Thanks for the correction.

hmm I thought that was the legendary Russell S*n*or, not Coleman. Leastways that's the way I heard it. One of the momentous moments of my early way life was dodging cars outside of Russel S's house with Bob C*rd*n, and lurking in the bushes. Russel had been nabbed by the deprogrammers, and somehow I wound up doing spy duty. I hadn't even had the class as yet, but since all the leaders were in a state meeting they gave me the opportunity to play spy. I don't mean to make light of it. It was freaky to me that such things were going on, and I did take it seriously. I also dug diving into the bushes when we saw headlights.

My favorite Chipmunk song was 'the Witch Doctor' oo-ee-oo-ah-ah-ting-tang-walla-walla-bing-bang

I see Bill Mueller to the Dodgers is not a done deal, and that the Pirates are offering him a better deal. The Dodgers did pick up Sandy Alomar Jr as a back up catcher-He's only 39 years old, and they needed another catcher with bad knees who can't throw anyone out.

That's one of my favorite Christmas songs, wasway. Thanks for the cudos, Sudo. I can be completely befuddled when I don't know an answer though.I admit it is fun to have an outlet for all this mishmash of useless knowledge .Just don't ask me to hook up an entertainment system or fix a car, or anything that's really useful.

My memories of the' Take a Stand caravan'- I was in Connecticut at the time, running the state bookstore, for some forgotten reason. That meant I was responsible to go anywhere in the state at any time, to set up a bookstore for classes , meeting or whatever. This required me to drive 40 minutes to the limb hq after work, load up my car, drive to wherever, do the store, drive back to limb, re stock the shelves, do the paperwork and money, then drive home and collapse before getting up in a few hours to my dead end doorknob factory job. but I digress Since I was bookstore guy, I was given the 'Take a Stand ' albums to sell. I forget the specific instruction , but St*v* Str*ep*K, the limb leader of CT, gave me orders on how to set up,promote, and sell them. About an hour later V*nc* F*nn*g*n comes by, and demands to know what I'm doing. I tell him I'm doing what Str*z instructed, and he yells, 'never mind what he said, don't do that do this'! Then he gave me a look of such hatred and anger that I still curdle at the memory of it. Not that it needs saying, but in my neck of way world, an order from the limb leader was the same as an order from God-so I was just a little conflicted. I could just imagine the dressing down I'd be getting from Str*z, but since F*nn*g*n was the head honcho for the caravan I followed orders. it was such a great night. Oh, and we brought a 'new person' from Twig. The week before she was listening to a Takit album and thought they were great. Then someone in twig said, there was a great concert next week, and she should go-not telling her that takit wasn't going to be there. I recall cringing and thinking this is not going to be good, but one did not get in the way of bringing people to the class back then. As expected, she was incensed. Instead of Takit, she saw Claudette Royale in a cheerleaders outfit, and a heavy pfal push. She felt she had been misled and lied to and was never seen again. "We're on God's Team', didn't sound so good to me that night.

I'm scratching my head as to who wrote it. Kathy's guess of Desi Arnaz is a good one, especially with the latin flavor of the song, and Desi's involvement with television. I don't think it was him, however, as the comic styling of the song is different than anything else he did. I will be proud of Kathy if she turns out to be right though. Stan Freberg immediately comes to mind, as he was the 50's leading satirist of popular culture(along with Mad magazine, before it became more juvenile). I've never heard it before, but I'm going to say it was Freberg for want of a better name.

Well, now I have a reason to go to Dodger Stadium besides Dodger Dogs and swiftly eroding ambience. Bill Mueller is the type of player that will elevate the Dodgers, and I am quite happy to welcome him.

It's difficult to pinpoint an exact year, since most of the references are somewhat general in time. Disney and Ed Sullivan spanned decades. Wrestling was popular on TV in the early 50's, but has never really left, unfortunately. Elvis probably refers to the incident on Ed Sullivan where they only filmed him above the waist so as not to corrupt America with his wiggling hips. That was in 55 or 56, but became a timeless reference, like the Beatles on Sullivan. Wyatt Earp was on tv from '55, to the early 60's, and the Mickey Mouse Club stopped airing new shows around '58, tho they were in constant reruns for years. I'm going to say 1957, but not with any certainty. Come back as soon as you can, Sudo.

Thank you Belle.I've learned many of the same things, but would not be able to express them so concisely, and powerfully.

Bill Muellar sounds almost too good to be true for the Dodgers, who specialize in getting the wrong player at the wrong time. Derek Lowe is a pitcher I want to get begind, as he has periods of brilliance, but always manages to lose focus, as you said.
-
I just read that Soriano is going to the Nationals, so there goes that possibility. Dodger owner Frank McCourt is still working to create a bizarro world version of the Red Sox. I think Bill Muellar will wind up here, and there's interest in David Wells. There's speculation of a deal for Manny even, but I cannot imagine that happening. Manny to the Angels is more probable if he goes anywhere. My long shot move is Nomar on the Dodgers-which will prove to be as effective as last year's J D Drew signing.

Grady Little. No, I'm not thrilled about Grady Little, but admittedly don't know much about home, except that I thanked him for leaving Pedro in too long in that playoff game a couple years ago. I really don't know his style or personality, but based on mstar's report, I think we're in for some 'fun'. People like Plashke are saying that he got a bum rap in Boston for that one move. They say that Sox fans are bitter and would also say Bill Buckner sucked. I'm thinking mstar knows what he's talking about. I was releaved they didn't choose Jim Fregosi though. The Dodgers will be different if nothing else next year. They just made a deal for Furcal from Atlanta. I guess they couldn't wait for Ceaser Isturis to get off the dl. Isturis is one of their few great strengths at shortstop, now they'll want him to move to second. In order to do that jeff kent will have to move to first. I don't think they discussed it with either player, and if kent doesn't like it, it's going to get ugly. At least Furcal has a history of dui's and bad attitude, so he'll fit in with Milton Bradley here. Apparently Bill Mueller (SIC?) likes grady, so the Didgers may pick him up at third, which would be a vast improvement from last year. There's also talk of Soriano from the sTrangers coming, but I'll believe that when I see it. Where they play him is anyones guess, but it's looking more like Cesar isturis won't have a position when he gets back. Another Marlins firesale. The Mets and Sox jumped all over that. Paul Loduca is following in the Mike Piazza tradition of being wrongly traded by the Dodgers to the marlins, then going to the mets.

is it'Walking in a Winter Wonderland"? I doubt it-but ya gotta start guessing somewhere

Sudo's music is 'The Nightmare before Christmas" I think Kathy just played the theme from a show that was on tv for 14 years! and on radio before that! It gets a lot of flack for alot of reasons, but for me I watched it every week, year in and year out. It was almost surrealistic in it's pacing and delivery. Like a tranquilizer almost. No one ever raised their voice, or moved quickly. They were called 'adventures'-which might be the funniest thing about it. I saw an old episode not long ago where they spent 10 minutes debating the merits of pancake mix over homemade pancakes. Some adventure. I'm happy to say it had the same tranquilizing effect I fondly remembered, putting me in a nice ,relaxed ,comatose state. Kathy's clue is a little misleading only in that it crosses generations. And-I DO know what he did for a living-though admittedly it is hard to tell. Oh-and I didn't get Miracle on 34th street by Raf's solving it-I did it all with my own little pea brain.Raf seems to be the king of this though. And I love the Alvin Show. The real one from 1961-Not those imposters from the 80's and 90's.

MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET ! I don't have time to conjure up a new game at the moment tho. for those still wondering- MIRROr Bill CULlen DIRTY FORTh TREAT

I'm willing to concede the win to bowtie, though I didn't get the answer from her clues. I'm not sure how I got it, really, tho the bottle and the can fit when it came to me. Anyway, have a coke on me, bowtie-preferably in the old 8 ounce green bottle.

Is it the Coke commercial? 'I'd like to buy the world a coke..."

George- My apologies. I did get your pm and managed to space on it over Thanksgiving. I believe the person in question is still at the same place. At least she was last I knew. She doesn't know me but I certainly know of her, as she's been there for ages. I'll try to get you a contact number and pm you-if I can figure out how pm's work. If I space again please bop me upside the head. My only weakness is forgetfulness.

Alot goes on in here when you're away for a day or two. I don't know the movie theme. Kathy's tv theme is so familiar I'm surprised anyone doesn't know it. The most famous 'profile' in tv history. Maybe I'm older than I thought. :(
-
Kathy, I can tell you without naming the show, that it was the one armed man, and that it all came to a head on top of a water tower of all places.

That was a good show, and I remember the night they showed the last episode, resolving the whole thing. That was rare in those days, mainly because they never knew if a show was going to be picked up for another season, until they had finished filming the previous season. In this case, they made a decision to end the still popular show, and thankfully brought it to a conclusion. In retrospect, I think the move to color from Black and white diminished the last season. It went from distinctively moody, 'film noir', to looking like any other drama series, but that's just my 2 cents. I've always liked the Mad magazine parody, where it turns out he really DID it. THAT would have been some last episode. The film version with Harrison Ford was pretty darn good, too.

Maybe I'm a bitter, old ,unbelieving curmudgeon, but I don't think the gobbledyguck we all spoke in the way was proof of anything except our willingness to follow directions. Certainly not 'proof' of being saved.

ah-if it's edelweiss it's gotta be the 'Sound of Music" I admit I wouldn't have known an edelweiss from a petunia, though.
