Just read a neat quote: "History does not always repeat itself. Sometimes it just yells, 'Can't you remember anything I told you?' and lets fly with a club." -- John W. Campbell, Jr. Cheers, niKa

Simon: Thanks for saying "avatar." I looked, and guess what Pawtucket (or Bob?) put in the avatar list? Seems perfect. THANKS, PAWTUCKET AND BOB!!!!! Happy Thursday, everyone! Today, I get to go on a field trip to the hospital with the third grade.

Great picture! I see you. Tom: peacefulness at the homeplace, huh? You'll miss the bustle in a day or two! Here's a shout out to Rocky, who still peruses this thread. YO, ROCKY!!! Happy Tuesday, everybody!!!

You and mr.niKa would get along. He loves to climb high stuff. Never has much time for it these days, but thinks of the caribeeners and pitons, which are up in the attic, with a wistful look in his eye. I don't think that he was born without any fear of heights; I believe that he has a healthy respect for the tallness of the things that he climbs; it just seems that he loves the focus that such climbs bring. Every couple of years, he takes off for a few days, and comes back with sto-ries and pictures. He also loves scuba, which I have recently learned I cannot ever do again. I had back-to-back cases of immersion pulmonary edema; the first one went undiagnosed until the second one, when we finally figured out what was up: unusual, likely under-reported. completely not fun. But there's still snorkelling!

Rhino, Du-uude! You and IgotHurricanes still only look about 25 years old. WHAT is it that you guys are doing? Not fair. Women get older; men get cuter. Mr.niKa is the same way; he gets cuter every year. IgotOut, it does seem that you are uniquely positioned to do well during Hurricane season (unless you stand on that ledge at the wrong time). That gave me the willies just to look at the PHOTO; I could never have stood on that ledge! You are a maniac. The odd thing about guys, however, is that you will LIKE it that you are an acknowledged maniac. That's just . . . weird. If memory serves, weren't you also in the very first L.E.A.D. group? Since the current President does not believe in global warming, your business will likely get better. Just hold on to something solid until the weather blows over, okay? Happy Saturday at the new Greasespot. Iced tea and chicken nachos for everyone!
-
Okay, you guys are weird. Loveable, crazy-weird. Is it something in the weather? Hold on to something solid, Igotout! Toss an anchor out, or something. love, niKa

Very nice! I like this. A clean, well-lighted place, to be sure. Thank you very much, Pawtucket, and thank you very much, Bob. Adolf's in New Knoxville never had it this good. love, niKa

How are you folks in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas doing? Please know that we up here in Oklahoma are thinking of you, and praying for you.
-
I can't. My child might repeat them in school. Don't ask me how I know. :o--> Let's just say that after a couple of stupid, under-the-breath slip-ups, MamaniKa has cleaned up her act.

It's a cult site? Cooool. Ice Cream and funny hats for everyone!!! :D-->
-
Woh. How could anybody confuse that sweet cutie-pie, Doug, for Craig? They're completely different! I guess it was . . . dare I say this? . . . private interpretation!!! :D-->

That's a nice-looking website! Everybody looks very happy, and there is an open-ness to it that is quite appealing and friendly. Thanks for posting that, Excie!

Well, three things: 1) we didn't get nearly as many refugees as some places, so our resources can go around without being too stretched. Also, it's the Prairie thing; folks just like to make sure that everyone's OK. (Yes, it's also the Mountain thing, the Coast thing, and the Bayou thing; I understand . . . :)--> ) 2) that football game was a LOT closer than the score might indicate. We were extremely fortunate. 3) Tough day. Two years to the day since my Daddy passed away. Mom's doing well; is in love, and considering remarriage. She's really done us proud, and Dad would be proud of her, too. But is was still a tough day. Did anyone from the 9th Corps get to Mrs. W.'s funeral? I wanted to go, but distance and family responsibilities made it impossible. I though of them at that hour, and sent up a few prayers.

Good one, HCW. Good one, Research Geek.

I read this thread a few hours ago, and then bustled around, getting ready to go to sleep. Can't sleep; have to say this. Let's just say that there was somebody (anybody, really) there who was noticed and ostracized. For whatever reason. If another person noticed this going on, and took the time to go over and sit with the ostracized one, to make him or her feel comfortable and welcome, who would that second person remind you of? Yup. It would have been an extremely fitting memorial to Mrs. Weirwille. It might indicate that we picked up some of what she taught us. Goodnight, ya'll.

Jan, I don't know if there could be an accurate answer to that question. Most of us who post here are out of TWI, but there are said to be some who are still in, and flirting (or not) with the idea of leaving, who either post, or lurk and read, and consider, while never posting. Since it's a cyberworld, who knows for sure? ************************* On another subject: today's football game just started; I can hear the stadium announcer from my chair here, as I'm typing this. Let's hope that Tulsa doesn't fare as well as the Horned Frogs. ************************* I have a new student; she and her sister were attending college in New Orleans. They lost everything. Evidently, they and some others were holed up in the home of one of their school's administrators, waiting to be able to leave the area. He is an OU alum, and drove the lot of them here, got them registered, said "This is Oklahoma; they'll take care of you," and left again, to go and help rebuild his school. He was right; we will take care of them.

There are two long, red, puffy marks under my right eyebrow. The whole upper eyelid is swollen. All day long at work, caring, compassionate individuals who noticed it asked me "What happened to your eye?" I look like I've been punched, or been in a car wreck, or something. --> It's so embarrassing to admit the truth. :o--> Eyebrow wax gone horribly wrong. Now I know why the instructions said not to wax the same area twice in a row. Okay, it's not much, but at least you might have gotten a vacation from thinking about New Orleans just now, when you were rolling on the floor laughing.
-
Yup. Right after the game, one of the coaches was on a local radio station, and said "we got outplayed, and outcoached. They kicked our butts." Gotta hand it to these guys; they don't believe in excuses.

can't . . . type . . . still in . . . shock . . . shellacked by the Horned Frogs. Oooooh, my head!

Something fun happened last night. Mr. niKa and I went on a movie date, to see Transporter 2. As we were waiting for the film to start, the darkened theater seemed full of very deep voices, going up and down the aisles, greeting one another. "My man, how you doin'?" "Whassup?" and so on. It was really a party atmosphere. During the show, every time something stupidly unbelieveable and completely fun happened onscreen, the theater seemed to erupt with much more boisterousness than usual. After one particularly wild stunt, people were shouting at the screen "NO WAY! THAT WAS WIII-IIIILD, MAN!!!" We didn't think too much of it, because we were having a lot of fun with it, ourselves. Afterwards, Mr. niKa and I went to our separate restrooms, and he had an interesting experience. There were giants in there. Now, Mr. niKa is a tall guy, but these were humongous individuals. He remarked that there was "no volume left in the Men's room." There were dozens of huge guys, and one very well-known coach. Then, I noticed more giants in the lobby. There were also lots of assistants, wearing white shirts monogrammed with the name of my workplace. Two huge busses pulled up out front of the theater, to pick up the giant people. Everybody was laughing, joking, and having a blast. So, I don't know how today's game is going to turn out (it's currently 10 to 10, during the third quarter), but I know which movie the OU football team saw last night. :D-->

Does anybody know how our Corps brother Ronnie Boudin and his family are doing? He was from New Orleans. love, niKa

Now, that's Corps.

I once drank Jack Daniels with Jeff MacTheMarine and Patty S--ican'trememberhterestofherlastname; does that count? Rhino, do you grow grapes? Does that mean that you make wine? This could get interesting; you may have more spiritual potential than you know.

Simon has gone L.E.A.D.; or was that L.I.G.H.T.B.E.A.R.E.R.S.? But he's okay; he's written "The Teacher," and says that he's just taking a little time off. Perhaps when he returns from this Sabbatical, he can expound to us the great truths of the First Church of the Navelites. I know which Bill whereof you speak. Yo, BILL! Glad you're here. It's a joy to have you along. If you go back to read all of the pages, that could perhaps 1) scare you off, 2) take a loooooong time, since we have THE BEST AND WEIRDEST Corps thread on the Cafe, or 3) make you laugh, cry, and think to yourself "Now I remember now how strange these people really are!" You are very, very welcome here at the 9th Corps table at the Greasespot cafe.
