I should have known George would jump on it. Chuck Connors (The Rifleman), playing Sylvester J. Superman, a backwoods fellow who gets caught taking a lemon meringue pie to the Arctic in a plot I can't even begin to describe. It is indeed funny, and genuinely clever.
-
Tracey Ullman "The Simpsons" began as quirky 30 second cartoons between the sketches. new quote "Has he been here yet ? The man who wanted the pie ?"

I go back to when a McDonalds hamburger was 15 cents-it may have been 28 cents by the early 60's. The local bottling company in Stratford, Connecticut, made the best Birch Beer. Clear and crisp in returnable bottles. I wonder if they're still around ?
-
guess that was too easy-your turn waysider
-
"This order is insane, absolutely insane" "It is signed, Adolf Hitler" "Insane, yet sane".
-
It's even sadder if you've died young from eating too much McDonalds :(
-
ah-Laugh-In Arte Johnson, Ruth Buzzi if you had described the 'slap', as hit over the head with a purse, it would have been easy

That 60's site was cool, but the first thing I noticed was the claim the in 1960 , the Big Mac, was 28 cents. There WAS no Big Mac in 1960 ! I forget the year it came out, but it was probably '66 at the earliest. Just looked it up and found that the Big Mac came out in 1968. I didn't find the price, but my foggu memory tells me it was 49 cents at the time.

sorry wordwolf-I'l try to be more patient next time. When I wasn't getting any response, I didn't want to leave it sitting out there, and tried to 'move things along'. I don't recognize waysider's quote, but it sounds like something out of 'Married with Children', or 'Benny Hill'

"The best diplomat that I know is a fully loaded phaser bank".
-
your turn, waysider.

I thought this would have been easy. Here's the gimme. "I'm coming Elizabeth."

well, that was the death of Tasha Yar, though I don't recall the episode title.

If Maris won back to back mvp's, he had 2 amazing years. The comparison with Mazerowski has merit, but I can't compare the two. Ask 100 people on the street about Maris and Mazerowski, and even today, the vast majority will know Roger Maris. It IS the Hall of FAME, and Maris earned his fame by deeds. The .260 average, reminds me of the brilliant reporter who asked Maris during the home run chase if a .260 hitter 'deserved' to chase the Babe. No wonder his hair was falling out in clumps. I agree that Ron Santo should be in.

"I still want to sow some wild oats." "At your age, you ain't got no wild oats. You got shredded wheat."
-
There are several on that list that are probably deserving. Mattingly was headed straight for the Hall until his career came up short with a bad back, which kept his total numbers down. In my mind, the Hall should be about more than numbers. It's the Hall of FAME, not the Hall of who sticks around the longest. I think it's ridiculous that Roger Maris isn't in. Back to back mvp's, on top of beating the Babe (steroid free, btw). Even those who don't care at all about baseball know who he is. The Hall SHOULD be extremely selective, and usually ( not always), those that deserve to get in, do. Gwynn and Ripken are no brainers. They have to go in. McGuire would have been there right with them. Hershiser and Jim Rice are my 'should be in' picks from that list.

needles and pins did it- The Honeymooners

just a suggestion, but when one knows for a certainty that they have the right show, it is fine to include the next quotes with the answer. This will keep the ball rolling, and save posts that are reminders that it's their turn. Of course, this isn't "Jeopardy" and there aren't any 'rules'. Just a suggestion.

So Tom, what's your take on Gary Matthews Jr, who just left the Strangers, to sign with The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California. Has he really 'come into his own', or was last season a fluke ? My MVP votes would have been much like Mstar's. Mauer has it all over Morneau, and I thought this was the year Jeter should have wone it, though I admit to a bias there. and Joe Cowley must be living on another planet.

go George

"Well, what do you know. I finally got the last word."

Can't remember the title, but it was the NG episode where Data is put on trial to determine whether he is or isn't a 'sentient being'. Some starfleet yahoo wants to take him apart, and Picard defends him, while Riker is strongarmed into prosecuting against Data. Excellent episode in every way. Picard at his best, delivering said quote, and one of those episodes that turned me from a Riker 'hater' to him being one of my favorite characters. The Starfleet judge's performance is kind of off to me though. All that critique and I can't think of the title.

Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle ! Looks like the Cubs are landing Soriano. Add that to Ramirez and a healthy Derek Lee, and the Cubs are suddenly a powerhouse. Soriano will make Wrigley look like the bandbox it is, if he doesn't get tangled up in the ivy in his outfield adventures. With Lou at the helm, I'm interested in the Cubs for the first time in my life.

"NORM" ! now it all makes sense. I'm sure it's wordwolf's turn
