way to not only store and categorize phone messages but also to be able to email them and / or fax them. It was not as easy as I thought it would be but we finally got an awesome one. We did it in Word 2000. (Word XP is like saying Word 2002. May of the same features.) 1. It pulls data from our database if the caller is in our database. 2. Automatically inserts their name, company name, address, phone(s), fax, etc. 2. Automatically inserts the date and time message was taken, the name of the one who took the message. 3. Has a large space for writing the message with all of Word's features. 4. Has a space for the message recipient to respond with "Results" or "comments" that they can fill in and send back to us. 5. Has a few "Radio buttons" where needed so we can just check the box, for example: ___ Message taken via phone ___ Message left on voice mail It is a form that is custom made just for us. It has made life much easier and more efficient. Lay out your form on a full size sheet of paper to start with. Then go from there trying to figure out what to do to accomplish your goal. I am not an expert on forms. In fact ours is more of a template. They are similar I think. One thing I learned from my limited experience is that Templates have the extension *****.dot When you use the template and insert data into it you end up with a Word document with the extension ***.doc . The reason, of course is so that you do not over write your original template. There is a lot of help on the internet. Maybe some of us here could help you with some basics. I know that people have done some amazing things with forms. There may be some already pre made that you can download and modify. Same with Excel. PS - I, too, am a humble window cleaner.
  25. Zixar, it appears there is a new version. Maybe it is even better than wehn you used it. Looks pretty good. I will purchase it tomorrow and let ya'll know how it goes with backing up this Mormon owned and controlled Family site. Here is the link for Grab a Site 5.0 http://www.bluesquirrel.com/products/grabasite/index.html
