  1. Good grief, what does Regis know about baseball? Still can't respect the Dbacks, eh Linda? Make sure you don't watch ANY of the ALCS in HD... or you'll be hooked before you know it (unless, of course, the BoSox win that series).
  2. Back in the day... let's see, some 25 years ago, in SoCal... Black's Beach in or near San Diego... I guess it was such "excitement" I don't remember much detail... obviously, went mainly because of the novelty/to observe. But because others were nekkid, I (THEN) had no qualms about "letting it all hang out." As I recall, though I spent several months in SD (working for a now defunct telecommunications provider), I can only remember having gone once.
  3. And even IF ALL of their interviewees gave wrong answers, I SERIOUSLY doubt they chose a representative sample of the population of the US. Is this maybe something from Leno's "streetwalking" or whatever he calls it? OH, I know, he calls it "Jaywalking." (I think)
  4. This scenario most closely approximates my thoughts, feelings and actions on the subject... AND, it's pretty warm here in the desert more often than not... and when it's NOT warm, clothes are needed for OTHER THAN absorbing perspiration. One more caveat... I don't have to deal with perspiration on my whole body, just part of it. I do, however, NOT have to deal with having children in the house... AND, as soon as I come home (or into the house), my shoes come off, but I have to keep the socks on (uncomfortable otherwise). Hey Dan, just remember how old most of us are! btw, I figured out the problem with frying bacon with no shirt on back in the early 1980s... learned by experience!
  5. If the receiver is included, then the new dish will (almost certainly) be included. The dish is pretty much the least expensive component... but there's a part hooked up to the dish that is like a receiver also... but it probably all is included, whether you'll be going with Directv or Dish Network. Yankers are done for the year. I can't imagine you'd want to miss the NLCS and ALCS in HD!
  6. They're probably looking to the fans in Chicago for that inspiration! (i.e. ... there's always next year...) So, when will you have HD?
  7. Make sure you can get TBS in HD! ;) Yes, the Yankers won't go down without a fight... Steinbrenner threatens Torre, but whose idea was it to hire Clemens? What a maroon!
  8. Well, it's probably at least ONE key. I'm sure we go into marriage with unresolved baggage. And likely most of us didn't realize it until it was too late... I know that's the way it was for me.

    The Mom Song

    I certainly can relate!

Is there any other plausible scenario?
  11. Excellent insight Hap. In fact, in those last two regular season games, Melvin put more of the most recently called up rookies in the starting lineups. So, even though the kids played their hearts out (even then), it wasn't necessarily the "A" team at every position or spot in the batting order. Indeed, Clint Hurdle deserves some consideration for M.o.t.y., it REALLY has to be Bob Melvin's already. No question Matt Holiday is league MVP, and Tulowitzki deserves consideration for rookie of the year. But Melvin should get the manager recognition for leading this rag tag group of KIDS that got NO respect from baseball analysts even into last night's game. Anyway, if Melvin doesn't get the accollade, I doubt he'll be overly concerned if the Dbacks win the NLCS and the WS. btw, the Dbacks' payroll also was in the same range this year.
  12. And THIS Rock(y) likes the snakes in 5... However, it IS pretty difficult to count the Rockies out... the HOTTEST team in MLB over the last three weeks.

    Jeff DunHAM

I've seen him on Comedy Central (have already seen this latest special) and on Letterman (ventriloquist weeks). He is definitely funny!
  14. I was only ONE of many who contacted DISH about the problem. I know better than to take credit for this one.... I'd love to think I made a difference, but in this case, if I had been an isolated case, it wouldn't have had any impact. Philips, I think is a good brand... I'd recommend checking Consumer Reports before buying an HDTV... I had been scanning the TVs at both Walmart and Target the last few weeks and noticed that many of the sets smaller than the one you're looking at had max resolution of only 720p... which is NOT HD... in 2005, when I was shopping for mine, those were called ED (not the disorder for which cialis is sometimes prescribed) , but enhanced definition... better than SD (standard), not as good as HD. When I pointed this out to the kid at Target, he acknowledged my point and said they try to carry "affordable" TVs. Which, to me, seems like intentional misleading. But a 47" with 1080p should give you really good performance... you didn't say if it was LCD, plasma or DLP. If I remember correctly, Tom Strange might have a DLP... I don't know anyone with a plasma set. But I like my LCD. I would STRONGLY recommend getting the extended warranty regardless of where you buy and which technology. The "bulb" for an LCD set can cost a couple hundred bucks and they can be fragile... AND... my condolences to Cubbies fans, now grieving another season lost. . . . . . . . . . . however, for everyone else at this point... AND
  15. I don't know who told you he wasn't producing this year, but I've posted within the last few days, probably a couple of times that he HAS been producing... and I've probably seen him more this year than anyone else here at GSC... 'cause Simon doesn't see as many games as I do... I don't know who you'd heard that from but whoever it is is full of s-h-i-t. His play has been key... he platoons with Conor Jackson, and is a switch-hitting pinch-hitter. He's outstanding defensively, and has provided MANY key hits at very important times. see post 2443 posted YESTERDAY. And Tom, I figured you weren't "bad mouthing" Clark. However, that information is just wrong. btw, the reason I popped on here just now was to joyfully announce (no, not that the Dbacks are leading the Cubs at Wrigley, which they ARE doing at the moment) that I got a call from DISH NETWORK letting me know that they NOW have TBS in HD! So, I switched and it WORKS!
  16. You don't have to guess... for two reasons... I was requesting clarification from Tom Strange. I highlighted what I was referring to. Not boring for people from (or cheering) Arizona, Cleveland, Boston and Denver. But still, not as exciting as it could be... and no where near as exciting as the WS were in 2001 and 2004. Of course, rhino, I understand your attempt at humor there by wondering why not just pay someone else to do the playing while the players take advantage of his presence in the locker room... ... but to clarify THAT point, IF Clark is no longer one of the players, his presence/influence in the locker room becomes meaningless...
  17. I have no idea what you mean by that... please explain. Thanks.
  18. You ain't just whistlin' dixie! The Dbacks DO look like they're having fun. Will they have the maturity to see it through? Well, they're not mature enough to "know" they should be scared... and their "chemistry" IS key. A couple of veterans... Tony Clark has been absolutely phenomenal as a platoon first baseman, switch hitting pinch-hitter AND (but not least) as a calming influence as he oozes confidence that the youngsters soak up in barrelfuls. A recent article in the AZ Republic highlighted how he's like a father figure (at age 35) to the kids, many of whom are between 20 and 25. And gold glover Orlando Hudson is like a player coach (though not playing now because of the hand injury). The other key veteran, Eric Byrnes just demonstrates all out hustle all the time. And manager Bob Melvin's supporting cast of coaches help him maintain a stoic appearance because he really doesn't have to fret the details. Bryan Price, the pitching coach, knew most of the pitchers as they were coming up in the team's farm system, as Price also worked in the Dback farm system before making it to Phoenix... and all of you should know what Kirk Gibson can mean to the team. Melvin doesn't have to play the heavy with the kids, as Gibson does. And Gibson TIMES everything, especially the pitchers' deliveries... which gives the team an edge in their baserunning.
  19. Go DBACKS!!!!!!!! In this, the 10th season of the Dbacks' franchise, it was the FIRST season that we've not had to listen to news reports of the woeful financial performance of the business end of the team. This while attendance at home games was lackluster at best (during the regular season). Heck, they even started making a big deal out of setting aside, for charities, $5.00 of every ticket purchased as a walk up (to the box office) I think it was for the month of September. Of course, the ticket prices are STILL much more than double what they were in season one (when I had upper deck season tickets that cost $6.50/seat/game). And there was plenty of grumbling in the community when the team declined to exercise its option to bring (2001 WS game 7 hero) Luis Gonzales (who drove in the winning run with his bloop single off of Mariano Riviera) back to play LF this year (for $10M)... even though Gonzo publicly declared he would be willing to take far less to play here in 2007. And, as Hiway29 knows quite well, Gonzo signed with the Dodgers... and my understanding is that he played well this season. The Dbacks raised a hearty crop of young talent from its farm system coming into this season! And those KIDS have played admirably.
  20. Now LindaZ, that isn't nice at all... since I (and maybe others) are cheering the Indians, you turn around and root for the "bad guys" in the Dbacks' series!
  21. You weren't counting chickens yet, were you? Of course there are some Cub fans at the game... btw, I DID get to watch the FIRST INNING in HD tonight!
  22. You've found some really good insight THIS time!
  23. btw, has anyone else seen the news item that a woman with whom Bonds apparently had a 10 year long affair (that lasted into Bonds second marriage) has told Reuters that Bonds once admitted to her that he had used steroids? The article also said that this woman will be in the Playboy magazine issue due to hit the newsstands this week.
