Dbacks/Dodgers game wasn't decided until the bottom of the 9th tonight... Hiway29, did you stay for the whole game? Penny pitched a good game... but so did Livan. I'd imagine you enjoyed the game...?

History of the Unassisted Triple Play in MLB This linked page shows: 7 in the American League, the first on July 19, 1909 by Cleveland Indians' SS Neal Ball; the last by Oakland 2B Randy Velarde on May 29, 2000. AND 6 in the National League, the first on October 6, 1923 by Boston Braves SS Ernie Padgett; the last (most recent) on April 29 (Sunday) by Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki. 2 times, the UTP was made by a First Baseman, 8 by Shortstops, and 3 by Second Basemen. In EVERY instance, the defensive player caught a line drive, tagged one runner and one base before the other runner was able to return safely to it. So, since we are relying on the records kept by the Baseball Almanac web site, apparently the history of the UTP began in July 1909, just under 98 years ago.

And it was GS that opened a can of whoop a$$ on the Mavs toward the end of the regular season... right before the Suns did the same thing to the Mavs... But GS ALSO did it to the Suns in the two teams' last match up before the playoffs... that's why I'm not sure the Suns would have it so easy if they end up having to face GS also... (notice, I did NOT say "when"... I HOPE the Suns don't get lazy agin the Lakers). I still won't count the Mavs out until they lose a series, not just a game (or three) ...
-
Yeah... not something one wants to hear about, or have happen. :( How many years are they counting? I don't know when MLB history starts, but didn't the game get "invented" somewhere around 1848? So, what does that do for the price of a Tulowitzski rookie card? Obviously, that kid just stepped into the history books, without even realizing it. So... Hiway29, were you at the Dodgers game tonight?
-
Knowing what the Suns did last year with the Lakers (the SAME deficit the Mavs now have, yet the Suns won the next 3), I STILL can't count the Mavs out, even with a 1-3 deficit.
-
Well... I for one will NOT count the Mavs out until time runs out in the Warriors' win number 4 (in this series anyway)... but there's NO question GS is giving them all the Mavs can handle! 2:33 left in this game, and the Warriors are up by 1... I have to be concerned that even the announcers today on ABC were pronouncing the Lakers dead for the season before then end of today's game 4 (which the Suns won... and now lead 3-1). That makes for bad karma... fortunately, it wasn't anyone associated with the Suns saying that... And both GS and Dallas would give the Suns a tough series... so, I don't have a favorite in the GS/Dallas series. boy those Oakland fans are LOUD!

Fiber's good! :) What had gotten my attention when I first saw this stuff (in the store) was that for a grain, it had so much protein... which makes it, especially for vegetarians and vegans (which I am NOT) especially noteworthy... That glycemic index stuff seems to be pretty significant too.... at least that's what they say on the NutraSystems commercials...
-
Oh, yeahh... since this is the "wild west" gun laws favor those who own/carry... more than likely your CCW would be transferable.

Hey Dot... I RESEMBLE that remark! Really, that's quite a wish list you have. My hunch is there's no place that has ALL of those things (near water pretty much guarantees humidity)... so, perhaps you and your hubby can quantify and put together some kind of weighted average or something. Anyway, Arizona (not to mention Florida) has LOTS of retirement communities (which only have kids/teens as visitors to grandparents, for the most part not very often) which as enclaves generally do a pretty good job of keeping crime outside of the walls... Humidity is very low. But so are wages for most office type jobs (I don't know what kind of work you'd be looking for). Temps are obviously high in the summer, but from fall through spring, weather is usually pretty mild. In the bigger cities, Arizona has high crime rates AND gangs... but the gangs mostly (not always, but mostly) stay in the poorer and/or ethnic areas. I visited the Oregon Coast once... it was beautiful... but it rains A LOT and is VERY humid. so, thar's my nickel's worth (inflation, ya know) of input.

I bought quinoa once, from Trader Joe's. It was in an already prepared frozen dish, so all I had to do was nuke it for a few minutes... It was (and is) my understanding that there's A LOT more nutrition in quinoa than the source Abi cited... I remembered having bought it because when I looked at the nutrition facts on the label, it said it had a pretty substantial amount of protein... so, I checked it out. quinoa, from Whole Foods' web site Quinoa, uncooked In depth nutrient analysis: Quinoa, uncooked (Note: "--" indicates data is unavailable) amount 0.25 cup total weight 42.50 g Basic Componentsnutrientamount%DV calories 158.95 calories from fat 22.19 calories from saturated fat 2.26 protein 5.57 g carbohydrates 29.28 g I had copied a table, but it didn't post correctly, so you can find a more comprehensive profile on the page linked...

New Baseball Drug Bombshell APRIL 27--In a new steroids bombshell, a former New York Mets clubhouse employee has admitted distributing various performance-enhancing drugs to "dozens of current and former Major League Baseball players." Kirk Radomski, 37, pleaded guilty today to distributing anabolic steroids and laundering the proceeds of the illicit business, which operated from his New York home. According to a plea agreement filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose, California, Radomski sold ballplayers anabolic steroids, Human Growth Hormone, and amphetamines from 1995 to December 2005, when his home was raided by federal agents. In the plea agreement, a copy of which you'll find below, Radomski stated that during his prior clubhouse employment he developed "contacts with Major League Baseball players throughout the country to whom I subsequently distributed anabolic steroids and athletic performance-enhancing drugs." Radomski, who worked for the Mets from 1985-1995, added that he "had personal contact with some of my baseball drug clients, but consulted and conducted drug transactions with others over the telephone and the mail." The court filing does not identify any of Radomski's clients. (The court filing is 8 pages)

Even in the event that IS the reason... look at what has taken place regarding breast cancer awareness, prevention, treatment, etc. in the last 20-30 years BECAUSE women got organized so that the problem would no longer be overlooked. And I do have relatives on both the maternal and paternal side (aunts) who have had breast cancer... and one of them died because she didn't get lump(s) examined by physicians until it was way too late... she had known for a long time about the lumps... Anyway, I never will doubt that the world can change because of the actions of a small group of committed (women) people... because (as Margaret Mead observed decades ago) that's the only thing that HAS changed the world! And I've seen (big, societal) change happen before.

Heh heh! Of course, you are a most resourceful youngster! ;) (hey, 50 AIN'T old anymore!)... I don't know if you look at those google ads at the bottom of the page these days... they bring up things relating to words that google "sees" on the page being brought up... anyway, one just now was www.lymphedema-options.com which I figure you've probably already checked into... I love it when someone opens doors so wide for so many (this IS a growing concern, right?)... with the kind of curiosity and persistence you, our own Prof. niKa, are demonstrating! I'm sure we are all most thankful, proud of (etc., etc.) you...
-
That's great news! Thanks for the update... you betcha we'll be praying for our favorite college englich teacher! :) Wrdsandwrks... back several pages (on this thread), niKa shared some of those personal travails with us for prayer and support... if you want to catch up... :) wrdsandwrks... starting at about post #5807, which I think is on page 290

thank you... but the point I had made was NOT with regard to him having proven something outside of this thread and his slanderous comments. He has admitted that he made a comment HERE that he has now NOT been able to document. THAT was the issue. Period. But thanks for keeping track. I have NO need for the last word on Alec Baldwin's obviously bad move made in leaving the recording for his daughter. However, IF you guys want to hold onto your apparent misunderstanding of me having called out someone here for making a slanderous comment, I know I'm not going to be able to change your mind... BTW --- several days ago, I DID research mr eagle's claim. I found that -- quite contrary to the nonsense about Baldwin claiming sex with animals is a good thing -- both he and his ex-wife are widely known to be animal rights advocates.... that is, that he is known to advocate against using animals for medical research. Baldwin known for advocating FOR animal rights

So, is your whining just code for you admit that you spoke out of turn about someone you hold, for political reasons in contempt regardless of his divorce/custody personal transgressions? And my privately messaging you was an attempt to resolve this issue privately, without having to call you out publicly. Obviously, you refused my efforts to do so... your choice. No problem. You definitely have admirers here, who know you in real life. That's wonderful. I hope that you, when you consider slandering people, give pause and think better of it. IF you have something you can document, that is worthy of discussion, please share it. Again... I respect thoughtfulness in people who disagree with me... most notably, MarkO (who started THIS thread, but with whom I've enjoyed several discussions, and not usually agreeing with each other)... and TheEvan... who is clearly a thoughtful reflective, intellectually honest person... with whom I seldom agree, but appreciate his approach... AND I should NOT forget Raf... who I respect tremendously for his professionalism in his profession, which carries over into how he conducts himself here. Now... back to bashing Baldwin... carry on. Dave, I believe Mr. Eagle DID indeed offer his book, or make it known here at GSC... though he didn't mention it on this thread. Are YOU saying HIS book relates to THIS thread somehow? ---------- And Garth... Baldwin and Harrison Ford are indeed very different actors... and I too believe that Ford does a much better Jack Ryan... but Baldwin has his acting strength too...
-
You make a good point, excie... your "what if" question about the mother... it practically goes without saying. A family law attorney recommended this book to me a couple of years ago. It didn't help me accomplish anything in court, but it DID help me understand the dynamics of high-conflict divorce. In the Name of the Child, at amazon.com This linked page includes editorial reviews and excerpts. Key terms in the book that relate directly to the Baldwin-Basinger debacle (for their daughter) include: parental alienation and parental alignment. Some psychologists take parental alienation so far as to call it a syndrome (a diagnosible disorder). THAT part is NOT widely accepted, BUT... this book shows what parental alienation and alignment ARE each as a dynamic in the divorce/family relationships. That's why some people here on this thread have genuine insight... and some are speaking from an intellectual detachment that is also detached from anything relating to genuine experience or academic study. The BOTTOM LINE is that BOTH parents are woefully deficient in their parenting of this particular child, UNquestionably.
-
Thanks for the insight. The statement to which I referred was (is) so outrageous, it demanded attention. IF it is shown to have been true/correct, I will apologize. Otherwise, an intelligent fellow like eagle, whether a talk show host in real life or not, should know that slanderous comments, even if the target never knows they are made, really do NOT demonstrate the intelligence and integrity that he (eagle) is apparently known for. And on the three versions of the truth... though that's really only an expression, there is a kernel of truth to it, and it IS an excellent point.
-
Wouldn't THAT be "hard working" gossip? :P
-
There you go pretending to know what's inside my head AGAIN. If you had INTELLLECTUAL HONESTY, we wouldn't be having to go over this issue AGAIN. IF you find your documentation, I'll respect you a bit more. IF you find your documentation, we'll see -- perhaps from the context -- what it really means... and we'll get to evaluate (not just me... every one who would like to will get to) whether it IS or is NOT relevant to this discussion. Do you make idle gossip on unfounded allegations on your talk show? Do you inform your guests/listeners about what they will or will not like?
-
hmmm... ok, maybe not!
-
Now you want someone ELSE to do research to back up YOUR idiotic claim? That's rich. First, you demonstrate how loose you like to play with facts about people who hold different values than yourself... Then you psychoanalyze ME... then you want OTHERS to help you out of the jam your sloppy writing/conduct gets you in? That's even richer. If you want to prove Alec Baldwin is more "evil" or "sick" than having made a very serious mistake in what SHOULD have been a private situation, then it behooves YOU (not those who might "remember" something for you) to back up your claims. IF you are/were REALLY (any kind of) talk show host, the YOU would know the seriousness of making slanderous/libelous claims. I'm NOT defending what Baldwin DID (that has been documented beyond question). I AM saying that we cannot have any serious discussion if people introduce unrelated, undocumented GOSSIP into it. And let's make sure readers know that the quote, from me, that you cited above, was NOT addressed by me to YOU. Otherwise, one might surmise that I told YOU that you had good insight on this matter. Which I did not.
