Joe Scarborough at Huffington Post Florida resident Joe Scarborough talked about Barack Obama's incredible get-out-the-vote initiatives in his home state, replicated nationwide, with David Gregory on election night at 5:30 pm. Quoting a top Republican official in Florida he spoke with last Friday, Scarborough said, "Forget about it. The race is over. Barack Obama won it and he won it early." He added that Obama's 7-week campaign to get-out-the-vote buried any attempts by McCain to win with a 1976-style 72-hour effort. --- Obviously, that's not any kind of official declaration, but it probably won't be long before it becomes official. I concur.

Nov 4 was also the birthday of my friend, the late J Fred Wilson... God rest his soul.

I dunno... that's an intriguing scenario for Manny, with the Angels, but I can see him wanting to stick it to the Red Sox by donning the pinstripes... He'd make NY be laid back... :) You might be onto something there! ! ! MLB IS, after all, AMERICA'S GAME. And if it's good enough for MLB, it should be good enough for the good ol' U S of A, right?

kind of an extended mardi gras... I first learned about this while watching Cold Case on CBS a year or so ago...
-
Yeah... and after you DISSed me in the politics forum this morning! :)
-
With regular/frequent lessons from our resident umpire, we might get there! :)
-
Yeah... Bud earns that. Who better to give it to him, eh? And depending on what day pitchers and catchers report, it's roughly 110 days until mid-February 2009.
-
I agree wit you on those two points! It is FINISHED. The 2008 MLB season is HISTORY. How many days until pitchers and catchers report?
-
mid 80s here as I type this... and I don't get the "pep talk" until 7pm mountain time... about an hour and a half from now...

If I did THAT, I'd have to remove the strikethrough from the word "about." Which would, in no way, be demeaning to Simon. Apparently, they are going to attempt to finish game 5 tonight.
-
If you think Simon's been hiding that he's a smart person, I would disagree... he doesn't hide it, but he doesn't go out of his way to disclose it either... He's about the smartest non-college (other than the Way College) educated guy I know.

Well, Mstar... you'd be surprised at how many people have DVRs these days... your concern about the next generation would be valid IF there was no such thing as the DVR...

Snowing?!? Heck, my a/c just came on.

I spoke with him the other day... he's alive and well and enjoying the weather now that we're finally no longer getting high temps exceeding 100 degrees (F). I think the time reference Mr. Strange made was about the Texas BBQ...

Now I thought that the batter could only take first (in the event he is not thrown out at first) IF the base was OPEN to begin with... IF that IS still true, then it shouldn't matter what happens to the ball when it gets thrown to first base. In which case, the batter is out, and the game is over. Home team loses. However, IF the batter actually does get to run, he obviously did not get thrown out, the two runs score and the home team wins. Of course, I may be wrong. I don't get so worked up any more. I'm obviously still interested and therefore involved in the forum, but it doesn't matter to me if anyone disagrees or agrees with me. However, I might have issues to deal with once the results are known after the election. :) Buck/McCarver said it was changed -- regarding the WS (and maybe other playoff games) only last winter. So, if this had happened in any prior WS, the resolution would have been different.
-
I kept thinking they can't END the WS with a rain shortened 2-1 game. It was raining pretty steady and I think Buck/McCarver said it was 39 degrees (F). That's just plain miserable. So, once they finished the half inning after Upton scored the tying run, they did the only thing they could. So, I guess we'll find out when the game resumes... when they resume the game.
-
I'm pretty sure he's not still there... I understand he's in touch with people who come to the cafe here...
-
The solution to your problem -- Tivo (aka DVR). It was a very good game.
-
Yeah it was definitely an unorthodox infield alignment... didn't work, but once they got a guy on third with no outs, the game was all but over... so it was certainly worth a try. I liked it, even though it didn't work.
-
Don't forget that Grandpa is still younger than you (or me)! And yes, I'm thinking that Upton kid is pretty good... got some awesome wheels.
