We get Yogi-isms fairly regularly here in the desert because his buddy Joe Garagiola Sr. lives here and still fills in for Mark Grace on TV broadcasts when Grace goes on assignment for Saturday Fox broadcasts... Joe's a great story teller. I LOVE that ASTERISK idea! Hey SimonZ... what-a-ya-say we see about doing something like that for the next time the Giants come to town?

Still younger than many of us... btw, during one summer in HS, I worked at a plant nursery store, watering the plants in containers... and delivering pizza (summer before my senior year in HS, 1971)... I have no idea how much I made doing either of those.... and the summer after graduating HS, was a "soda jerk" at a drug store that had a genuine soda fountain counter like in the movies (maybe like American Graffiti?)... but I also delivered Rx's to old folks nearby the drug store...

I had a paper route, age 12-13. My first entrepreneurial venture was around that time... I bought a used lawn mower with my paper route earnings and mowed lawns in the neighborhood... this was in Rochester NY... so, the mowing was definitely seasonal. Did some baby sitting... don't remember when I started, but did so probably until I was 14 or 15. At 16, started working at a fast food place. I think I was making about $1.10/hour - $1.40/hour at a couple of places before going to college and doing some part-time work study job for/at the college. First FULL time job -- age 18. Air Force recruit, basic training, rank -- E-1 (Airman Basic), 1973. Monthly salary -- $307.00/month.

Team IS (singular). The Angels IS one team. They are playing well... good for them. I'll be cheering for the Angels in that "freeway series"! (as if you couldn't guess) ;) But "they are" playing well... isn't the English language a wonderful thing?!

Yes CHEATERS. Endorsed, after the fact, by the NBA commissioner. Tell me that the Spurs championship would NOT mean MORE if the Spurs had won with Diaw and Stoudemire PLAYING the game they had to sit out. That means, NO legitimacy to ANY claim by the spurs, thanks to Cheap Shot Bob WHOREy, to this season's championship... It was WHOREy's CHEATING that destroyed ALL credibility to said claims this year. His action was intentional and it was illegal. And even IF it was NOT the difference in the West final series, we will NEVER know. That's why those who lost the MOST by WHOREy's cheating are WHOREy's teammates.

Yeah... that IS pretty cool when the ump makes that signal that it's a home run... no doubt your little guy is having a great time playing. Now, as to your brothers.... They MUST be Yankers fans... says the desert dweller after the Arizona franchise graciously supplied the "resurgent" (not to be confused with INsurgent) Bronx Bombers with three pretty easy wins.

I'd rather NOT imagine that.... thank you very much. One of my pet peeves is when a female, any age, but I've seen them as young as 12-13 (in public only) and as old as... well, older than me... bending over with their thong underwear showing above the beltline of the pants. It just plain looks disgusting. And NOT the least bit sexy. and Dooj... this is for you, by your request...

Ah, young people... just another example to illustrate the eternal truth that YOUTH is wasted on the YOUNG! btw, I voted for people have a right to dress however they want... but even THAT has limits... Perhaps we should outlaw T-shirts that say MADE IN VAGINA! btw, is THAT the Pepsi Generation?

NO... I mean they CHEAT. The San Antonio Spurs are a despicable disgrace. The ONLY way I would watch ANY of those games in the final is if Robert Whorey were IN the game after having had ALL of his teeth knocked out ON the court during the previous game. There is NOTHING of CHAMPIONship caliber about a team that can only get to the finals by CHEATING. And that cheating was endorsed, after the fact, by the GODDAMNED commissioner of the NBA. HE and THEY are worthless as teats on a boar hog.

Oh? I spent 7 weeks in San Antonio in the summer of 1973, and I'm NOT impressed.... ... especially since the Spurs had to cheat to beat the Suns. This season's Spurs are NOTHING if forced to play clean.

But Tom, that only happens during pitching changes and in between innings. Other things make games take longer. Most often, the pitchers' rhythms. Some times a pitcher will get the ball back from the catcher or umpire and throw the next pitch within 5-10 seconds. But some pitchers take more than half a minute just thinking about it before putting his foot on the rubber to go into his wind up or pitch from the stretch. In a 10 pitch at bat, for example, that might mean a difference of 5 or more minutes per batter. And, of course, some batters work the count more patiently than others. This evening, the Yankee starter had a 6 pitch inning. Why so many first pitch swingers, I don't know.

Well... the Dbacks/Yankers series, set to start a few minutes ago, is off to a rapidly SLOW start... because they did NOT start (it's raining in the Bronx). So, who knows, maybe they'll play a doubleheader tomorrow... or be playing until 4am tonight/tomorrow.
