"The Munsters" of course. It had to be that or the Addams Family. The 'darn, darn, darn', did it.

Play the Superman Photo Shoot Game

Fun game-but it would be better with Christopher Reeve instead of that faux Superman wanna be -
Looks like I've brought this board to a halt with my 'war' with Mstar. I'm seriously not looking to be antagonistic with someone I like and respect. I DO think a 'line' was crossed, and felt like I needed to stand up for myself. Ever since I've come here I've felt almost like I needed to 'apolgize' for being a Yankee fan. I take full responsibility for that, tho I admit this place seems almost a RedSox fan site at times, and I've tried hard to avoid conflict. Besides, I'm not nearly as 'rabid' a fan as I once was, and am glad to be 3000 miles away from the line of fire. I do think Mstar's opinions reflect a lifetime of dealing with the New York , Boston thing, and if the Yankee fans he describes behave the way he says they do, he should opt to either pick new friends or only talk baseball with your fellow Sox brethren. I and many of my closest friends growing up were and are faithful Yankee fans, and I like to think we're pretty fine people, and not 'exceptions to the rule'. So I'm dropping the subject. Besides, I've got 2 games at Dodger Stadium this weekend vs the Snakes, which is of much more interest to Rocky. I'm amazed the Dodgers still have a shot for the wildcard.

Mstar-what am I supposed to make of that picture you just painted. You forget that I'm from Connecticut, smack dab in the 'neutral zone' of both teams and am more than familiar with the area. I could make a case about all the time I've safely spent in New York and Yankee Stadium vs the nightmarish weekend I spent in Boston when in college. Essentially you're agreeing with my point. That Boston fans see themselves as 'good' and Yankee fans are 'evil'. Excuse me for thinking you're full of beans. You say "I haven't been ripped off in business by Red Sox fans, I have by Yankee fans". I see-Yankee fans are criminals and untrustworthy, RedSox fans are good and pure. What hogwash. You're attitude is as 'snooty' as any I've ever encountered from Yankee fans. I guess if we ever meet youll be certain to have your 'eye open' around me. I'm really somewhat surprised at you gross characterizations.
-
I'm not in a 'twist'. I'm just going back to my original point (I think) That the 'wonderfulness' of Red Sox nation, is no different than the behavior you find so distasteful in Yankee fans. It's obviously fine or not, depending on who's laundry you prefer.
-
If people are 'repulsed', it's because it's that kind of 'arrogance' that you find so annoying in Yankee fans, now displayed by Sox fans.Angels Stadium is often referred to as 'Yankee Stadium west' Of course since it's the Sox it's 'hilarious'. I guess life is all about choosing 'sides'. Yankees vs Red Sox, democrat vs republican, pro choice vs pro life....
-
geez mstar-thats exactly how I perceive the Red Sox Nation. That they're somehow better fans than other teams. That Boston is 'special' in a way no other team is.It's not the same as NY 'arrogance', but it's just as condescending. I agree with the NY attitude that they have to win every year. To me it's a curse that comes from too much past success. When the Yankees were tanking early in the year it was like a feeding frenzy of piling on about how they're just a bunch of high priced prima donnas, not a real TEAM . The Yankees aren't allowed ' to have an off year, rebuilding year, without hearing it from every media outlet that expects them to be on the top all the time. As for me, , I grew up in a time when the Yankees were maybe the worst team in baseball. I've never had that sense of 'entitlement' .

Rick Ankiel is one of the great stories in baseball. I still cringe when I think of how he lost it pitching. That he could go through all the work and come back like this is just great. I hope it's not a fluke, and that he's the real deal. I understand Steinbrenner bashing. It doesn't appear that we'll have him to kick around much longer anyway. He's pretty much a figurehead by now.Somehow I don't think those who 'dislike' the Yankees are going to change, even if the next owner is a sweetheart. Mudcat Grant ! sigh-we need more Mudcat Grant

well you tell me mstar. Is it that the players are unlikeable? When the champion ship team Of Jeter, Bernie Williams, Paul O'Neill, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius were together, you couldn't find a better mix of 'good guys'. I understand Arod dislike-tho your team almost had him and wanted him. Is it Steinbrenner? Could be. Though for all his faults he's delivered the best team he knew how ( which wasn't always much). Isn't that what fans want in owners? Or are Boson's owners big lovable guys. Actually you've answered that, and I guess they are. Is it because they've won so often? That's probably the biggest reason. Everyone wants to shoot down a winner. Root for the underdog and all that. I happen to have loved the KC Royals in the 80's and root for them every year to be able to compete again. Is it because of New York ? Maybe, though Boston has a history of being accused of being racist in all their sports teams. I'm not saying I agree with that-it's just what people say. I know I'm one of the few Yankee fans here, and there are many Sox faithful. So be it. I loved the Yankees as a kid-the only time being a fan really matters. I admit I don't wax as elequent about them, but frankly I don't think anyone wants to hear it.

gee what a surprise -everyone hates the Yankees. What's funny to me is that the Red Sox are now everything that people hate the Yankees for. Huge salaries, win at all costs. The East is the Yankees, Sox, and a bunch of also rans. The Sox still have that 'lovable' image, which is somehow lost on me. Mstar will tell me that it's the genuis of the Sox owners, vs the evil empire. The reason I thought the Indians fans hated the Reds, when I lived in Columbus, I found people were either Reds or Indians fans, mostly Reds. The stuff I heard Reds fans say about the Indians, like they shouldn't have a right to exist.
-
I rest my case.
-
Were the Indians on at the time, and they just weren't showing it ? If so, I see nothing 'good' about it. If I'm in Cleveland I expect to see Indians games, not Sox, Yankees, or whoever unless the local team isn't on at the time.
-
Having lived in Columbus, Ohio for 3 years, I'd say if it's not the Cincinatti Reds, I don't know who, even though they rarely play each other.
-
It's always good to hear from fans of various teams. The Cleveland Indians are a grand old franchise, and are certainly still in contention for a playoff spot.By all means, sound off !
-
gloating ? If you're referring to what's posted in here, I've yet to see it. Last I looked the Sox still had a huge lead, and the Yankees hopes for a playoff spot are hanging by a thread. There's nothing to gloat about. The pro Red Sox posts in here outweigh anything pro Yankee by a huge margin. Mstar and Bolshevik alone make up a huge cheering section. For myself, I don't gloat over something I have nothing to do with. If I'm part of a team maybe.
-
At least mstar got the sweep he was looking for. :)
-
Yeah, I overreacted. If mstar has the time and energy for that kind of nonsense, then I don't want to spoil his fun. There goes the sweep, anyway. I'm still holding out hope for the Yankees making the wild card-though they'll probably lose to the Angels in the first round.
-
nice to see you motivated again, mstar. I was starting to worry. I guess even you are past the point of concern, and are letting it all hang out. I admit to being disappointed. I may have to bow out of here for awhile if that's the kind of cheerleading I can look forward to for the next month.

The Dbacks also play in a division of small salaried teams. Well, the Dodgers payroll is pretty high, but there isn't anyone on that team that will 'scare' you. Same with the Padres, Giants, and Rockies. The Dodgers play like a small market team-whatever that means. I know the Dbacks can play the Yankees and Bosox well in any given series. If they were in the same division over the course of a season, I wonder how they'd do. I'm not saying they wouldn't hold up, just that I don't know.
-
I agree that the Sox owners know what they're doing-and are willing to spend Yankee type dollars to do it. My point was that the D Rays will never be able to spend the same money the Yankees and Sox do. Granted all the money in the world won't compensate for bad moves. The Yankees of the 80's proved that. But the big money , small market gap is insanely wide. And yes, there are small market teams like the Twins, who have done well, with good baseball people, so I agree that it CAN be done. But take a team like Kansas City. If they had been able to keep their home grown plyers, Carlos DelGado, and Johnny Damon for starters, they'd be a real power instead of a joke. The reality is that good players go for the money as soon as they can, and the teams that can afford them are few. It's an old argument. I'm not saying anything new. I just don't know how to change it.

There are more 'Boston Massacres" than I can count. Sometimes it's referred to when The Sox are doing the 'massacreing", other times when they were massacred. They'll have to really be massacred not to win the east. The Yankees would have to sweep the next 2 series with them to have any impact, and that's not going to happen. Just what is the point of the existence of the Devil Rays anyway ? They will never be able to compete with the 2 juggernauts from the northeast.I'd almost say the same is true for the Orioles and Blue Jays, except I'm holding out hope that those proud franchises can find a way to compete someday. In other faraway news, David Wells pitched an amazing coming out of 'retirement' game for the Dodgers. It's probably too little too late, but I like to think that kind of heart will rub off on other players. Grady Little certainly isn't supplying it.

Was Owings night a fluke, or should they be using him as a pinch hitter ? I've never totally understood why pitchers make such lousy hitters as a rule, outside of the reality that they don't work at it, and aren't paid to hit. Why not use this guys bat if he's got one ? The Dbacks are looking good. Certainly better than the Dodgers, who are doing their usual fade. I'll be at the Ravine today to see them and the Rockies slug it out for 3rd place. I thought the Gagne trade was bad for him the moment I heard it. After an impossible stretch with the Dodgers, 85 saves and a 1.20 era , or thereabouts, he went on the dl for 2 years. I didn't know how he would respond in Texas , but looked like he was working his way back. Now suddenly he's thrown into the Boston fire, and expected to be the Gagne from 4 years ago. ""Game Over" indeed. The LA times ran a story recounting his walk home from the ballpark after his last blown save. Besides the amazement that he was walking home, it described an angry Boston fan base, jeering him every step of the way. I never know whether to believe anything I read in the papers, as writers will take a minor incident and write 5 pages on it, but I have to give Gagne credit for not melting down. Unless one considers his performance as a meltdown. It's not really his fault. What should he do, say "Don't put me in, Skip, I suck ?" Maybe they should use him in less critical spots until his form is back, but I don't think you'll get the true Gagne in situations like that. A guy who posted 85 consecutive saves does not know how to be a 'mop up' man. Basically , not the best move the Sox ever made.

Thanks-Phil Rizzuto was THE voice of baseball for me when I was growing up. I probably listened to him talk more than my parents, and teachers combined.
