And... before going in res for the 9th, I actually lived in Westwood for about 6months.... Hope you enjoy the coffee here at the cafe.

Hi Karie, Glad you could join us. You pretty much answered your question (highlighted). Though you would want to refrain from using others' real names without their permission. :) A lot of life has happened in the last 25 years or so, eh? Several 9th corpse folks are regulars here, as you've probably figured by now. Wish there were more. Many of us have kids... I have a 17 yo daughter. Say hey to Chuck for us. You don't REALLY believe a professional speechwriter would come up with all the things Bush has said while tripping over the words coming out of his mouth, do you? And the speechwriters don't necessarily prepare text for every time he gets before a microphone or behind a podium... but they DO write the major speeches, radio messages, etc.

You are far more ambitious as a baseball fan than I am... though I DID have season tickets to the Dbacks games in 1998 (inaugural year) that I shared with coworkers. The most exciting things I've done as a fan is go to game one at the BOB for WS 2001... oh, and I went to the victory parade in downtown Phx. But I'm right there with you on Vin Scully. :)

How can you be in two places at once, when your not anywhere at all?

I've heard of 18 year olds RUNNING for school board before... not getting elected however. Similar, but not quite as much of a long shot, I've seen 20somethings win small town mayoral races. A former mayor of Nogales, AZ was just out of college, definitely under 30 when he got elected. He had been in a unique program while at the University of AZ specializing in international studies. Nogales is on the AZ/Mexico border. He did a good job. Most people, rightfully so, would be reluctant to elect an 18 year old to a school board position. It sounds like the community perception of the third candidate as a loose cannon may have put the 18 yo over the top. But since he's been to all the board meetings, if he's paid attention, and if he can intelligently discuss relevant issues, it could be that he's a natural for political involvement. Still, he'll need a (at least one) wise mentor, or he's going to still have a hard time keeping himself above water.

Indeed... and on the Food Channel, just about every use of oil in cooking, except for deep frying, they (practically all of the chefs/cooks) all use EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)... and nutritionists looooooovve EVOO for it being high in monounsaturated fats. My recipe for meatballs -- buy them frozen at Trader Joe's... they have some nice turkey meatballs that heat up quickly in the m/w. But, if I were to actually make them, I'd go with the Progresso (seasoned) Bread Crumbs (my mom used those when I was a kid, I loved 'em) and indeed need to use eggs. :)

Indeed, stRangers' 9-8 victory over the Dbacks must have been an exciting game for Spring Training. Don't forget, as Tom Strange has noted several times, this is the stRangers' year, since Showalter got fired at the end of the 2006 season. Should make for a good year for fans in the D-FW area.

Yep... Dbacks put Stephen Drew on a fast track and he's not disappointed. He's a very talented youngster. Expected to be the starting SS this year from the start. Dbacks have only executed 1 triple play in regular season play. A couple of years ago (I forget which year), the Cards were playing in Phoenix. McGwire hit a fly out to CF. I think it was Finley got an assist on the put out at home... then another runner got caught sleeping on the bases. Not a neat play, but it was a bona fide TP.

That, and let's not forget, CORPORATE GREED! ;) And Ron... I think the heart of the discussion had to do with more urban issues, but what I read in your post is that you put thought into what would be a humane way to deal with what you obviously HAVE TO deal with. That's far different from someone being unable to experience empathy and compassion for a pet that's subject to heat related illness or other confinement abuse and neglect. So, I can't imagine doing anything different than you in what you have with your rural environment.

Control freak lefties? Talk about an oxymoron! Who gave you the idea that rescuing an animal from an abusive/neglect situation would put you in jail? That's insane. The question regarding the issue of refusing to allow breaking of the window to rescue pets is this -- HOW LONG did you have to wait before you got a policeman to pop the lock? IF the dog was suffering heat related illness or distress ALREADY, and you prevented the rescue, and it took more than a minute or two before the cop popped the lock, then you have a SERIOUS deficiency in your capacity for empathy. And THAT is a serious marker for potential abuse in (by) a person -- lack of empathy. FWIW, my daughter (now 17), when she was 13, got suspended from school (only a day or so) for kicking a boy in the nuts. The kid had been teasing her. Needless to say, none of the boys did THAT anymore.

It looks to me like this dicotomy (either animal rights OR human rights) is a false question in this discussion. IF the question is an animal's "rights" to life without abuse/neglect vs. a human's PROPERTY rights, THAT is CRAP. IF the question is an animal's right to be guarded from or rescued from a harmful situation and in doing so a human in put at risk of ILLNESS, INJURY or DEATH, of course the person is the priority. BUT is that REALLY what is at issue in this scenario? I doubt it. IF, as it appears, this debate is over whether the human's property rights are (or are at risk of) being sacrificed to rescue an animal, then to H3LL with the right of the person to have the animal and be "free" to mistreat the animal. I do NOT believe there is anywhere (or should be anywhere) the right of anyone in the US to be free to abuse and neglect an animal, especially a pet. IF the abuse/neglect of a pet or stray animal is being done by a child/teen, then our society demands that child be evaluated for potential to commit violent crimes against other people. Why should that NOT be the case if the perp is an adult?

It seems apparent that duccy was toying with you rottiegrll... I don't know about vigilantyism, but rescuing an abused animal certainly.

I know I couldn't read about that animal abuse... and since it's in a newspaper (that is a newspaper isn't it?), IF a local prosecutor had any inkling about charging her with tresspassing or anything else, I'm confident public outcry would put a stop to it right quick. THAT doesn't mean she would necessarily be immune to a civil suit. I don't know, but a lawyer might be able to shed insight on it further. btw, I AM a dad.

Well, I don't know WHERE you live... all I know about you is what I read here. I hope what you're trying to say is that you believe I am NOT mean... Of course I would never intentionally harm anyone... especially here. Not that there aren't a couple of folks here who like to go back and forth with me (psst, rhino, ron g... you know who you are :P )
