oops sorry about that-actually that had hardly anything to do with the real ending so I spaced I seem to be revealing stuff all over the place lately, so I've decided to take a vacation from posting anything so as not to open my big mouth .
-
I saw it and really enjoyed it. I 'm also somewhat confused, and feel I missed something at the end. The Hugh Jackman character was spitting out his last words while dying, and I couldn't make out what he was saying. I also didn't get the very last shot. Otherwise, I hung in pretty well with it, and the art direction was great.

That's so easy I'm not even going to 'guess'
-
oy vey, I forgot you quoted that show recently. you win though, George. Your turn.
-
"I always said you looked good without your..your..." "HAIR ! You didn't have any problem saying it on national television !"

actually, I de powered Superman more than I should have. He was able to leap 1/8 of a mile, not 1/16. Still a far cry from 'flying'
-
Those animated flying sequences have been slammed for showing in graphic detail how cheaply those serials were made, and they are obvious aren't they. Still, I kind of like them in that they move real nice, and there's no way they could have done that with a live actor then. I suspect they studied the Fleischer Superman cartoons and copied many of the energetic flying scenes from them. By the way, Superman didn't really 'fly' for quite some time . He originally was able to leap "1/16th of a mile"-which is pretty good if you're leaping. The flying evolved over time, but I really enjoy the original 'pure' Superman, who wasn't so all powerful.

I see the Dodgers aren't picking up the option on Eric Gagne's contract. It makes sense as he'll never be the pitcher he was, and it's unknown if he can pitch at all, but it's still sad. For a couple of years, Gagne was the ONLY reason to hang in there at Dodger games. Everytime he came in the game, the scoreboards would flash images of him with 'GAME OVER" underneath, while "Welcome to the Jungle" drowned out the crowd. Now he's yesterday's news. Game over. Thanks for stopping by. It's a business, everywhere. Oh-I'm kinda regretting my 'knee jerk' reaction concerning Jeter-he's just one player I actually care about.
-
sounds like Benny Hill, though I would have never have known it by the clues.
-
I'm not that impressed with gold gloves either. They're nice to put on the mantle I guess. As far as Jeter being the best or whatever. Everyone, including Jeter, knows that there are players with more range, better arms, and hit better. In my opinion what makes Jeter stand out is his total presence and awareness of any situation in any game. You could make highlight rules of Jeter making plays that shouldn't be made, and has earned his 'fame and press clippings', which sounds like an implied insult to me, though I'm sure it wasn't intended to be. Hey, I gotta get passionate about something in the off season. I'm waiting to see what team is suckered into giving Jeff Weaver a huge contract.

Ok-I've learned my lesson and I WON"T reveal who Jimmy Olsen was as a kid actor. Given the time frame, it shouldn't be that hard to at least narrow it down, though.
-
oops-guess I shouldn't have revealed it too soon. George is most likely onto it, also.
-
Sudo, you forget who comes in here. That's the origin of Superman. Not the George Reeves tv show, but the Kirk Alyn Columbia serial. The gentlemen are from Krypton, debating whether or not the planet's about to blow.

The 'classic' monsters, Frankenstein, wolfman etc, and old Universal horror movies in particular were big deals back in 1963. "Chiller" theater , with great local 'ghoul' hosts like Zacherley were all over the tv, monster model kits were huge, and there was even an Archie comic, 'Archie's Mad House', that celebrated all the vampires, mummies, werewolves, in a friendly way. And those movies were 25 years old even then. I'm afraid today there are untold numbers of people under 20 or even 30 who have never seen a Frankenstein movie. Or for that matter a "Laurel and Hardy', "Our Gang', Popeye or Betty Boop cartoon. What used to be commonplace on tv is non existent now except now and then on TCM. For all that is available from dvd's and the internet, I fear that it mostly goes unnoticed and un cared about. I know-it's old stuff, and isn't 'cool' like all the cgi laden movies, vid games, etc. I think something is lost. Anyway, 'Monster Mash' is still fun. Geez, does the new generation even know a Boris Karloff take off when they hear it ?

Vin is alive and well and still broadcasting Dodger games, bless his heart. I was praising Vin a couple of months ago in here, so I don't need to get started again, save to say that he has not missed a beat, and I'm enjoying him while we've still got him. The reality is he can't last forever, and he's just turned 80. Listening to Vin craft a game is better than watching many of them. He's also a rarity in that he doesn't work with a 'color' analyst. It's just you, Vinnie, and Chavez Ravine.

right , George-sorry for the late response-neck deep in the 'real world' lately

Yeah the Dbacks series was good, and I'm a Yankee fan. The Angels series was also good, in fact more than good. Maybe I spoke too soon as some points, still coming off the disappointment of the series. I will not budge on weekend daytime games though.
-
I agree with teams having to prove it in the playoffs. There's a reason the NFL has a 'bye' week for the teams with the best records though. I think the Cards and Tigers played a really weak series that's all.
-
Congrats to the Cards. Overall it was a mess of a series. The Tigers were awful, and the Cardinals not much better. If not for that little 'pest' Eckstein, (great move by the Angels trading him by the way) The World Series needs fixing. This year was a bore. The last 2 were 4 and out. The best teams rarely make it there due to a playoff system that makes a joke out of the regular season. And noone east of the Mississippi is awake by the end of the game. My opinion-they REALLY should play weekend games at least during the day. Who's staying home Saturday night to watch a baseball game? And at least there's a little sunshine to compete with the fans in parkas, and players wearing ski masks. When does hot stove season begin?

"storage facilities? storage facilities?...the what? the what?"

that's it pawnbroker the quote was from the episode where Bob's patients are giving him a verbal thanbk you card, but Mr Gianelli didn't show up, with the last line. They read it anyway , and the sec bursts in to announce his death right on cue not the best example, but it came to mind. and you drank when someone said "Hi Bob", which was usually good for several beers per episode

the legalism was always there, but started to become bizarre for me around '78. I was in Ct at the time, and a HUGE push began about obeying the 'man of God'. The 4 steps down from the mystery became common teaching at twig coordinator meetings, emphasizing above all, the requirement to obey the man of God. Any 'suggestion' by a leader, even in casual conversation , pertaining to something that's none of his concern, was to be considered the same as God speaking to you. The leader was always right in every situation. If you got roasted over the fire for something, anything, you had it coming to you. In fact we were to WELCOME the Godly reproof, in appreciation that God would have a loving minister reprove and correct you. How else are you going to grow unless you have someone in your face ? If most people had a clue what was in store for them when they signed that green card, they would've headed for the hills. And this was back in the 'good days'.

'Mudd's Women' not to be confused with the insufferable "I, Mudd"
-
no-the 'give away' clue, is that college students had a popular drinking game while watching it.
-
"you helped us all in many ways" "you got inside our heads" "and that is why we'd like to say" "Mr Gianelli's DEAD!" "well, THAT rhymes"
