I remember we were listening on the radio in this vacation cabin my uncle had in Vermont.
-
I recently saw the silent movie "The Golem". I recognized the name of the camera person from "Frankenstein" and I could see how this movie was an influence on that one.

My kids were into Pokemon. I remembering going to an event at the local mall where they introduced the cards to get kids started. My daughter moved on to other Anime programs and movies and this fall she's going to college for Asian studies. She plans to learn Japanese and combine it with her interest in law and handle international business.

Makes me feel old that I don't have to verify the Gordon Sinclair story because I was in high school when it happened.

I have one question about the price of gas. Isn't one big factor in the price of oil the decline of the dollar due to the whole subprime mess ? I'm not defending the oil companies but if the dollar is down against other currencies isn't the cost of imported oil naturally going to go up ?

Dooj, You're probably talking about the commentary by Gordon Sinclair called "The Americans". It was done in 1973 and still resonates today. http://www.tysknews.com/Depts/Our_Culture/americans.htm

I'm reminded of the Grateful Dead song that goes "Bertha, don't you come around here anymore." from the Skull and Roses album.

Rottie, Have you ever tried Culver's ? The food there is very good. There's one at the corner of 75th and Rt. 59. We usually go to the one in South Elgin but they're all good.
-
Pirate, I remember "Night Of The Lepus". The bunnies were too cute to be threatening. Does anyone remember "The Green Slime"?
-
Dan, I've seen and enjoyed most of those movies you listed. Some I haven't thought about in ages. I recently bought the Rolling Stone magazine collection on DVD-rom and I would love it if there was a "Famous Monsters Of Filmland" collection.

From one May birthday (mine was the 12th ) to another have a Great Day and the happiest of birthdays !

No one else with a soft spot in their heart for those old monster movies ?
-
Raf, I'll definitely have to check out "Blacula". From what I've heard, William Marshall in the title role brings a touch of class that really makes the picture something special.

For someone who's lived up North all his life (Long Island and the Chicago area) I'd say yes. Otherwise to me it just looks like any other lizard.
-
I saw "Shrews". Nowadays it's usually sold on DVD as a double bill with "The Giant Gila Monster".
-
I just finished watching "The Giant Claw", a great 1957 movie about a buzzard from outer space. I love those old movies that used to be on shows like "Creature Features" and "Chiller Theater". I was one of those kids in the 60's who had those Aurora models of the Universal monsters and my stack of "Famous Monsters Of Filmland" magazines. "Gorgo", "The Giant Behemoth" and "The Beast From 20,00 Fathoms" were favorites of mine and I love it that you can find so many of them on DVD these days. Anybody else out there still enjoying those old movies ? What were some of your favorite movies of the genre ?

OK, looked it up. OriginalCaste's version came out in the beginning of '70, Coven's came out in the fall of '71. Coven's was the bigger hit.
-
Just for fun, it should be pointed out that the group that did "One Tin Soldier ( The Legend Of Billy Jack)" was Coven. I'm sure some innie will say there's some spiritual significance to that.

We're in the western Chicago suburbs. My wife felt it but I didn't. We were in different rooms when it happened. She was by an outside wall so maybe that had something to do with it or maybe at that hour I wasn't awake enough, as I had just gotten out of bed shortly before.

A very Happy Birthday to you ! I hope you're having a wonderful day !
-
One book I've enjoyed is "How To Succeed At Being Yourself" by Joyce Meyer.

Hope you had a wonderful day !

I still enjoy "Pressed Down's" music but the leaf analogy is wrong. A tree drops it's leaves every year and gets new ones, which is true about TWI but not the church as God intended. That's why Corinthians uses the analogy of the body to show we were all important.
-
Wishing you a "Happy Birthday". May you make good memories on this day !

Vickles, I understand the feeling. I've been through some lows and am dealing with one now. I don't understand why it is that sometimes I feel like I can't connect and other times I know beyond a doubt that I've heard His voice and felt His hand on my life. Just hang in there and know he's there. I wish I had all the answers but I know they're out there.
