  1. Thanks Kathy. that was a very cool link.
  2. I'm not sure how that truck relates to the studio, but it is sure one cool picture. I'm curious what Kathy's connection is. Since I'm pretty sure almost everyone knows the studio in question, let's cut to the chase and tell us about that picture, already.
  3. moony, I'm 52 (gulp) But the movie I'm referring to is not part of the series. I'm referring to the music clip that sudo posted, right before it, which featured the actor before that series. whew, this is getting complicated.
  4. That last movie is also a favorite of mine. I saw it when I was 7, and it scared the wits out of me. I was totally creeped out by the 'death coach'. And the image of the lead character, being driven away, looking back at his house in the rain, stayed with me for years. With all that, the movie is uplifting and maybe the best live action film from the rat factory. I watched it again not long ago, and was pleasantly surprised that it held up.
  5. The Bosox just picked up Hee Seop Choi. Thank you, Boston! I wonder if the Fenway Faithful will be chanting HEE SEOP CHOI like a drumbeat everytime he comes to bat like Dodger fan did. Somehow I doubt it. As T J Simers said in mid season last year, imagine how crazy the crowd would be if he ever hit as high as .250! I'm happy to have Nomar at first base, and pulling for a 'comeback player' of the year from him, rather than sporadic hit, no field ,Choi.
  6. Does anyone know about Susie's sister, Cathy ?

    Who Would Play You?

    Jason Alexander (sigh)
  8. I've never heard that song before either.
  9. "fair and balanced' sounds too much like the anything but Fox news. Please, any comparison than that.
  10. with sudo winging his way to california, is the nostalgia thread doomed to be pushed to the bottom of the pile, beneath the puzzles and tv reviews? Will sudo return only to find his baby perhaps even banished to (gulp) page 2. We, the stewards of the nostalgia mystery must not let it die within one generation.
  11. Hearst castle is about 4 hours north of LA, so unless you're factoring a trip up the coast, it's out of range probably. For the best view of LA that I know of, and get a good hike in to boot, there's Runyan Park, off of Mulholland Drive. It's one of the few places where one can unleash their dog, so there are many dogs and their owners hiking. At the summit there is an overlook that encompasses all of LA from the Hollywood sign, to the ocean. If you're in downtown LA , and want to eat , the legendary Filipe's is near the train station, great beef sandwiches and other deli stuff. Just south and west of Hollywood is Pink's-LA's most reknowned hot dog stand , and most likely place to find a 'celebrity' stopping off, if that kind of thing interests you.
  12. If you want something REALLY offbeat-try the 'Museum of Jurassic Technology" on Venice Blvd in Culver City. Don't have the address but you can google it. You also have to look sharp cause it's an unassuming place and you have to ring the bell. If youre in that area give it a try
  13. Vic Morrow was indeed beheaded, as horrifying an end as one can imagine. The other WW11 show sudo is thinking of may be 'The Rat Patrol'-which did not interest me at all. Either that or 'Hogans Heroes' :)
  14. That was a great show- I remember it originally was on Tuesday night before McHales Navy of all things. One would have thought the dopey sitcom would have the earlier time slot, but what do I know.
  15. I agree that seeing as much of the 'non touristy' stuff is where it's at. However, for someone who has never ridden on 'Pirates of the Caribbean' before, it can be quite an eye opener. Santa Monica Pier is as much a tourist trap as Disneylans in it's way, but is worth seeing. There is an amazing art exhibit taking place right now near the pier called 'ashes and snow', that is worth a look. Head south for a couple of miles and walk the Venice beach Boardwalk. It may be the single most melding of the most beautiful to most desperate people I've ever see. Perfect bodies working out at Muscle Beach, rich tourists taking it all in, and the saddest homeless population ever, amid a riot of t shirt shops, tattoo parlors, and Jodi Maronis-the best sausage sandwich on earth. Head north and have dinner at Gladstones-a great seafood restaurant on the beach at Malibu. If it's stil daylight, turn up Topanga canyon and 'cut through' the canyon to the San Fernando valley befor picking up the 101 back south. Topanga canyon is lot in time, with strange little shops , theater productions, and a population that still thinks it's 1969. There's a ton of stuff to fo beyond the theme parks, and I'll throw some more suggestions your way before you leave, but I still think Disneyland is well worth it. I first was there when i was 8 years old as part of a cross country trip, and to an 8 year old who only knew it from tv, it was amazing to me, and was as important as the grand Canyon and every other cool place we saw.
  16. sudo, if you're asking me what movie studios I'd recommend to see while you're in LA, unfortunately your choices are limited unless there are tours . Universal Studios however, has built a theme park around their tour. It's actually a pretty neat tour, taking you by iconic sets like the 'Psycho' house, 'Leave it to Beaver's' house, and the village sets from the Frankenstein movies. The rides aren't bad there either if you're not Disneylanded out by then. I don't know how old your kids are, but 'Legoland' is pretty cool. Here's a couple of Disneyland tips since I'm thinking of it. If you go on a weekday, you'll avoid some monstrous weekend crowds. Also the earlier you go the better. It opens at 8 I think and for a few hours the lines to the major rides are short. They also have a 'fastpass' service now that helps you avoid lines, but you can only use it for one ride at a time. You'll figure that out quick enough.
  17. Is that nostalgia for 70's disco dancing Kathy?
  18. All those old soap opera organ themes sound alike to me-I'll take a stab at 'the edge of night' though. Do soap operas still use those organs? I saw Angela Cartwright once at her store, but didn't pester her for an autograph. I've gone to a few 'nostalgia shows' in the area where actors from old shows would sign pictures for 5 or 10 bucks. I've seen most of the Lost in Space group on a few occasions. Those events are really ultimate geek city, which I fit right in with, apparently. Have fun at Disneyland, Sudo!! For you I recommend the Indiana Jones ride, and 'Soaring over California" at California Adventure right next door. You may as well take in both parks while you're there, though California Adventure is nothing compared to Disneyland. You ARE going to DisneyLAND, not DisneyWORLD, right?
  19. I've never sat though that movie, but now I'm curious. I wasn't crazy about the tv show, but I realized even then that tv series based on movies pale in comparison. The 'exception that proves the rule' is probably MASH, which was great until it suffered hardening of the arteries.
  20. Kathy's theme was from a show that starred Hope Lange, based on the movie starring Gene Tierney. "Make Room for Daddy" didn't pretend the second wife was the same person, like the second Darrin. Jean Hagen, the first wife, I THINK passed away in real life, and there was a short period of time before Marjorie Lord became the second wife, bringing Angela Cartwright with her. Angela runs a gift shop in Burbank, CA called Rubber Boots, which I used to live right down the street from. She still looks like Angela Cartwright, or maybe like Angela's mom, which is fine since I look like my dad now. Speaking of 'Lost in Space'-the actress with the real fountain of youth is Marta Kristen who played Judy. She looks better know than she did back then. The same can't be said for Bill Mumy though.
  21. The girl singing was on the Donna Reed show. She left the show before it was over and went on to appear in Elvis movies, teen movies, and much later on-'Coach'. When she was a teen, I thought she and Elinor Donahue must have gone to the same school for snobby girls. I didn't think it necessary to name the Mystery Movie theme, since I had already referred to it before it was posted. Sometimes one needs to get things straight around here 'for the record'.
  22. I liked the overall theme to the Mystery Movies, and somehow forgot the McCloud theme-though the image of McCloud riding the horse down the busy city street sticks with me. Mystery Movies was an interesting concept where they took 3 series and rotated them. I can't recall what the other shows were at the moment.
  23. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JARD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
