hmm-Steel Magnolias?
-
Thanks for the dancing Stan and Ollie, Kathy. In my spare time I'm a member of the 'Sons of the Desert", the laurel and hardy appreciation society 'organized' by Stan and recently deceased author John Mccabe in the early 60's. Basically it's an excuse to get together and watch old L&H and other Hal Roach films. They have 'tents' all over the world , all named after L&H films. Here in LA it's the 'Way Out West' tent, and over the years, Dick Van Dyke, Chuck McCann, Orson bean and others have been members. It's actually in my spare spare time, since they meet about 5 times a year and I make it to maybe 2 of them. Sudo, I hear that theme all the time and can't place it! I wonder why you think of the 3 Stooges , unless it's the current theme for Columbia pictures, where the Stooges made their shorts. Marlo is 68??! yikes Well, not only am I old , but I saw her on tv not long ago and still think she's hot, so I guess I'm officially old.I would have guessed 61 or 62 at best. That means she was 'That Girl' when she was 30, playing a young actress just starting out.

Well, it was good for the hair spray business since it seemed to take tons of the stuff to keep the helmet intact. I didn't mean to imply that it was unattractive though. Marlo Thomas always looked good(at least after her nose job-I've seen pictures of her where she was sporting Danny Thomas' nose), and I'm sure you were lovely on your wedding day, helmet hair and all. How did you get the dress over the hair though?

16 years of going to twig once a week? I don't know where you come from, but in my neck of the way woods that's almost inconceivable. For most, (or almost all) so called 'committed believers', life was a calendar jammed with twig meetings, leaders meetings, classes, witnessing nights, various and sundry responsibilities , and any other 'necessary' off the cuff meeting or reproof session that might arise. If you maintained a distance from all that, it explains alot of why you're unable to comprehend the depth of abuse and control that they inflicted on a daily basis.

They don't write theme songs like that anymore. Gave me nice warm fuzzies inside hearing it, especially appreciated the never heard second verse.

the helmet hair, the famous 'real life' father, a pre 'love boat' Bernie Kopell, and the boyfriend played by the underrated Ted Bessell, who left us too soon. Who woulda thunk she'd end up marrying Phil Donahue. Just saw her on tv recently and she still looks great-better without the helmet hair.

The elusive tv theme is bugging me. My first thought was' Emergency', but I don't think that's right.
-
Thanks for that link Cowgirl-it's stuff like that what makes the internet worthwhile.

aha-another clue just gelled as I should have been working-the theme song about the Creek. I don't think I ever lasted 5 minutes past the opening, but I remember they used that song.
-
On the last clue, I preferred the star of the show when she was Gidget, wearing bathing suits instead of habits with ridiculous headgear. Alice was a show I hated but watched anyway, perhaps because back then even mediocre sitcoms made for good time fillers. I'm not certain about the other clues, tho I'm certain that the answers are lodged in my consciousness somewhere. I have to get to work and my brain hurts.

I love West Side Story. I was never wild about Richard Beymer as Tony, though. He didn't seem like he could EVER have been a gang leader. His counterpart George Chakiris however, was just fine. One day in the way, I watched the movie on tv with a friend. He usually only watched action movies, and commented at the end that it was a good movie except for the singing and dancing.

The male lead in that movie was bald before bald was 'in'. I first heard that song at a high school 'production' of the play when I was 8 or 9. I loved the song and was smitten with the girl who sang it. Speaking of high school productions, here's an off topic memory. My family always took long vacations in the summer, cross country to California one year, Europe one year, and several trips to Canada or Florida. One night when I was around 9, my mother was on the phone and asked me if I wanted to go to Oklahoma. Well sure. What I didn't know was that she meant the play Oklahoma at the local high school, and I couldn't get out of it after I 'committed' myself. I remember wondering if I was dumb, or if my mother wasn't 'lame' for expecting to know it was a play. Fortunately, I enjoyed myself and was humming 'Oh What a Beautiful Morning' for days. It's easy to see why one would think that is Julie Andrews, though it's not.

Relating it to "All in the Family" would be closer, since the characters originated there.
-
I love the Derek and The Dominoes 'Layla'. The slow, mellow version Clapton did later gives me hives. I'm also haven't figured out the movie.
-
er...anyone seen any good movies lately ?

That's great that they footed the bill for your wisdom teeth. I cannot imagine that ever happening on the wow field. You were expected to take care of all that before you signed up.
-
If you weren't 'working for the ministry' and they weren't 'compelling' you to do anything, then the wow 'guidelines' would have been suggestions not rules. You could only work part time. You could not leave the town. You were expected to witness 8 hours a day, and be at every meeting and event, and do anything else they decided to have you do. There were no optional choices. Noone expected the way to provide medical insurance anyway. Since most of us were young and inexperienced, we never had much need for medical assistance , and those that did were branded with the scarlet (or way green) letter, as not believing, weak, possessed. They would have done it if it were less expensive??!!!!???? Please-I know you know better than that! Ever try going to a'higher up' when you were sick? That's a real 'blessing'. After being grilled about one's un belief, the 'leader' often as not would use that as a reason to dissect all your faults and spiritual problems, with a word of warning about how you're screwing up the wow family . If you were real lucky, he'd throw you a 'healing' then expect you to shut up about it from then on.

This is a stab in the dark and most likely wrong-but I'll guess Vanilla Fudge.
-
That show was a real drag.
-
The only problem with the studio theme is that the name of the studio is , shall we say, dated.
-
Ok I'll say it. The revelation was bogus.

The movie is indeed 'Darby O'Gill and the Little People', and a fine film it is. I was blown away with it as a kid, and used to wonder if I would still like it as an adult. Let's face it, when you're 7 years old, your taste in entertainment is not all that discriminating. I watched it again a couple of years ago, and was amazed at how entertaining it still was, and that it still holds up. It has all the 'magic' of a Disney film, yet is free of the 'cuteness, or 'childishness' for want of a better word, of alot of the later Disney live action films. I don't know if Connery is wearing a toupee or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. I know he did for the James Bond films a few years later. I guess I aways assume Connery and William Shatner are sporting a piece, even in their younger days.
-
"Search for Red October"! No I was referring to the movie pictured above, featuring Janet Munro, and the fellow in the toupee-tho he wasn't the star-he'd actually be billed around 4th.
-
That's Janet Munro, who was also in Swiss Family Robinson among others. I've never thought of the film in question as being that unknown but maybe it is. If you've never seen it, it's one heck of a good movie to rent. One of these years I gotta make it to a weenie roast!!

I don't want to give it away, but that song is from a movie that has been mentioned in recent days here. A movie that I really, really like, and still get goosebumps whenever I hear that theme, which is used throughout the movie.
