The gentleman with Shirley Temple looks like Arthur Treacher before the fish and chips franchise. The 65 year old singer is a puzzler, but I'll take a stab at Richie Havens

It was indeed 'Spock's Brain'- from the abysmal 3rd season. 2 alien hotties 'pop' on board the bridge and 'pop off' with Spock's brain. 'Lost in Space' had more intelligent plots. It was a long way from 'Amok Time'

"Of course...a child could do it !"

That was cool, and I agree that you'd never see that on the inane Leno show.

I literally came face to face with Julie Andrews last Christmas coming off an elevator into a parking garage, and can honestly say that she looked more attractive than ever. Maybe that just means I'm getting old. Some of the women on that list are still happening. Then again, some aren't. I won't break it down though.

"The Inner Light" Next Generation Picard lives an entire other life while in a coma as 'Kamin' this episode is haunting, especially since Picard remembers it all when he recovers, and has that flute as a reminder there were times that NG went above and beyond, and for me, this is one of those episodes

I don't have all the names right, but I just heard that one of the tv announcers working the playoffs was fired for saying something like "Piniella is habla espanol, and I'm still looking for my wallet" I'm guessing they thought the guy was making a racist implication that spanish speaking people steal wallets, but you'd think SOMEONE would have been listening to the context. A little earlier Lou had one of the funniest lines ever in reference to a weak hitter (who I don't recall right now) , having the game of his life on Friday, and expectations thereafter. Lou said it was like someone finding a wallet on Friday, and expecting to find another over the weekend. When Lou said something in Spanish a little later, it prompted the other announcer to reference Lou's joke, which cost him his job. really stupid world we live in. I'm a little surprised Lou took the Cub's job. I was thinking George had him waiting in the wings to take over Torre's job after Joe's contract runs out next year. Good luck to Lou-with that team he'll need it.

That quotw sounds Picard-like, but that's as far as I've gotten. I'm outta town for a few days, so I won't be around to play.

This is so tragic. There will be time to talk about Thurman Munson, and the folly of private planes later. Prayers to the family. D**N

I never lived in Alameda so you may have me confused with 'the Highway' here. I grew up in Connecticut moved to Ohio, then California 20 years ago. I'm not a 'fan' in the strictest sense of anyone, but love bseball and go to over 20 Dodger, and 3 or 4 Angels games every year. I prefer UCLA to USC in football, probably because of the 'underdog' factor, and that USC are the "Yankees' of college football. Plus I live in walking distance to the Rose Bowl, and am exposed more to UCLA I root for the Clippers over the Lakers for the same 'underdog' reasons. I remain a Yankee fan because that's what I grew up with, and childhood loyalties die hard. Now that they're out I'm rooting for the Tigers to go the distance. If I'm a fan actively of anyone, it has to be the Dodgers based on the amount of time and money invested, plus enjoying many wonderful evenings in beautiful Chavez Ravine. The Dodgers are also 'burnt toast' by the way-as are the Twins. It's just not as much fun to dump on them.
-
I've been a Yankee fan since I was 4, but live in LA now, and spend much more time with the Dodgers. I'm not 'offended' by the remark, so much as fascinated that you've used it in 2 threads so far.

Mark is enjoying his burnt toast line so much, that he throws it out of context here. There must be a way for it to be used in the politics board also.

you're probanly right , George. I was thinking that comment could have come from Riker in one of his tongue in cheek impish moods.
-
I'm guessing that it's from "Time's Arrow", the NG episode in 19th century San Francisco, where they met Samuel Clemens but I wouldn't swear to it
-
ah I vaguely remember that episode-the Cardossians usually put me to sleep, which is what I must have been doing while Picard escaped

must be one of those ds9, Voyager episodes-or an Enterprise I didn't see

70 bucks to park ? I'm speechless within a couple of years, the Dodger Stadium parking lot will be a memory anyway, what with McCourt's plans for condos, and a citiwalk type 'Dodgerville' planned. there's also talk of building a football stadium adjacent of Dodger Stadium I'm enjoying the serenity while I can

what do you expect from the NY rags? canning Torre would be a HUGE mistake. Getting rid of Arod, Sheffield and a few other high price albatrosses seems a better plan to me. last nights oafishness didn't tarnish it all that much. I had a great time, and am delighted to have experienced a playoff game. ahhh skip it-I was going to comment on how bad I felt for the little kids that were there, sitting next to guys screaming F YOU all night, and why I think the Yankees are in 'damned if they do , damned if they don't' , situation, but I'm still tired. what didn't help from the start was entering the park and paying 15 $ to park instead of the usual 11$ jacking up parking4 bucks-to the loyal customers-a very low blow. it's all 'moneyball' for every team. no exceptions.

congrats to the Tigers. in a playoff series, anything can happen. i wish all these people rooting for ma and pop stores and gas stations would spend their money at a few of them, instead of living in a wal mart world. I just got back from Dodger Stadium. I was amazed at the level of excitement for a playoff game vs regular season. Every pitch was life and death.I'm glad I was there for that. I could have lived without the anger, frustration, and idiocy though. Around the 7th inning, fights were breaking out in the stands. Beer bottles were flying. I can't remember hearing the 'f' word so loud or often. This is mellow LA, not big bad NY.

I know the show, but I'm not sure if I've ever actually seen a whole episode. I twas from the early 50's , and rarely rerun in syndication where I lived. I'd like to see it on dvd also. One of the characters spoke with a weird voice that he abandoned when he went on to 'the Real McCoys"

he WAS wooden-so was his brother David there was something intentional about that on that show-not that I think he could have played it much different as I said in a previous post-'the 'adventures' of Ozzie and Harriet' were tv valium. the pacing was measured, none of the characters ever got too excited, angry, or displayed spontaneous emotion. The show was a reflection of Ozzie Nelson, much as Dragnet's characters and pacing were Jack Webb's. Somehow it worked for me. I was drawn to the show when I was 8 or so for those very reasons, tho I couldn't explain why then. Instead of the screaming and crisis' going on around me at home, it was a safe haven, where the Nelson's moved through life on this even keel. It was almost like a sedative. And for whatever reason, I enjoyed the darn thing, and watched it every week-till Batman took it away. But that's another story. of course in real life, Rick was a mess, Ozzie was a controlling stage dad, Harriet played the dutiful wife, and David lived in the shadow of Rick. oh-and when Rick was younger, he was anything BUT wooden. A more wise foot kid you never saw. they called him 'the irrepressible Ricky'. He calmed down, along with everyone else, as he grew older. ok-I've spent way too much time on this weird slice of Americana. I'm through, I promise.

the Dodgers have been able to turn it around, especially when they're at home, so I'm going to the game with a positive attitude-Maddux pitching doesn't hurt either thanks for the reminder of the ultimate wisdom of Yogi-it ain't over till it's over I admit I'm jazzed to be going to a playoff game-the ravine is gonna be rocking
-
Just got to work and found I did get tickets for Saturday. Not the primo behind home plate seats, but not bad upper level by third base. I'm excited, as I've never been to a play off game. I'd be more excited if I felt the Dodgers had a prayer.

George, you should know by now, that I probably won't be dropping any Odo/Quark quotes in. clue-the 'head' in question is often referred to as 'butt-head' in Trek circles. the x-files reference is a little too in-jokey for my tastes
