  1. I agree that they throw out baseballs at an alarming rate. I've read about, but can't remember exactly when or where, a major league game where ONE ball was used. It was certainly early in the last century, and before a time when fans kept foul balls. I can't count the number of games I've been to, sitting in prime 'foul ball' territory, and have not come close to catching one. You would think those balls were made of gold the way fans go after them, risking life, limb and Dodger Dogs in the scramble. Speaking of the Dodgers, I think they're going to the playoffs, and may surprise there. Nomar getting hurt again does not help though.
  2. you went door to door witnessing in new Knoxville, St Marys, area ? Who the heck around there doesn't know about the way, and long made up their mind about it ? door to door-I shudder at the memory of it. that form is insane-why would anyone turn their life over to others for such scrutiny ? rhetorical question-after 12 years in the way, I remember how they crawled under your skin.
  3. easy for you , George. I'll make an 'educated' guess - "Journey to Babel"
  4. There are some sad stories among the Mouseketeers. A couple of years ago there was a 'Disney Legends' event at the studio, and they had a 'meet and greet' on a patio right outside my window. It was sad to see Annette get wheeled in. She contracted MS in the late 80's and has been going downhill ever since. With it all, she still looked lovely, and had an amazing attitude, tho she's pretty much confined to a wheelchair. Karen (of Cubby and Karen) is also wheel chair bound, though I'm not sure why. Right around that time, Darlene Gillespie was arrested for shoplifting, and has crossed paths with the police in Burbank a few times. Tommy Kirk, (of 'the hardy Boys', and a million Disney films, was forced out of the studio in his late teens, when it was discovered he was gay. That seems almost funny when you consider the number of gay people there now. On the other hand , thankfully, it was cool to see Cubby, who is a professional drummer , no surprise. Bobby Burgess still looks like he could do those wacky dances. He was on the lawrence Welk show of all things as a dancer for over 20 years, and looks 20 years younger. I spent a lot of time with these folks when I was a kid, and it was something to see them now. Even greater was seeing Dick Van Dyke, and Kurt Russell swapping stories. All these people from so long ago.
  5. Not only did I watch the MMC , (loved 'Spin and Marty), I walk by a display case at work everyday that has Cubby's 'western' outfit from Talent round up Friday. The case also has a bass drum with the MMC logo painted on it, and various artifacts from the show. When I have more time , I have more to say if anyone is interested. I pass the soundsatge where it was filmed, and I've been to events, where some of those geriatric Mouseketeers have come back for some ceremony.
  6. I remember that book. I never saw it, but I remember Meg Kish talking about it. The whole idea gave me the creeps. They had a couple of classes at hq called 'poiema', where all the artists in the way got together and learned what made art 'right on' the word. They would basically trash great artists like Degas, saying he was 'technically' good, but his use of light and composition was devilish. Too bad Michaelangelo never had the pfal class. I couldn't stand the thought of being so limited, and was mentally rejecting much of it even as I sat and smiled.
  7. so baseball is over for everyone because the local team is out of it ?
  8. Alan Sherman 'Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh' about a letter home from Camp Granada probably '63 or so, though Alan Sherman had been around for years, and was one of the creators and producers of 'I've Got a Secret", the long running Gary Moore game show. Camp granada catapulted Sherman to fame, selling millions and leading to appearances on Ed Sullivan and a string of comedy albums. There was a follow up return to Camp Granada , as well as a few hit albums, usually consisting of popular songs satirized with a Jewish flavor. Sherman's career fell almost as swiftly as it rose in the late 60's when his brand of humor fell out of vogue. He died around 1973, in his late 40's, early 50's.
  9. and does Larry Romaine still have the handlebar moustache ?
  10. "Captain, We're receiving two hundred and eighty five thousand hails"
  11. I think that's the Next Generation episode, where Wesley and some other cadets were responsible for the death of a classmate, while trying some super flying stunt, and they tried to cover it up. That was a really good episode. Even had Ray Walston as Boothby.
  12. Just got back from Dodger Stadium, last home game of the year (unless they make the play offs). 1-1 tie, bottom of the 9th, Nomar crushes a grand slam with 2 out into the center field bleachers, and a good time was had by all. So when is opening day ? I'm going through serious withdrawal already.
  13. I did see the Legion cartoon. I kind of liked it, though I could rip it apart if I was in a foul mood. But for the most part, it was well written, and true to the 'spirit' of the legion. Maybe I'm just happy they included Bouncing Boy, of all people. All they need now is Matter Eater Lad.
  14. just musing- Irwin Allen shows always started off promising, then turned into mindless 'monster' shows. "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" had an intiguing first season, but the sub soon became the focal point for alien invaders, and other monsters. How all these aliens keyed in on a submarine to 'pop' in on was a mystery. "The Time Tunnel' was a good idea, though you knew those 2 were never going to find their way back. It took less than a season for them to be confronting aliens through time every week. "Lost in Space" was actually pretty good for about half a season, until it became the Dr Smith, Will, and robot show, with the aliens more ridiculous each week. Dr Robinson and Don should have been watching their son , instead of spending all their time repairing the weather stations. "Land of the Giants" was a dog from day one
  15. you were wise to go with' Mirror, Mirror', George, since that's the answer. I saw the ds9 Tribble show, but would never have put together the puzzle that you did.
  16. another line from same episode "I think we could be ...friends"
  17. Anybody know what the heck Scott Foust is up to ?
  18. "I'm a doctor, not an engineer" "Now, you're an engineer"
  19. I have to admit that I'm useless with quotes from Enterprise, Voyager, and DS9. I watched them and enjoyed them (sometimes), but I rarely connected with them, as I did with tos, or next generation. Having said that, it's obviously the episode Brent Spiner guested on where he played the ancestor of Data's creator. But I don't consider myself a winner, because I needed that major clue.
  20. several years ago, espn ran a 'home run derby' series from the 50's that was filmed in LA's Wrigley Field. It was shot in the late 50's , and featured players like Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Al Kaline and more. The stadium was empty, but it looked like a nice place for a game. The trees and houses were just outside the outfield walls, in a neighborhood that I'm afraid was nicer than it is today.
  21. That's some great history. When I see pictures of the Coliseum years, the first thing I think is how hot it looks, with no overhangs. Then that short left field, with the tall netting, not unlike Fenway. Were you at Dodger Stadium when it first opened? A lot of great names come and gone, but Vin Scully is still there, bless him.
  22. well, the Dodgers momentum lasted about 3 innings. Furcal led off the Dodgers 1st with a home run on the first pitch. Suddenly we have a team to rival any murderor's row. By the 7th inning, it was back to the masses leaving to beat the traffic, and the padres are back in first for the day. It was still a good game, and I'm already getting depressed about the end of the season. I'm going to try to squeeze one more game in befor the last home game on Sunday. Mstar, if you're out this way for the Sox, I'll make sure you get good seats. I have never been to Fenway unfortunately, but I know what New York and northeast baseball in general is like. Fenway and Dodger Stadium are different as night and day, but I've come to love the joint.
  23. I know you were addressing, George, I was saying I'm useless on 'Voyager' quotes. "You belong in the circus, Spock. Right next to the dog faced boy"
