Nomar is doing just fine-coming up with a couple of grand slam clutch home runs hasn't hurt. He's still a little shaky at first base, but noone is complaining. Unfortunately, Bill Mueller is down and needs surgery. He's optomistically saying he'll be back in 5 weeks-more likely we'll be lucky to see him before August, if by then. The Dodgers are still a mess. Matsui's injury was very sad. I hate to see that happen to anyone, let alone one of the classiest Yankees. He was apologizing to the fans afterwards, for allowing himself to get hurt. No apology needed. Ihope he can come back from this. A great article in the LA Times today about how slow the concession lines at Dodger Stadium are. And they are amazingly slow. I make a point of getting to a game at least 20 minutes early just so I won't miss 2 or 3 innings getting a dodger dog. The lines are much faster at Angels Stadium , and I'm curious now how they move at Fenway, Texas, and anywhere else. I'd also like to do a taste test between a Fenway Frank and a Dodger Dog. I'm guessing the Fenway Frank would win. Dodger Dogs aren't really very good, but they're like eating Mom's comfort food. It's part of the experience, and with enough mustard and onions, they're palatable. That was an interesting article, that I found I could neither disagree , agree or do anything with. Once he started on Girardian perspectives , I knew I was out intellectualed beyond hope.

those looks of dismay were uncomfortable. They were barely 'dates' tho, since they sent 'chaperones' along. Today we have 'Elimidate', where the women just about have sex with the guy while they trip over each other in order not to be eliminated by some mindless bozo. Perhaps the happy medium was reached with 'Love Connection'.

"bachelor #1, sing me a song about where we'd go on our first date" "bachelor # 2,let me here a poem about your favorite food" "bachelor #3, describe bachelor #1 as if you were a sportscaster" that was some show.

I dunno, I think 'Tapestry' is one of the great albums.

In a perfect world, no it shouldn't count. Neither should Mark McGuire's and Sammy Sosa's. It's probably impossible to ferret out the legitimate from the juiced for a surety. It will always be tainted in people's minds though, and there will be little celebrating when Bonds passes Hank Aaron, a true baseball great.

Barry has stated that he's only concerned with beating Babe Ruth's record, 'so we don't need to talk about him anymore'. Barry can't hold the Babes batting glove(which Babe probably never wore, nor a helmet). Barry's natural abilities were amazing, and if he had just kept off the juice, would have a had a great career-just minus a hundred homers or so. That he is such a pompous *^%$^*$ only adds to the reality, that noone is going to care when he passes 714. For me, it just magnifies the legend of Babe Ruth, who hit his home runs on a diet of hot dogs and beer, and spent the first part of his career as one of the best pitchers in the game. No telling how many home runs he would have had during those years-which were also the 'dead ball' era. Besides juiced Barry, there were also the 'juiced ball' years.

George had already said 'Birth of a Nation' so I didn't see the need to repeat. I'm not sure how a film that presents the KKK as being a great organization can not be seen as racist, but I'm sure you have your reasons. The DW Griffith movie that I really like is 'Intolerance'-an historical epic that spans 4 time periods and 'wrote the book' on filmmaking , cutting and editing. Films were very 'stagebound' be fore DW Griffith, who pioneered such radical techniques as close ups and quick cuts.

that brought back memories Kathy-British humor is an'acquired taste' they say Sometimes they killed me-other times I just didn't get it.

One doesn't need to be old to be aware of silent movies, just interested. I love silent movies, especially the comedians. It was one of the great 'revelations' in college to discover Buster Keaton at his peak. "The General" is simply remarkable. I'm thankful for TCM, which is the only real venue left on television for many classic and silent films. Here in LA, there is the 'Silent Movie theater', which presents terrific themed silent movie programs, often with really oddball performers. There are times I'm actually glad I live in this overcrowded, polluted, armpit of the country.

I've got seats behind home plate for Rangers-Angels in August. Hope they're still playing good by then. I aslso hope I haven't driven mstar from the board. I'm really not spoiling for a fight.

We seem to have nothing but 1 run games here, but that's mainly because the Dodgers can't hit a lick. Also because of generally good starting pitching(don't ask about the reliefers), and Dodger Stadium where balls die in the night air.

Eddie Gaedel being the midget (is that the proper term?) who Bill Veeck put in a game for the St Louis Browns. He had one at bat-walked of course, thus getting on base without an official at bat. I apologize for taking your metaphor too seriously-For a moment I got caught up in my 'old man' nature. I do think some Sox fans believe themselves to be morally superior to Yankee fans which is sorta sick in my opinion, but now that I'm in laid back Dodger world I let it all go for the most part.I don't think you quite understand that I DO understand the minutia of the rivalry and the 'curse' which NO rational person ever really believed. And it wasn't always the Yankees killing the dream. Can't blame the Yankees for Bill Buckner-another guy who should be remembered for his accomplishments but probably can't step foot in Mass anymore. So I'm going to try to get off it, but can't you understand that if you're going to paint teams on 'good ' and 'evil', not everyone will see it that way?

mstar-that DOES sound overblown, I mean... I hardly know how to respond to all those messianic metaphors. And I have to admit, that a part of me as a still deep down yankee fan , takes offense at being referred to as a 'devil'-ok, you're not calling ME a devil, just that I would support 'devils'. Might be something wrong with our 'scale of values' as they say, when a baseball game is taken that seriously. perhaps it's best we just move on

Throwing money at Damon is harmless, but the point is totally lost that he would have never been a Red Sox (Red Sock?), if he hadn't left Kansas City in the first place. He had a successful career with the Royals AND with the A's before following the money to Boston. I thought Damon handled the whole thing quite well, particularly enjoyed the hat tip to the crowd at his first at bat. He did look like he was better off playing behind Wakefield's knuckleball rather than trying to hit it.

it's 'good natured' amongst normal human beings-those being the vast majority of fans , thankfully. It's ugly among the rest, and beer is the ammunition that really fouls a ballpark. I'm no crusader of morals, and will enjoy a beer as much as the next guy, I'm just sick of idiots at the ballpark, and nowhere does one find more idiots than at Fenway or the Bronx. Oh well, I've ranted about this before. Don't mind me. But I understand and have been involved with the 'rivalry' as much as any fan. I was as rabid a yankee fan as you will find for the first 40 odd years of my life, and lived and died with every pitch through my formative, teen, tweens, 30's into my 40's. I just contend that it has taken on an ugliness that wasn't always there, but I'll shut up about it now.

I know Sox fan is passionate, and they tend to hold on to that passion as if it makes them somehow superior to other fans-which is absurd. It's the same disease Cub fan has. This is the morning of Damons return to Fenway. He will of course be booed mightily, which is to be expected and is the fan's right and privelege to do. "Betrayal' is a powerful hurt, even though without him, the Sox would probably still be looking for a championship. I just hope the 'passion' doesn't translate into a bad incident. I went to a Giants game at Dodger Stadium last week, and security was multiplied beyond reason because of Barry Bonds and what might happen. One guy was caught smuggling in a needle, which one assumes he planned to throw on the field. I was at the Giant game and in the parking lot when a fan was shot and killed a couple years ago, because he wasn't wearing the correct laundry. I'm all for passion and involvement -I only hope nothing happens in Boston today that we'll all be sorry for. Yanks-Sox may be the 'greatest rivalry in sports', but over the last few years it's become tedious and anything but fun.

From everything I hear, it is an excellent film, as accurate as possible, and not exploitive in any way. No way am I going to see it. I see no reason to put myself through the agony. I know there is nothing that is going to stop that plane from crashing, and choose to not subject myself to the experience.

I've been to Cooperstown 3 times in the last 10 years, as east coast trips have taken me from Rochester NY, to Connecticut, and I never pass up the opportunty to sidetrack there. It really is a beautiful place. I don't know if baseball was really invented there, or how much ol' abner doubleday had to do with it(besides having a great baseball name), but it's the perfect venue for baseball. I even entertain thoughts of retiring there when I walk around the town. I'm hoping to catch a game at the great field there sometime . Mstar-it takes a little work to be up on both coasts and leagues, but it's not that hard anymore, especially with all the espn games coming from anywhere, anytime. I understand it though. Growing up in Connecticut as a Yankee fan, I was completely myopic about them. I lived and breathed pinstripes, and actively detested the Mets, so I watched few national league games. I still consider myself an 'american leaguer', though I go to about 20 Dodger games to 1 Angel game every year. Somewhere along the way, probably due to moving so much, I found I enjoyed getting the whole baseball world, and began to lose focus on one team. I love living 10 minutes from Dodger Stadium, and enjoy the luxury of close access to major league ball. I even enjoyed Columbus ,Ohio, and being close to the Columbus Clippers. Even though I'm a coast away though, I still try to follow the east coast teams as much as possible. I admit to not being up on the KC Royals, though. Dodger Stadium is looking good, as I've reported . The problem is by the time he's done, the Boston Parking Lot owner, will have decimated the beast part of LA with condos, and citywalks. I'm enjoying the serenity while I can.

Got that in 1 note Kathy. A dumb show that was better than it should have been because of the 2 leads. Sudo-I thank God every day for my mac, and releasing me from the prisons of pc hell. Once you go mac, you never go back.
-
I can't play wmv on my mac, so I couldn't watch the video. Somehow I avoided getting caught up in the redneck cb radio craze. I did listen to some radio guy called 'the trucking bozo', in the middle of the night while cleaning office buildings in ohio one year. ok, I cheated and looked up the spinoff-I never watched that one either. I may have thought that was a Dukes of Hazzard spin off at the time-another show I never watched.
-
I listened to sudo's theme again-the only words I could almost make out sounded like bj and the bear-if that's the show, I admit to never watching it. I don't know what the reference to women drivers means either. I will take a guess on the spin off though-Carter Country?

The perfect bookend to Rog's career would have been to never have left. Pretty funny that they thought he was 'washed up' years ago. Of course Rog will go where the money is, and it's hard to bet against George there. Steve Howe's life ended tragically, but then that's fitting for him. Never was anyone given more second chances. He screwed up royally, but I still think the media and fans were too hard on him. If you were in his shoes you'd take the opportunity if it were handed to you. He was basically a good guy who couldn't control his life. He should never have been given all those 'do-overs'. I don't know if drugs had anything to do with the crash, but I was sad for him and his family. Meanwhile, the west coast version of the Red Sox is hit and miss so far. Bill Muellar is amazing, never has a bad at bat, and has become my favorite Dodger. Nomar had a game winning grand slam homer coming off the dl, but is still struggling. Derek Lowe is as unpredictable as always, and Grady Little hasn't won over Dodger fan yet, but no one is blaming him so far.
-
That show was good-the movie it was based on was even better. They both featured the best hard-***** actor playing the professor. And I still can't figure out sudo's theme. Plus he says there was a spin-off! I might have to do some detective work today.
-
jiminy crickets, Sudo-where the Sam Hill is that theme from?
-
I did watch that show,Kathy, and enjoyed it for the first couple of years. The main character kind of did a Jerry Mathers (the Beaver), as he aged, and wasn't very likeable as a teen, in my opinion.
