Sudo-thanks for the explanation. I should have said I know all about the left brain right brain thing, having read books on the subject, and supposedly being an artist myself(at least I get paid to draw). I was curious how you connected that to actors etc concerning points of view and all.

oh, I agree. I'd add politicians, religious leaders, and radio/ tv talk show hosts to that mix also-especially talk show hosts. In fact , I'm pretty tired of hearing opinions all day long-of course we know what they say about opinion 's and everyone having one-

which ego mega star monster are we talking about? why does Tom Cruse come to mind? and why does Sudo call it a left brain right brain thing? inquiring minds want to know.

no arguement here, tom. Actually I'm done yapping about George and the Yankees. Obviously, whatever baseball buttons can be pushed with me are Yankee related. As much as I don't consider myself a 'fan' anymore, at least in the bleeding pinstripes sense, my relationship with the team goes back to my earliest memories, and I realize I still care. It would be nice to get to Yankee Stadium more than once every 10 years though. Spending the summer at Dodger Stadium ain't bad though.

Im going to sound like a broken record, but i'm going to say it again. While it's a given that Steinbrenner throws big money and some players , shortsightedly, that is not what make the Yankees succesful. Right now the Yankees are winning with no names like Melky Cabrera. I just don't think you can distinguish the Red Sox from them by much. Boston has thrown huge money for big players, and will continue to do so, as they do whatever they need to do to stay on top. There are maybe 3 teams in baseball that have the resources, and the pressures from media and fans, to do whatever it takes. The Yankees, Red Sox and Mets exist in the baseball media center of the universe, and will always be ready with the huge paycheck. It was in the Sox plan to have Arod and Damon right now. If it had worked out, there would have been no need for the creative decisions they've made to compensate, and I agree they've made good decisions. The point is they would have preferred not to, and ultimately the Sox owners are no different than Steinbrenner. The Yankees have had to scramble this year with Sheffield and Matsui going down, and have made some pretty good decisions themselves.

ah, the time honored bashing of a departed high priced player, by comparing stats with the cheaper replacement. Kevin Youkilis may turn out to be a surefire hall of famer, but at this point in his career , he can hardly rival Johnny Damon's track record-give it a little time already. One thing is certain-if Youkilis is the real deal, he won't be making 354 thou for long. When his agent demands 10 million or more, and free agency looms, he may be eventually be known as 'You kill us'-that's a lame joke, but it's what baseball is.

first-I know all about the post '86 unifying of worlds. I'm asking about the time period when they had all the worlds-the 'real' DC ,if you will, at least in terms of my interest.I've never bought into the re vamped Superman, and still perceive the silver age period as the 'real' Superman-but that's just me. second- Kid Eternity was canceled before I was born-as were most of the golden age heroes. You referred to one of the earths as being the home of the 'Quality' heroes from the 40's, that DC bought the rights to. I believe Kid Eternity was one of the Quality comics, and I was curious if you knew how he wound up on earth s instead of the Quality heroes world. third I know about the Vertigo series, but haven't read it. Vertigo books are sometimes interesting, and sometimes too self important for their own good. I was not interested in their version of Kid Eternity, tho I do read 'Fables', one of the few current comic books that actually interest me.

Was your nametag really indicative of your faithfulness to God?
hiway29 replied to Hills Bro's topic in About The Way
It just occurred to me that nametags were just about the only concrete evidence of 'achievement', that many in the way were apt to obtain. In my experience, very few were actively following career, or educational paths. I knew people who got in the way during college, but really didn't have a plan after that. Of course they were always encouraged to 'give a year to God' and go wow, which then often led to corps, or simply trying to figure out what to do with your life, and how to fit that in while being involved with every way function available (like about every day). More often than not, people who were at the stage of life where they should be building a career and a life , were washing windows or working fast food joints, and wondering what to do about it. Add to that the feelings of unworthiness and condemnation that was common the deeper you got involved. No matter how much you were told you were 'more than a conqueror' in twig, the reality was intense judgement and pressure to do more for God, and to have every imperfection pointed out as if you were an affront to God and the Ministry. A nice nametag with your name engraved on it, proclaiming that you were succesful as a WOW , or took the Advanced Class, or looming over all, Way Corps, probably took on greater importance psychologically, (not that I know anything about psychology). -
AH-the HORSE-I stand corrected! and I bow to your break down of the various earths. But I don't understand why Kid Eternity is on earth-s ,as he is one of the Quality heroes isn't he?
-
The 1985 'crisis' was supposed to simplify everything, but in my opinion just muddied the waters. As a kid I had no problem with earth1, earth 2, and so on. I forget where the old Quality Comics heroes DC bought the rights to (Kid Eternity, the Ray, Black Condor, etc.), but it may have been earth 3, as if it matters.

I left out 'Victory'? What and who the heck are you talking about?
-
I was saddened by the movie, but don't have the strength to elaborate right now. I do feel the need to watch the first Christopher Reeve film again to cleanse the experience. I wanted to like it, I really did.

My very best friend since childhood died suddenly 2 years ago, this July 4th. I could write alot about it, but just want to say the hole it left in my life is enormous, and does not diminish over time. There is something about that relationship that is unique and irreplaceable.

The underwear on the outside has become problematic over time, but you just don't go changing Superman's costume much before it's not really Superman. Keep in mind that the original costume concept was patterned after a circus performer's, which was as close to a super hero as you could find in 1938. That the original Superman didn't fly, but leap up to an 1/8th of a mile, made him even more circus performer like.

That play at the plate during the playoffs is the single most mindboggling example of heads up, baseball instinct and sheer will to win that I've ever seen. One still has to ask what the heck Jeter was doing there, and gae in awe at how flawlessly he executed it. I don't usually go the hyperbole route, but I love Derek Jeter like no other player. Sometimes I think he's the glue that keeps it all together, and that the Yankees would bea mess without him. He has remained amazingly the same after all the success, fame, and intense NY spotlight. You'd never catch Jeter making asinine comments like Arod. He plays every game the same, all out, all for the team. He's also one of a handful of players that you cannot imagine wearing any other uniform. Never say never in baseball, but Derek Jeter in a Cubs or any other uniform would be sick. I can think of players that can hit, field, throw, and run better-but Jeter is the ultimate team player, who transcends his natural abilities. Ok that's enough. I don't mean to deify the guy. He has faults like everyone , but I'll take one Jeter over an infield of Arods any day.
-
The Scooter, that's who. I'm trying not to give it all away, as I went to far on Sudo's last quiz. The Scooter being the play by play guy, not the female lead.
-
Couldn't agree with you more, mstar. Soriano is playing outfield with a bad attitude to begin with. He didn't want to go there, and probably is lost at times. Who knows if he's trying to get better, or what the coaching staff is doing.
-
That's 'Harrigan' from 'Yankee Doodle Dandy', with the immortal james Cagney singing. I don't recall who the female is, but I remember Frances Langford was in the film so I'll take a guess. Dodger Dogs go up every year. I'm embarassed to admit I don't remember what they cost, though I've bought at least a dozen so far this year. Somewhere between 3.75 and 4.50, and more for a 'super dodger dog' which I don't buy. With the high prices for dogs, peanuts, and soda, (don't even ask about beer), I just bite the bullet and hand over a 20 hoping to see some change, and so the actual price is not ingrained in my mind. Peanuts are worth buying from Roger the peanut vendor though. He's been at Dodger Stadium since it opened in '62 and specializes in tossing your peanuts from behind his back 15 or 20 rows away. He's more accurate than most of the Dodger pitchers.

I have to work a half day on Monday, but will be eating Dodger Dogs at the Stadium on Tuesday at a 6pm game which is followed by fireworks. Baseball, hot dogs, and fireworks. What more can you ask for on a 4th of July.

mstar-for all your demeaning of Arod, you do remember that the Red Sox were ready to pay the big bucks for him also-and Sox fan was angry and disappointed that they didn't get him The Red Sox are a big market big money team., that I agree are making good choices. And while I agree that Steinbrenner goes after bad fit big money players, the organization knows the chess game and has done quite well. This is when baseball analyst will cry-but they haven't won since 2000!

Here's the answer about 'It's About Time" It was originally about 2 astronauts who found themselves back in caveman days (cavemen including Imogene Coca and Joe E Ross, -the comedian who always went ooh! ooh! About half a season in, it was decided to reverse the situation and they brought the astronauts (Jack Mullaney and Frank Aletter), back to the present along with the cave family. The theme song was revised to describe the trip from the past to the future. Sudo recalled the original version, and Kathy played the second version. All clear? Didn't help. it was cancelled after one season anyway.

I agree with you mstar, and think that the dominant Yankee teams of the 90's were put together smartly and gelled as a team, not a group of high priced free agents. So far, Alex Rodriguez looks out of place there, and who knows from Jason Giambi from year to year ( or roids to roids), or Sheffield for that matter. The heart of that team is still Jeter, Posada, Rivera,Matsui, (when healthy, sigh) and up and comers like Robinson Cano. I agree that throwing money at holes is not going to be the answer, and the Yankees have suffered when they've tried to do so. The Yankees will always be held to a different standard than other teams. The Dodgers, arguably the National league counterpart of the Yankees in history and tradition, have not won a championship since 1988. There are college graduate Dodger fans who have no memory of anything resembling a champion, yet the Dodgers are still perceived as a winning organization that draws over 3 million every year no matter how bad they are. The Yankees don't win for 5 years, and it becomes the lead line in every story .
-
Good points Mstar-and I agree with most of them. It does crack me up when I hear, and I hear it from every analyst, how the Yankees haven't won anything since 2000, as if it's a sign of failure. I get the point that money doesn't buy championships as the Yankee teams of the 80's and early 90's proved, but last I looked it's only 2006 now. How many championships have the Dodgers, Giants, Cardinals,Braves,Cubs, Athletics,Mariners, Rangers,Orioles etc etc won in like forever? Are the Yankees supposed to win EVERY year? Last I saw they totally dominated the late 90's and everyone was complaining about how boring it was to see them win every year. So now there's some balance and surprises which is only good for baseball as far as I can see. Or is Steinbrenner damned no matter what he does.

it is odd to think that Bruce Lee had to play second fiddle to that oaf Van Williams ok Van wasn't exactly an 'oaf'( he certainly had more going on than Adam West), but you know what I mean
