The court documents say the accused's last name is spelled Manetta.

That would make perfect sense... IF... the word(s) they used to indoctrinate (i.e. brainwash, yes that's what it was) actually provided any real hope and/or comfort. But it's ALL BS about being the only ones (household) with the real power of God. We were RIGHT and all other groups were wrong. And since they can falsely claim that glossolalia is a manifestation of God's power working through people, it takes a VERY LONG time to realize the cult is based almost entirely on deception. I left the cult after 12 years. But it took several more years before I realized the problem was far deeper than just a few sinful men misusing the authority given to them by followers. I wasn't freed from the chains in my mind by going to listen to other teachers. For me it began when I started defying Victor's suggestion (mandate) to not read anything other than (his take on what's in...) the bible. That process began in or around 1991 or 1992 when I read a couple of books by M Scott Peck. Anymore, I read more than 50 books/year.

Still, have to pay to get access to the actual complaint. We figured out yesterday that this is now a federal civil suit (personal injury tort). That means NO criminal charges are at issue in this particular lawsuit at this time.
-
Unicourt dot com told me it has a pdf of the complaint but wants $49 to make it available to me. I'm not going to do that.
-
I haven't found a complaint, but have found entries noting the nature of the case is personal injury, suggesting it was first filed in NYS courts, then transferred to SDNY (federal district court for the Southern District of New York. Identification and location of the default (person) defendant apparently took some time. Originally transferred to SDNY in 2020, latest developments seem to be that plaintiff had an attorney quit or be fired and lawyers for twi (probably) exercising stall tactics. I'd love to read the complaint. Pete, if you have any insight on how to find the complaint, please let us know.

Regurgitated bull$hit. Empty platitudes. Yeah, culture has changed dramatically. Society has changed immensely. There is SOOOOOOO much more available to know now than when I was first introduced to twi 48 years ago. Nothing in that trailer/teaser clip is AT ALL different from the script used by the master plagiarist, master prevaricator, and master con artist who said things one way but lived his live according to the sins of his flesh... more than 50 years ago when Victor first recorded the PFLAP class on film after he pilfered from research/work anyone he could find who had a take on bible doctrine he agreed with.

Ah yes, the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation, as we were told was what God wanted for and from us... but it wasn't demonstrated nearly as much as we were led to expect. However, what a wonderful act of kindness and grace that you were able to set the man's mind at some degree of peace.

What was Victor Wierwille's and Loy C Martindale's Achille's heels?
Rocky replied to Rocky's topic in About The Way
I agree. I still struggle with that problem. -
Perhaps the work of Professor Susan David might be helpful to you. From Goodreads: The path to fulfillment, whether at work or at home, is almost never a straight line. Ask anyone who has achieved their biggest goals or who thrives in their relationships, and you’ll hear stories of many unexpected detours along the way. What separates those who rise to these challenges and those who get derailed? The answer is agility—emotional agility. Not from Goodreads, on Saturday, I visited my daughter and grandchildren. In what I attribute both to misunderstanding (on both my daughter's part and mine) and apparent mood issue, I endured a minor face melting from her. I took it in stride and didn't lash out, but it still caused me anxiety which is only today beginning to subside. I hope whatever feelings you endure because of your experience w/Waydale can subside sooner rather than later. Susan David also has a few (at least) videos on YouTube:

TRUTH! Tragically, it was something Vic and Loy and lesser minions/wannabes figured was the will of God. That is how EVIL became a major influence in the unwritten mores of TWI.

That power leads to self-serving impulsivity is a human universal, transcending cultures, codes, religions, and morals. Keltner, Dacher. The Power Paradox (p. 127). Penguin Publishing Group. Kindle Edition. Powerful religious leaders anymore decry the fact that belief in God is severely diminishing. Perhaps THIS is a significant contributing factor. https://www.christianpost.com/news/disturbing-trends-in-americas-belief-in-god.html https://time.com/4283975/god-belief-religion-americans/ https://news.gallup.com/poll/268205/americans-believe-god.aspx -
Maybe. Maybe not. Nevertheless, I and we see you and recognize your concerns. It's just that the multitude of councilors on GSC identify the true source of the cause of your troubles as being not directly caused by Waydale itself.
-
I was NOT at all disagreeing with any of your points/post. There is only one person on this thread thus far misunderstanding the sociological role of Waydale... and it's certainly not you. I edited the post in question to clarify I was referring to Bolshevik, not you.
-
And IMO, they had every right to tell their stories. I was able to visit my grandchildren yesterday. My 9 year old grandson used the expression, "next level technology." I got a kick out of it when he said that. Well, P... A.... used what was, a couple of decades ago, next level technology. A massive amount of good happened as a result of what he did with that technology. I'd be surprised if he had Bolshevik and what happened to him in mind at all when he started Waydale.
-
IOW, you believe you were collateral damage. If so, it seems to be a result of something outside the intentions of Waydale.
-
You haven't made an argument that communicates how Waydale intended to block escape routes or prevented you from building a life separate from twi.
-
You haven't made a case for how Waydale had anything to do with that.

Was victor paul wierwille talented? If so, in what was he talented?
Rocky replied to WordWolf's topic in About The Way
I have friends w/MD degrees who don't insist on being called "doctor." -

Sure, but we're using him as a case study to dissect his anti-social behavior/conduct/exploits/results. -
What was Victor Wierwille's and Loy C Martindale's Achille's heels?
Rocky replied to Rocky's topic in About The Way
Victor didn't teach people HOW to love God. He taught them (us) that if you think you love God, you can do as you fool please, right? Well, wasn't that just a blind man's mask for living life according to your own sinful (lustful, selfish) desires? I'm not so sure "most" people even know what Stoicism is about. But I sure don't look (anymore) on Victor's example as at all worthy of emulation. -
What was Victor Wierwille's and Loy C Martindale's Achille's heels?
Rocky replied to Rocky's topic in About The Way
That's one of the things I have learned from Stoic philosophy. It emphasizes four key virtues: courage, justice, temperance, and wisdom. Clearly, Victor's version of Christianity was centered on himself. I bet you can find those four key virtues in the bible. -

Poignant myth (story). One of Keltner's theses is that power doesn't always or doesn't have to corrupt. But it often does. -

If a supposedly strong...powerful...charismatic cult-leader cannot allow him/herself to be emotionally vulnerable with people, he/she is NOT strong or powerful. Brene Brown's research has documented that reality. Thanks for sharing your insight, T! -
Both of them clearly, emphatically, and repeatedly violated the four Power Principles Prof Dacher Keltner characterized as Abuse of Power. And in so doing, for both of them, it brought about their downfall. Throughout the history of online exposure of the EVILS of The Way International there have been extensive records, FIRST HAND, of abuse suffered/endured by women AND men, especially in Way Corps settings. The records are extensive and, as I said, many are first hand. They can be analyzed in exquisite detail and in doing so VPW and LCM (and lesser minions and wannabes) and instances/details of which illustrate and illuminate said empathy deficits, diminished moral sentiments, self-serving impulsivity, incivility and disrespect and most definitely narratives of exceptionalism. These descriptions were not the exception, but rather, the rule. Otherwise known as features of the system, not incidental or accidental by-products of personal flaws. Not only... But Wierwille dedicated his life to building this exceptionally dysfunctional cult. In doing so, his PRIVATE INTERPRETATION of key scriptures became such a self-justifying rationalization (i.e. lockbox and associated nonsense meant to keep his evil conduct secret) that it became part of the doctrine and/or unwritten code of conduct aka mores throughout. Wierwille lost his influence (power) by dying. Loy's power slipped away due to LIGHT SHINING on his conduct. Waydale and GSC made it so many people could rightly sing: So, I don't know that how "rapidly" they lost their power and influence, but they were most definitely their own worst enemies. Perhaps neither of them had much of a grasp on what Paul meant in 1 Corinthians 9:27, but Keltner certainly has some insight.
