  1. Considering that those things about Ellison's past ties with the Nation of Islam, etc., are not WIDELY known (outside of MN), but the bigotry being aimed at Ellison reaches far beyond MN, I'd have to say I doubt it. Religious bigotry doesn't wait -- until people have done in-depth research -- before rearing its ugly head.

    Fiesta Bowl 2007

Well, as I figured, this 2007 Fiesta Bowl game has become an Instant Classic. However, instead of airing on ESPN Classic, I got it tonight (and tivo'd it) on Fox Sports Net AZ. So, if you want to check it out, look for the FSN regional channel available in your area.
  3. Got a poifect score! But apparently I couldn't copy and paste correctly to get the graphic score box to post here.
  4. Aren't you glad you married a smart gal?
  5. I'd echo several of the well-thought out posts, but am most thankful for the thoughtful and reflective post our new compadre William shared. So, thanks William. I appreciate the quotes from Jefferson. and btw, my own personal view on this subject probably comes pretty close to how MarkO put it for himself (the part before ignoring the new Congressman's "statement"). That guy's statement is quite benign compared to what the Imam's did last month to get themselves tossed off of a US Airways flight. And as to whether I'd "be more comfortable" if there were no Muslims in Congress... I'd rather see more of them. Diversity of thought, or rather TOLERANCE of diversity of thought (and of race, and of gender, and of sexual persuasion) is BETTER for America than homogenized thinking and behavior. And by HOMOGENIZED I do NOT mean making them like HOMOs, and DO mean social mores (unwritten rules) that enforce a lack of tolerance and diversity.
  6. Heh heh! It's a happy Thursday for me too... I just found out I'm going to be saving (as in not incurring costs for) a great deal of my medical costs for 2007... Praise be to the VA.... er, no that's not it... how about, Praise be to Allah... no that can't be it either... oh, well, I'm definitely thankful regardless (or is that IRregardless?... just kidding on the praise part and the IRregardless... but not kidding on the 2007 medical costs).
  7. Hey niKa, Glad you enjoyed the Fiesta Bowl game... even though the outcome had to be a bit disappointing. Didjya get any snow while you were in Tucson? I understand it snowed at least up by Mt Lemmon.
  8. Well, "rocky" = Dangerous Gremlin My real first name comes back as Fabulous Rocket And with various combinations of my name and/or initials, I come up variously with: Cobra Giant General Volcano Smelly Tiger I think I like General Volcano best out of those possibilities....
  9. Heh heh! And Mork from Ork dates back to about when we were first "in res" at the Way College of Euphoria! I remember talking with one gal who was visiting to teach a class that started in with Mork-isms and I didn't have the foggiest idea what she was talking about... little did I know how funny Robin Williams would turn out to be.

    Fiesta Bowl 2007

How about that kid that proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend while on nationwide tv right after that unbelievable ending to the game! Pretty clever... and hopefully he's got someone that tivo'd it... WOWZA's right!
  11. Hey ZSHOT -- Have a good one dude! I'm glad to know ya!

    Fiesta Bowl 2007

With all the respect due to the opponent (Oklahoma -- to which certain GSC folks are loyal) which played a very good game too, How about that Boise State! Anyone see the game? Final score 42-41 I believe... I watched bits of it... and will look to tivo when it's replayed on ESPN (Classic) as an Instant Classic. Talk about ballsy -- a first year head coach and a big bunch of underdogs who refused to lose.
  13. Well, as easy as it is to complain about ticket prices AND the way the Dbacks manage the BOB (which has been pretty lousy since the first year -- 1998), the DO have 2 sections of seats that they sell only on game days (no advance ticket sales) for $1 (one dollar). They are the farthest sections down each baseline in the upper deck. To get a seat for $1, a fan must get in line before the gates open. The box office opens when the gates open for each game (two hours before first pitch). And the seats in the first couple of rows in those sections aren't bad seats. It's a pain in the bee-hind to wait in that line (especially for day games in the middle months of the season... 100+ temps AND no shade), but when the team is playing well, it can be worth it. The line and the B O is on the NE side of the stadium. For evening games, the sun has already made it far enough to the west so that there's at least shade.
  14. And in that regard, it CAN provide some experience at getting along in such a situation that might be helpful to a person when it comes time to choose a mate (hopefully for life). Not only do you learn about a person of the opposite gender -- who is NOT a relative -- but you learn probably not just a little bit about yourself. For the guy (unless he is one of those gay or transexual fellows) it's nearly ALWAYS going to be true that he'll want to engage in some intimate interactive exercise, and SOMETIMES it could be that way for the gal... but it certainly can be beneficial (not that it would always be beneficial) for the guy to learn to live with a situation where he must delay such gratification (you know, for the future, when as a married man he wouldn't be getting it whenever HE wanted it anyway) and to get accustomed to a gal who is capable of maintaining appropriate boundaries... Again, that's just one hypothetical scenario. It could just as easily complicate a lot of issues for both, especially if they don't have what it takes to maintain such boundaries personally.
  15. I'm reading Social Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. I think it's pretty good. I've also gotten some of the insights from books like you named Polar Bear from a group I participate in at the local VA medical center. I've benefitted greatly thus far from those insights. Over the last two years, I've lost more than 60 pounds (and NOT with the help of programs like NutraSystems or Jenny Craig). I've gotten important insights on what works nutrition wise, and I have been doing both aerobic exercise and a regular weight lifting routine.
  16. http://www.springtrainingonline.com/featur...rting_dates.htm The first date posted for Pitchers and catchers to report for spring training is Feb 15 (Cleveland Indians) ... which I believe is 48 days from today...
  17. Good thing most games are televised (at least in the local markets)... I sure can't see my self paying to see very many games. And what, only about 7 weeks until pitchers/catchers report?
  18. Yeah, good quote. tnks. In high school (choir) we did several of the songs from WSS... and it took until just now to really put them in context. The choreography's quaint and the movie is longer than it would be if made today, but it still won awards back then. It's good to expand one's (my) cultural awareness.
  19. Who said... "I feel pretty, oh so pretty..."? ---------- I just got done watching this movie for the FIRST TIME (and it was made oh, about 45 years ago)... Isn't Tivo wunnerful
  20.   :o  Any questions?
  21. So, mates (that Aussie slang is for slipper's benefit), what is the spiritual (or if not spiritual, then cosmic) significance of having seen a car with a twi bumper sticker on it just a few minutes ago? The design was apparently new (well, it's been yeeeaaaars since I've seen one), but the twi logo and the green color were still the same as they were more than 20 years ago. I didn't get close enough, for long enough, to read the motto on it, but the big green block letters which said "The Way" were clear enough. I think it may have said something about building biblical understanding. The gal driving the car pulled into a gas station, but I figured it would be too freaky for me to pull in behind her and start a conversation. I figured that if I did talk to her, it could be a... well, I didn't want to cause her to get "out of fellowship!" Anyway, in the event anyone knows anyone who's in that cult these days in AZ, the gal was African-American, looked to be in late 20s up to possibly 40 years old. This twi siting was in South Scottsdale AZ. It's probably been 10 years since I've seen any twi stickers... Whattaya think?
  22. I guess I don't even know why anyone even gives a spit about any of this. I left twi 20 years ago. It took perhaps another year or two to decide they were all full of beans.
  23. I'd simplify it... it's all just DRIVEL. Good f'ing grief. Yeah, I think JAL long ago lost the ability to find a constructive role in life. Indeed, 20 years later and it's still pretty much the same as the Way Cult was, as far as the interaction of the people involved. And that's an incredibly long time to live while making only small, "tweeking" changes to anything from the prior 20 years. Find a life. Then live it.
