PAW, I gained a new appreciation for MACS when you were here. :D--> Nice power supply Bistro. I just might order one of those. I wish it had LED fans. I'm not a computer geek, guys. More of a computer hobbyist. And there are far more expensive hobbies like hot rods and airplanes and women. :D-->

The culture of rampant alchohol and wild parties and ......? other things. This was not just an occasional thing either. Oh, and just about everybody smoked like VPW. Pot was not all that uncommon either. I know of at least one minister who came and taught classes at Emporia who smoked pot some nights before he taught us. As a young person I kinda liked it, don't get me wrong. The majority general population believers did not know of some of the wild stuff going on but many leaders and ordained clergy did because they were there with us gettin just as drunk on Jack Daniels as we were. (Then driving all over the place.)The next day we would be in our Sunday fellowships like good little believers. It was fun, but I should have known it just wasn't right in the context of a supposed Christian organization claiming to live according to the bible. Hypocrites at best!

I've been busy, Skyrider, but saw your post. You nailed it! I agree. ______________________________________ I still believe that the MAJOR REASON why the roa was stopped was financial. Imagine having some 600 corps travel to Ohio with their families for two weeks....and all the expenses that would incur? Everything now that the corps did or implemented was a twi expense. ________________________________________ Your insight into this lame foot decision is insightful. (Almost sounds like you were in the thick of it :)--> ) I first heard it announced by LCM at a WAP Advanced Class in Rome City I believe. I just sat there stunned and shared with my wife that it is a mistake. He put the cart before the horse. Some of us have run small businesses and we know common sense needs to prevail. He, on the other hand, had no business experience in real life whatsoever, to my knowledge. I think he thought "If we teach it they will come", referring to his multimillion dollar WAP series of classes. He should have tested out the product first on the general population to see if ANYONE was the least bit interested. They weren't. The product SUCKED in my opinion. He also forgot the basic principle.... "You get what you pay for." And we all know how pathetically these full time Corps were paid. Can you share more about how they had to report back on EVERYTHING? I remember Paul & Phyll here having to do insane amounts of paperwork and reports and faxes. Also no cable TV and things like that. Some people do not have a clue about this brief peried of insanity and failure. LCM should have been fired, not Howard. Another calssic bad example of "Your abundant sharing at Work"

Wow! Please come over to my house. I am sloooooowww as molasses, contemplating each wire practically. I treat it as more of a hobby. Maybe I should be building ships in a bottle instead. :D--> I also am striving for quietness. Not easy with these hot parts. Totally silent PC's are what should be the norm. Someday soon it will be I think. Last one I built for my office has 7 fans and it was no $500.

Yes, for business purposes we occasionally need more than 5MB at times to synchronize remote sites, and some people do not know how to upload and link to a website. Pawtucket, I would be glad to try this out if you still have in invite.

THat is too long to spend on a repair. Normally should only take a few hours and you should never have to reinstall. One thing often overlooked when combatting Spyware and Viruses. Unplug your Internet connection until you are all clean, especially if you have high speed. Some of those will go back out and get more "friends" before you are done. They can't if you have no Internet connected. Spybot / Ad Aware / Spysites / Spywareblaster / Norton Antivirus 2004 / Firewall. Using these simple tools I have eliminated all possibility of problems for months on end. But that leaves us with Spam. Try using Yahoo or Hotmail. They have become pretty good at blocking Spam. Sometimes I wonder if computers are worth all the fuss. Oh, and PS - get XP Home and ditch the almost obsolete windows 98.

The case arrived today. It has no UV, just LED. I'm gonna add sound activated lights. It's a cool lookin case. My kids think so anyway. I like this company because they allow you to order only the pieces you need, unlike others out there. For example, I left out the floppy drive (obsolete). I left out the graphics card, hard drives, and burner. Installing the ones I want. But I accepted their Intel motherboard, power supply and their 1 GB Corsair memory (which has blinking leds along the edge of the modules indicating memory usage :D-->.) By the way, I am going with XP Pro over 2003 Server. I use both so I can compare how they both behave. This was a tough decision. But it came down to one thing......there is tons of support for XP vs 2003 Server. And you can "modify" XP more than 2003 Server.

Me? I am just building a little home computer server at this time. It is going to look something like this: Bushido I decided against a Raid 0 array for the reasons you mentioned. If one drive goes they are both gone. And I do not like Drive Imaging reliability nor do I like tape backups. And I am not wanting to do Raid 0 + 1 for my home and moderate gaming needs due to the number of drives needed, etc. My choice is this: DupliDisk 3 - EX Raid From my experience it is the ultimate lazy mans backup solution. You just unlock one of the mirrored drives, and take it off site and pop in another drive. Similar to a tape backup only using bootable hard drives. It may not be as fast as Raid 0 but with those Fast Maxtors I think I will have an awesome system that is constantly and easily mirrored with 100% off site backup. What are your thoughts?

Thanks Paw, I am going to wait until later because I have too many email accounts as it it. But I might switch to Google as I learn more. A question for you. Though it stores 1GB, what is the maximum attachment size that it will handle? My current one is limited to 5MB.

It's not a Michigan thing its a Windows 98 thing. Save it to show your great grandkids but get XP and the new computer to go along with it. Speaking of Syybot....be sure to update it and upgrade it or it might miss lots of spyware. Same with Ad Aware. Same principle as keeping your Antivirus software up to date.

Jim - wow! Those are THE fastest. But expensive and small compared to the Maxtor mentioned above. My understanding is that these Maxtors are almost as fast as the Raptors and hold up to 300 GB! But no question, the Raptors are the finest out there. Raid speeds them both up. Depends on the need and pocketbook I guess. Day to day hard drives are much better (and less likely to crash and burn) than they used to be for all of us. And cheaper too. My original point was to mention that it appears that SATA adds nothing at this point except looks and ease of installation. But I am sure this will change in the future.
-
I think this statement I saw pretty much sums up SATA hard drive technology as it stands right now. "The move to SATA makes drive intallation easier, but by itself, the interface soesn't provide any speed improvements over parallel ATA." And speaking of hard drives....the fastest non -SCSI hard drive in the world right now is the Maxtor Diamond Plus 10 with a 16mb buffer. It is nearly as fast as SCSI but a lot cheaper.

Not sure why you say to remove the video card Paw. Just curious. Probably a good reason but my (limited) experience is to leave everything in and just allow XP to discover the devices. It does a pretty good job of it usually. Hmmm. But after install, go to Nvidia's site and download the latest drivers. It is so easy these days. It is a simple file you download for all cards. You just click on it and it self installs. If it were me I would do all the Windows updates including service Pack 2 and as a final step go in search of the latest drivers for that Nvidia Card. Also I would go to Asus site and see if there is a BIOS upgrade for that board. Again a pretty simple install these days. It appears to me that your weakest link is 256MB Ram. Increase to 512 at a minimum. It is the best upgrade you can do for the cheapest price. I am highly in favor of formatting that drive. Wipe it clean before installing XP. Partitioning it is a good idea too. Use the partition for storage, etc. Another cheap but awesome upgrade is to get a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card and a good set of speakers with a subwoofer. Go to Best Buy. I recommend Klipsh or Logitech. You don't know what you are missing without taking advantage of the audio available out there these days. My new one will have 5 speakers and a sub, enough to rattle the windows. :D--> Another thing to consider is the power supply. Is it big enough to supply all the juice you need without a strain? A 350 or 400 Watt power supply is a cheap piece of hardware and easy to install before you upgrade. (My next computer contains a 550 Watt one!) But it can be a real problem to install AFTER you upgrade. there are dozens of choices out there and again Best Buy usually has a good one for a reasonable price. After you have this nice fresh installation please protect yourself against Spyware which is todays most destructive pest out there, even worse than viruses. But it is possible to be totally immune from spyware. Have fun.

Skyrider, this thread reminds me of that commercial comparing the price of something to something that is priceless. For example something like: Getting a computer with high speed Internet connection and learning how to use the Internet (even though it was not recommended by leadership)....$1,200. Discovering WayDale and Greasespot... PRICELESS ------------------------------------------- Defying leadership and going into debt to buy a house..... $10,000. down All the many benefits that follow for years to come.... PRICELESS :D--> :D--> :D--> Maybe someone can think of better ones. :D-->

For Anyone Who Stayed After the P.O.P. - Why Did You Follow Martindale?
igotout replied to Oakspear's topic in About The Way
1974 - 2000. Some of us "old timers" thought we could affect change within and really wanted to help others. We kept thinking that good changes were right around the corner. Kind of like a bad stock you keep holding on its way down. Maybe the WAP Class will be awesome. Maybe after a while he will come to his senses and allow people to come back with no restrictions or scrutiny. Maybe new graduating Corps will be better Once he finishes "cleaning out the household" there will be good times again. Once we begin to see thousands of new people coming in to a new class and a new ministry (Way Ministry II as LCM termed it) we will see revival and fun times again. None of these things happened. Instead we witnessed continued deterioration and the harmful effects of legalism, seeds of which were planted years before. LCM just watered and fertilized it. We also watched bad decision upon bad decision. We actually began to think that LCM was purposely destroying things without really knowing what he was doing. He would listen to no one. Typical self-destructive behavioral habits. The man needed serious psychological help in my opinion. But his leaders didn't have the guts to do anything about it. (Well, some did. Thanks, Paul and Fern.) In some ways I believe LCM became a victim too, even though some may not agree. Maybe one day he will talk about it but I seriously doubt it. -
When reading that Emporia story, one of my favorite movies, Full Metal Jacket, comes to mind, ha.

Praise! I have been searching for someone to confirm my conversion for years. I have been suspicious of it for a long time. Will you do this for me comma Tom comma when you are finished with those folks at work. How do you do it question mark? By listening to their tongue? What if they are mute? Then what mister? Lip read? Is there an overseer in place to confirm your conversion confirmation verifications? Is is Excathedra? Question mark, question mark, question mark.

Succintly put, in a nutshell. In my opinion, nothing more than a power struggle of egomaniacs with dollar signs (greed) in their eyes. CG won. I bet he made a ton of dough off his "ministry" as have others. Don't worry Chris. Those mean Wizards are all gone now. However, they have been replaced by an even worse demon called "Office Assistant". Office Assistant Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! I would love to read a copy of that piece of "research" he did. Ha, ha, ha! Nutso.

Stop, ya'll. :D--> I can't keep up, I am a slow learner, one of these who laughs last. I want to meet all of you in one place sometime in our lifetime, I say Las Vegas. If I win the lottery I'll pay all your ways there.

I know what you mean Kit, and I agree whole-heartedly.

In their current situation I honestly see no way they can do anything but close up shop and donate all the assets to another non profit org such as CFF or CES, Joyce Myer, or any other number of other 501 C 3's whose entire image has NOT been tarnished forever. To me it is almost as futile as trying to resurrect something like the PTL Club with Jim Baker or for Michael Jackson to publish childrens books or something. Ha! Ain't gonna happen and will be a waste of (other peoples)money trying. It's really time to move on, TWI. It is inevitable and just a matter of time in my opinion.

Silly girls. Don't you know he carries the "torch of the Word" from Dr. Wierwille? Funny, I can never get no newsletter or response or invite to join anything from that group or its "members", even thogh at one time I was interested. I am kind of suspicious of ANY group that does not embrace the Internet or has any public web site or some way that the general public can interact with them, "Contact Us" etc. Is there something to hide? Took The Way a LOOOONG time to get a web site. Seems they were kind of forced into it so they didn't look bad. Some of us were telling them for years what to do but they didn't listen to sound advice. Their loss. Well, where is CG and company? Time to reveal yourself. Heck you could even start here if you want, since we were in the Corps together. 7th Corps Website

Sorry Tom. She raised a good son whom I sure she was proud of. (And god knows, a funny one). My mom passed a few years ago and we still miss her but time eases the loss. Our condolences to you and your family. If there is anything we can do... call. igothope
