I laughed and I cried. That sorry tale so typified the 12 years I was in it's almost scary, except back then you wouldn't have to go 1800 miles to find and advanced class grad !

I had no idea you had such French horn skills. There's something soothing about a French horn. The bands in my hometown would curdle your ears. I played clarinet-BADLY- from 6-8th grade, then mercifully bowed out before I poisoned the high school band. In retrospect, they did enough damage without me. I did enjoy marching in the Memorial Day parade though. I can get real home town nostalgic when I think on that.

I have no idea what to say about those, except they're well done. The first one I remember as 'finiculi, finicula', but I don't know by who, and have never heard the second.

I seem to be the sole Yankee fan around here, so it's like wearing a Yankee cap in Fenway. It's not exactly been my history in here to get into rivalry debates, and I'm not wanting to start. Besides, I don't think the Yankees have a prayer to make up 9 1/2 games unless they straighten out their problems fast. I don't know how refusing to play on certain days equates to a 'goofy moment'. I'm not going to defend any cheap shot, no matter who's laundry he's wearing.

You must be thankful every day that your team just missed being saddled with arod. This thread is turning into a Sox fan site, so I think I'll refrain from feeding the flames. Brad Penny just pitched a great game against the amazing Brewers. Nomar seems to be missing something so far this year. As usual the Dodgers can't drive in runs, but the pitching keeps them in every game. I'm looking forward to sitting back in the loge on Saturday against the Cubs.

In the meantime, parking at Dodger Stadium has gotten better. I'm going on Memorial Day weekend, so we'll see.

Maybe I'm a bit rash with the 'suck' evaluation, since that's a word I rarely use, and I cringe whenever I hear someone shouting it at a ballgame. I still contend that a double digit lead in May over every team in the division does not speak highly of those teams. Or maybe the Sox are the '27 Yankees. '67 Bosox. and '55 Dodgers combined. We'll see what's what at the all star break. Even when I lived in Connecticut, I found Yankee Stadium difficult to get to. My parents brought me to ONE game growing up. When I was old enough to get there myself, I found driving in NYC something to avoid at all costs. This meant taking the train to Grand Central, then subway to the Bronx-about a 2 1/2 hour trek. My 10 minute drive to Dodger Stadium, and access to decent seats on any given night is a dream come true in comparison,so it is 'infinitely more convenient' .

I'm hoping to get to Yankee Stadium one more time before the wrecking ball. Dodger Stadium is infinitely more convenient for me.

I think a division where every team but one sucks is nothing to be excited about. The AL East is a borefest in May, and you can be sure attendance willstart to drop for the last months. Of course Sox fan is giddy-he he he-and why not. Coasting to the playoffs with no pressure is a fans dream. I'm glad there are other divisions that actually have some pennant races.

I have to admit I can appreciate mstar's analysis more than he he he.

Gagne was as automatic as I've ever seen. He just threw heat, and each pitch looked more unhittable than the last. He was the main draw for those couple of years. You knew he was coming in, and they'd blast 'welcome to the jungle' with a cartoon graphic of his face over' game over', as he walked in from the bullpen. Owners never know when to call it quits though. Last year(or was it the year before-yikes) he came back for a game or 2, after a long time on the dl. I was at the game and thought it a bit of wishful thinking that they still did the whole 'game over' routine when he came in. That may have been his last game before getting hurt again, on his long road to Texas. Pitching is such a fragile thing. Enjoy the dominant pitchers while you can. It can turn in a moment.

the Sopranos baseball in summer, football in winter Turner Classic Movies occasional jaunts through cable channels- tvland, foodnetwork, cartoon network. discovery that's about it "My Mother the Car' barely lasted 1 season-can't imagine anyone actually 'liking' it, but it is a 'fond memory'

I knew this season would be a love fest between mstar and bolshevik. Enjoy it fellows.

Belle, the love of ballparks has been a consistent theme in here, from Dodger Stadium, to Fenway, to any number of minor league parks. We share your love. I've been to Dodger Stadium so many times it's second nature, but now that you mention it, it IS huddled in the hills. l

Not my turn-I've already used the show, so I wasn't 'guessing' I'm sure Raf wouldn't mind you going , George, though I shouldn't assume that.

Tim McCarver does good analysis, but- He tells you what he thinks- then he tells you again- in case you missed it he tells you again- after the other guy replies, he tells you again- If he only knew how to edit himself he'd be listenable

Who knows if we'll ever know what happened to the dog. It's the 'leaders' who thought it 'commendable' that someone would carry out the MOG's wishes so thoroughly that creeps me out. We were taught time and again to be 'spiritually sharp' to everything a leader said. A 'suggestion' was the same as revelation from Gawdalmighty. In the way, you were NEVER wrong for being a toady-unless you were a toady that forgot a detail-then you were lower than scum until you were properly reamed out and repentant. I'm quite sure that many lives were screwed with based on 'comments' and 'suggestions' from the elite. I suppose we should be thankful they didn't 'suggest' people they had issues with 'disappear'.

I'm away from the fires , but not from the smoke. Griffith Park is just down the road from work, and the air has been smoky for days now. It even gets into my underground parking lot. I'm not sure how Bond's teammates will respond when he breaks the record.I remember when he hit 600, they went out of their way NOT to congratulate him. At the time it had nothing to do with steroids-they just didn't like him. The fans in San Francisco seem to embrace him, so I have to think Barry will do all he can to hit it at home. Unless he doesn't care about fan response. There are always Yankee fans, or Bosox fans when they play the Angels. In Dodger Stadium, it's Giants, Cubs, but surprisingly not many Mets fans. What impresses me are Pirates, or KC Royals fans.
-
for some reason, some of these quotes read better, than on the actual show-much as I liked it.

Schilling has since 'apologized' for those statements. According to the radio guy I heard it from, Schilling and Bonds have a history of 'hating' each other. That Bonds would have been one of the greatest players without steroids makes it that much sadder.I was going to say the steroids weren't to blame for his surliness or ego, but who knows if they haven't played a part. Extreme mood changes are a side effect with steroid use. Thankfully, Junior never went that route (I don't THINK). With his history of injuries and illness, steroid use could have seriously backfired on him.

I hear you about 'the nation' and refer to it somewhat tongue in cheek. "They' do sometimes think they are 'better' fans-present company excepted in here of course.

I wasn't trying to 'start something', just making a perhaps unfair observance based on what's posted in here. Hey, noone knows more than me what being a Yankee fan is all about, having lived the first half of my life in Connecticut and living and dying by them. I was as myopic a fan as you ever saw until I moved west and 'spread my wings'. I do think it's easy to follow other teams if one wants to-there's no lack of information out there. Anyway- I have no issues with the Nation here. I apologize if it came across like that.

ESPN is all about Barry, The Yankees and the Red Sox.-oh and now Clemens-but that's because he's a Yankee again. I didn't think anyone outside of NY and New England cared about the Giants as a team -and of course they don't. I wouldn't vote Barry for the Hall either. What Mays MEANT was that after Aaron's record, there are no other records left for the steroid era to demolish. While I do think steroids will always be arund, I don't think baseball will be ignoring them as in the 90's. oops I meant noone IN NY and New England cared about other teams.
