my favorite Dennis Weaver role was as Chester on Gunsmoke. I was way beyond a teenager when that second show aired. But then I've been way beyond a teenager for a long time.

I forgot about what happened to his son. I pass the spot where it happened all the time. I've heard other items of 'infedelity' thrown at him, but usually don't care or pay attention to that stuff, unless it concerns cult leaders that have directly impacted my life.

Were they always playing tennis or does it just seem that way?I was a big fan of the 'comedian' on that show and his records back then. I still respect him though he's turned into a bit of a 'curmedgeon' over time. But then haven't we all?

are you referring to Mrs Beasley, Kathy?

I assumed eagle was talking about after pop. The year and change between vp's death and pop was uneventful. The whole joint was a mess but most people were gamely hanging on, if only to prove that the way wasn't built on a man. Pop blew it all up, but that wasn't until just before roa'86. That was a weird time. It had all just been dumped on the corps, and noone knew what to tell the masses as they arrived in Ohio. The next phase was the so called 'fog years', which lasted until craig wrote his famous commitment letter, which pretty much cleared out anyone who was still hoping it could change.

My experience is similar to Rum Runners. I still had some contact with way people til 89' or so. I don't think I heard one thing about the way in the 90's as I rebuilt, really built for the first time, my life. I come here for the people and to share experiences. I could care less about doctrinal issues. The years completely apart from any way influence were the most productive -and critical-times of my life until now. I am so thankful I did not have to deal with devastating crises like death and personal surgeries, with the way looking over my shoulder. It would only have made things worse.I will always be thankful for the strength and growth I gained from overcoming adversities on my own. I've been able to actually carve out a career doing something I love . I HAD to get away from the way to make that happen. It really was like getting set free from a cage.

'He and She' was a terrific 'one season wonder', starring Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss. It was a cut above the usual sit com fare. It also featured Jack Cassidy as a 'foppish' (for want of a better word) character that is kind of set the pattern for Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore show.

Barefoot in the Park, and Love On a Rooftop, both were about young couples just starting out, living in NY apartment buildings. Beyond that, I don't know of any corellations. 'Rooftop', came after the Broadway play , 'Barefoot', by Neil Simon (tho I'm not sure if the movie had been made yet). I think it's safe to say that 'Rooftop' was inspired by the very successful play.

I remember being really bummed when Pete Deuel killed himself. He was just beginning to come into his own, on a pretty cool series, that he and his chemistry with Ben Murphy made better. Before that he had been on a sit com with Judy Carne called 'Love on a Rooftop', and before that as Gidget's stuffy brother in law. Being replaced by Roger Davis in the same role was eerily similar to Dick York replaced by Dick Sargent on Bewitched. Pete Deuel and Dick York had similar looks and attitudes. They were both replaced by actors that look KIND OF like them, but lacking their distinctive qualities. Dick Sargeant was Dick York lite, and Roger Davis was Pete Deuel lite.

Kathy-at least I wasn't talking about his politics. It's a good thing for us men that women are able to look beyond appearances, or most of us would be in sad shape.
-
Even with the Daisy Dukes, I couldn't stomach that show, and no way would go see the movie. George Bush missed his calling in life though-he'd have been perfect as the sheriff-no, the dumb deputy-on it.

my God, like an eagle....just when I think I've heard it all !!! I was going to comment on it, but find I'm speechless.

That movie IS 'Easter Parade', right? I don't care for most Judy Garland movies as a whole, though she has some memorable songs. I always get misty over 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" from "Meet me in St Louis", but I can't sit through the movie. I haven't seen "Easter Parade" in forever, but I suspect the songs are the highlights.

In '85 at an 'open' meeting at HQ, Craig yelled about reading newspapers, and told everyone that we didn't need them and that HE would tell us what to think. And he wasn't joking.

yes-King Kong was an RKO Radio Picture.
-
The RKO antenna brings to mind the original (and ONLY imo ) King Kong. I always liked the 'RKO Radio Picture' title with the giant antenna. I used to wonder what the heck is a 'radio picture'? The one studio title that I may have liked better was the OLD Universal title, with the airplane circling the globe.

I never heard that parody either. It's curious that the only other 'hit' the Troggs had that I know of is the wimpy 'Love is all around"-a far cry from 'wild thing" There's a hilarious cd out called "celebrities at their worst', that captures moments like a drunken John Wayne speaking to college students, old Colonel Sanders not being able to get through a commercial for his chicken, and Orson Welles ranting while taping commercials. One extended piece has the Troggs in a recording session, unable to get it together, and turning on each other. It's not really funny ha-ha, but funny in it's revealing nature.

Nomar is on the 15 day dl after pulling some muscle in batting practice(NOT a good sign). Hopefully it will only be 15 days-I really want him to have a good year. I haven't heard any word on progress. The whole Dodger team is walking wounded right now.
-
I'm missing Nomar's fidgetting too!! Starting the season on the dl was not in the plan.

Took in my first game at Dodger Stadium, vs the Braves. Entering the game, Nomar and Lofton were on the DL. During the game, Jeff Kent had to leave after getting hit by a pitch, Furcal was kicked in the shin and had to leave,no-name Saenz at first for Nomar, botched a bunt towards him, and had to leave after twisting something, and rookie Loney ,replecing Saenz at first, took a line drive off his bare hand and had to finish the game with a swelling hand, as they were out of players. The Dodgers blew a 5 nothing first inning lead and lost. On the positive side, Bill Muellar is stroking, and the Dodgers are scoring tons of runs-they're just giving up more. The renovated Dodger Stadium is sweet, and it felt just fine to settle in with a Dodger Dog, coke, and peanuts thrown by Roger, baseball's premier peanut vendor. Roger has been a peanut vendor since Dodger Stadium opened in '62. His stock in trade is tossing peanut bags behind his back, 20 or 30 rows with unerring accuracy. He's been a guest on Johnny Carson, among other shows, and is still amazingly youthful, and loves his work. It's really Roger's ballpark and he just lets us visit.

You can also blame me for the animated devil 'amoeba'. Taylor Ov**bey was drafted to do it, as he had dabbled with making cartoons while in the corps. We were working together at the time in St Marys, and took on the project. It turned out to be a nightmare to get done on time. This was pre computer animation so we drew and painted hundreds of amoeba cels, hanging them on clothelines to dry, then shooting it in Taylors living room with a borrowed animation camera. On the first try, we found that Taylor's face was reflected onto the frame, and if not caught, the adversary would have been a squinting image of taylor projected , which would certainly have been more entertaining than the blob. We had to scramble to bring it to a studio with proper facilities, and it literally was done the day of the 'premiere'. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears for that stupid piece of *&$%.

and it's Rocky Raccoon, not Rory- Sudo-I don't think there's anyone anywhere who doesn't know that studio by the lion alone.

Johnny Lingo-I was a WOW in LA (well, san fernando valley) that same year, and there was no way I could have made it to PFAL 77 on my 1.90 an hour McDonalds job. Your believing must have been really big, BIG ,BIG! I was sure happy to see my corpse family 'coordinator' take off for those 2 weeks though.

The 'family section' of Chavez Ravine(so called because you can't buy beer out there) is a fun spot to watch a game. My only gripe is that the outfield bleachers are cut off from the rest of the park, so you can't even walk around the ball park. It's like you're herded out in the outfield, as a 'seperate class.' I can only hope that is remedied in upcoming renovatons. Still, I agree, that it is a good time out there.

I'm not predicting anything this season. It seems like every team is a mystery. The Yankees could be great or awful. The Bosox are a mystery, as are the Jays. Who knows if the Chisox can maintain, or if the Twinkies are any good. The Angels could go south or gel, and the A's mariners and Strangers have holes. The Dodgers MIGHT do well in an awful division IF they're healthy. I do like the Bizarro Red Sox team they have now, though , and am looking forward to the season for a change. Giants, Padres, Dbacks-yawn. Are the Cards really good? or the Astro's? The Central is a crapshoot to me. Will the Braves win another division only to fade in the playoffs? The Mets and Phillies keep trying to catch them but never seem to get it together. Dodger Stadium was somewhat renovated over the winter, with new seats colored in the same 'pastel' colors they originally were in '62. That sounded scary to me until I saw the place-it really looks good, and I can't wait to get back to my favorite section in the loge. Unfortunately the barrage of ads and loud music will still be there, creating a bizarre mix of old school ballpark and modern day cacophany. I don't even want to think about the next 5 years though, with with a Universal citywalk, type 'Dodgerville' being planned outside the stadium, and condos built all around, destroying the view and serenity of the place. I'm enjoying it while i can.
