  1. Will that game be televised...nationally?
  2. Great story there Simon. Hiway! I just realized a little while ago that the game you are at (NOW) is the Sunday Night Game of the Week on ESPN. It's also THE Jackie Robinson memorial celebration, or whatever they're calling it. We should have asked where you expect to be sitting! Anyway, the tribute to JR was very classy and very emotional. Not that his was the only voice, but listening to Vin Scully during that tribute, I realized how much his (Vin's) voice is a tonic, or sort of like a medicine to my soul.
  3. Likeaneagle... thanks for posting that link! :)
  4. Well, ya know those chocolate covered "raisins" you bought at the movies the other day... ;) just kidding
  5. Rocky

    Speaking of gas...

Ffffffffft! ( ) btw, P-Mosh is correct... mergers and acquisitions. :) Sudo... if Groucho asks you to pull his finger.... well, nevermind!
  6. Keep us posted! Has there been any print media coverage of this problem?
  7. I'm pretty sure the situation Simon described was a high school varsity baseball game... I believe his son is a HS senior.
  8. That would be the Lysterine brand mouthwash. This item has been marketed as a product to help kids see where they need to do a better job brushing...
  9. Very much so! :) I wouldn't PERSONALLY call him "yummier" or even "yummy"... but he's no doubt always had girls/women get "mushy" with him. I also knew him to have a great degree of personal integrity... And he's obviously been an "adventurer" far more than I ever would consider doing/being.
  10. Yes... he was a L.E.A.D. instructor. he was into rock climbing and had the ropes and caribeeners and things before he went in the corpse... I think he might have been in the 12th... I forget exactly... Just over 26 years ago now... he and I and two others (also in twi) went hiking and camping in the Grand Canyon. It was a great time... The day before we left for that trip, we all went to the Fiesta Bowl to watch Penn St and Ohio St play. Dan is a Penn St alum. I forget who won that game. Anyway, I got to thinking about that trip right about the time of the 25th anniversary of the trip... so, I googled Dan and found him. We've chatted on the phone just a little... He taught 6th grade at a public school in Phoenix before going in res in the way corpse...
  11. Well... obviously I know him... I don't know that he's spent much, if any time here at the cafe, however. One of the review articles on his site talks about how he got the name Ramblin' Dan. I'm the guy that he refers to as the one who first called him that. His music's pretty good... I've got one of his CDs.
  12. So, who won that game? btw, Dbacks, now in the bottom of the 9th, trailing 3-1 against the Reds, scored the second run with a two out double by Chad Tracy. So, tying run is at second.... even if Dbacks lose, they've had a great beginning to the season so far... game over, Reds won... overall a good game anyway.
  13. This evening, I received a note announcing that: This past Feb. the Colbert Report from Comedy Central filmed a sketch at the CT (Connecticut) River Eagle Festival. The piece is set to air Thursday, April 12 at 11:30pm (EDT). A professional/touring Blues guitarist and singer, Dan Stevens was playing at that event, when the Colbert Report taped him. There's always a chance his spot will not air, but the possibility that he will be on it still is good. So, especially if any of you know or knew Rambin' Dan, you might be interested in this. Check the listings... I know that on Dish Network, it's channel 107. Find Dan's web site at: Ramblin' Dan Stevens btw, the note I received was FROM Dan Stevens.
  14. Who of US would know better than Professor niKa, purveyor of the finest in College English?! Certainly NOT me... therefore, "eccentric" MUST be a compliment!
  15. Yeah! What Belle said! And frankly (but don't call me Shirley!), I've missed TomStrange... though I know he's been around a little... he's apparently been pretty busy... but he hasn't needed to announce it to the whole world.
  16. I've seen it before also. And I also remember being at Emporia when Jonestown all went down. I clearly remember Martindale telling us about it and warning that we'd be considered by many people (and he indicated it would be a false image that people would have of us) to be such a cult. The fact of the matter, even though Wrdsandwrks, twi probably was not nearly that evil, the social structures of twi were strikingly parallel to what Jim Jones had set up. AND, over the course of Martindale's "reign" as MOG, that absolutist social structure apparently grew worse than it was when we (those of us who left after the Geer revealed the Passing of the Patriarch document) left. AND the fact that it WAS such an authoritarian "community" means that it could have gotten as bad... for anyone who would have stayed when someone like Martindale (hypothetically) would have snapped as bad as Jones. And from the stories that have emerged over the last ten years (before now), he was likely headed for that kind of mental/emotional breakdown.
  17. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh! THAT's his problem!? I knew it had to be something. If he weren't married to a human female, I say he's f**ing Goofy! (What would Walt think of THAT?)
  18. Interesting player: Micah Owings. He's looking like the real deal. Major league debut this evening in DC. 5 scoreless (one hit) innings in very cold conditions. Keep your eyes open when he faces the Dodger Blue. Your impression of Sedona sounds like you've got it correct. Jerome has a very important thing going for it to discourage resort development: the extremely steep terrain. It's a definitely a pretty interesting place. Did you get any of the stories of haunted hotels/hotel rooms?
  19. The Big Hole in the Ground, eh? Sedona's not that small too... :) Nice time of year to visit up there I bet. Was it very crowded? It seems anymore, and especially on weekends, there's just way too much traffic there. In the 1970s, it was sure nice... went camping and fishing in Oak Creek, just a buddy and me, right before we started our senior year in HS (Aug 1971). We caught several trout... thems was some good eatin! Cubbies playing right now on WGN... looks like they are having their way with the Brewers! Dbacks just finished off the Nationals... rising star rookie pitcher Micah Owings threw 5 scoreless innings of one hit ball for his first big league win. Dbacks now 3-2 on the season... could be better, could be worse. They look pretty good for the most part. Not like very many of you guys care about them anyway.
  20. Yep, that sounds like JD. Another selling point for you to come out here in June... JD practically owns Dbacks pitching. As laid back as the guy is, and though he doesn't seem any more intense against the Dbacks... he's plenty productive. And HIWAY! You've been here in AZ and haven't gotten in touch? I'm shocked! (not really) However, the Dbacks won't be playing their home opener until Monday.
  21. Other than the occasional hairball, (my cat and) I (are) am having no trouble with Friskies and 9 Lives canned cat food, and Chef's Blend dry cat food. I'm most thankful for that fact. And the only table food my cat bugs me about is yogurt. For some reason, he likes yogurt...
  22. I second THAT emotion!
  23. It was a dark and stormy night... um... er... ... is THIS thing ON? I thought I was taught in biology class (the section on reptilian life in the desert) that the correct name for that one-eyed beast is the "one-eyed trouser snake". But I could be confused or mistaken!
  24. And doncha know that a Schilling-Johnson match up is in "the cards" for that weekend!... if both of them are healthy still by then. Dback's won their season opener, first time in five years, they said. I haven't verified it, but they are probably correct. Let me know, mstar, and we'll get SimonZelotes and go see some big time baseball! ---------- Dave, I saw that about Carneal while watching the Mets/Cards game yesterday. 45 years... there must be some serious grieving going on for Twins fans. I'm sorta disappointed that Thom Brenemann, the main Dback's announcer for their first 9 seasons, just up and left. He took a job working Reds games with his dad (in Cincinnati). I can't imagine what loss baseball fans in MN must be feeling. Hopefully, the Twins will have a great season in his honor.
  25. Not me, Jonny Gringo! :P But thanks for the benefit of the doubt.
