  1. I admit disappearing into the scoreboard is funny. It would have been even funnier if a ball had been hit out there. Theres' a huge difference between Manny dogging it, and JD Drew. No one gets cut more slack than Manny, and I suppose that won't change until he blows a huge game with his antics, or hits .250.
  2. It's certain Manny will be walking whether it's a home run or not. 5 months without baseball is a looong time.
  3. The Real McCoys it is. I've been watching the first season lately, and it's about as annoying as I remember it, yet somehow Walter Brennan saves it.That it takes place in California in the San Fernando Valley is amazing to me. It's as corn pone a place as Hooterville, but maybe the Valley in the 50's still had those farming pockets. Sure ain't the Valley I saw when Iwas sent wow there in the 70's. I'm not sure Elmer ever said 'dagnabbit', though he might have. It wouldn't be his 'signature' line like it was for Amos McCoy.. You're up, George.
  4. not a cartoon-though something of a 'cartoon' character
  5. I just remembered I already used this show-so the one word should really be easy.
  6. I'm thinking this one will be solved with one word. 'Dagnabbit !"
  7. aha! it suddenly came to me. The Muppet Show !
  8. why ? I mean, really, who cares? She'll now get vilified by the religious right, but there is nothing in the books themselves to corrupt young minds. At least in that regard. Kids may all turn into witches, though I don't think they'll have much luck shouting 'stupefy' ! I think most writers have ideas about their characters as they write them, that don't always come out on the page.If that's what she had in mind for Dumbledore, then so be it.
  9. I'm drawing a blank. I'd say it's British, except a couple of jokes sound 'Americanish'. It's certainly nothing I ever saw.
  10. Don't think the Socks haven't designed all that stuff already also. You think it appears like magic after teams win?
  11. Not only were the Rangers once the Washington Senators, the Twins were also once the Washington Senators, The original Washington Senators left for Minnesota sometime in the 50's (I don't recall what year). A new Washington Senator team was formed not long after , that really didn't last very long before moving to Texas. I still think they should have named the Washington Nationals ,the Senators, to keep the tradition alive.
  12. It would be SSDD, except that Torre was manager for 12 years ! That's rare for most teams and unheard of in the Steinbrenner era. For 12 years it wasn't SSDD. The Joe Torre era will go down as one of the most successful ever, with 12 straight playoff appearances and 4 World Series rings. That's more than a centuries worth for most teams.
  13. I'm inclined to agree that a more fitting exit would have been better, but I also think what they offered wasn't all that bad. Outside of Tommy lasorda, I'm hard pressed to think of many managerial changes that are 'pleasant'. The old adage that you're 'hired to be fired' is so true. It still hurts though. Almost noone wanted to see Joe go, and I think it will hurt the Yankees more than they know. A ticker tape parade for Torre through the Bronx would seem appropriate to me.

    Breakfast

I'm eating oatmeal like 5 days a week lately. Finding old favorites like Chocolate Malt -o -Meal is fun. I hope your experience with it is better than when I found Maypo on line, and had to try it again. Either it's not made the same, or something was lost in translation in the 30 years since I last had it. The old Marky Maypo cartoon ads were huge selling points. I've enjoyed 'Quisp' cereal on line better-but in moderation due to the intense sugar content.
  15. I loved that theme and the opening montage, but usually was bored with the actual program. Maybe if I saw it again. I hated cop, detective shows when I was a kid, but have recently been re- discovering shows like 'the Rockford Files', and finding I have more of a taste for them now. This show may be another one to see again.
  16. I'm staying silent these days, as I've gotten into too much hot water with my mouth, but I have to say this about Torre, . It wasn't the worst deal I ever heard that was offered to him, but I understand and respect his turning it down. If it was up to me, he'd be back. For people who wish nothing but failure for the Yankees, then chime in about how 'classless' they are in his treatment is perplexing. If you want the team to fail so much, it really doesn't make much sense to want the best for the manager after they meet your expectations. As much as I wanted him to be offered a better deal, he was still going to be the highest paid manager in baseball, with incentives through the roof. I see teams handle manager changes with less 'class' every year.
  17. I'm like waysider. I have 'technical limitations' ( meaning I don't know how to post stuff here, as I'm frantically trying to learn new technologies at work before I'm officially a dinosaur ). I have a serious love/hate relationship with computers. It is kind of frustrating though, as I have all sorts of obscure junk that you may or may not remember.
  18. Or did Donnie do "witnessing and Undersheperding', and Earl Burton the Way Tree. Man, it's all becoming a blur.
  19. Donnie Fugit taught the video Way Tree class that I took. I enjoyed it more than most, because Donnie didn't seem like such a 'tool'. He had me buying into the bull for awhile there.
  20. Not that I'm looking for 'sympathy', or that anyone cares-but the years when baseball REALLY mattered-when I was 12, the Yankees were the WORST team in baseball, and I lived year in and year out with Horace Clarke, Jake Gibbs, and Gene Michael as the 'stars'. I NEVER had that feeling of 'entitlement' Yankee fans are accused of. The Red Sox , Orioles, and Tigers were the dominant AL teams back then, and the Yankee dynasty was a thing of the distant past.
  21. The violence described has nothing to do with 'fans'. They're detestable people that unfortunately exist everywhere, and no more represent the Yankees and their fans than any other criminal. It is a sad reflection of how far some people take this stuff seriously. It's one reason I've gotten out of Dodge, and enjoy laid back So Cal baseball-except I was in the parking lot the night a Dodger 'fan' killed someone in a Giant hat. From my perspective, I've not accused Red Sox fans of being anything other than fans like anyone else. You're the one who's elevated them to a special status, being somehow 'better people' than Yankee fans. I'm all done. I've probably said things I wish I didn't here-you've never backed off on anything, and that's fine. The way the Yankees are playing, it doesn't look like an AL east playoff, but if it does happen, I have no desire to get into a p*ssing contest.
  22. On one hand, "all businesses need to spend money to be successful"-always acceptable unless it's the Yankees. Teams have been showing for years the Yankees can be defeated at a lower price. I get the 'deathstar' crack. Evil empire, vs Good and Pure Sox Nation. It's getting tiresome.
  23. I'm not saying the Yankees don't spend a ton of money. Everyone knows that. I'm saying other teams are well on their way to catching up-including the Cubs, who really opened the wallet this season. If Arod had gone to the Sox, like he almost did, that would have about cut the difference between them and the Yankees. I'm all for rooting for the teams with the least payroll. The Devil Rays should have drawn 4 million this year, and be facing Kansas City in the playoffs now. I do admire the Rockies, Dbacks and Indians for succeeding on grit and weak divisions.(well the AL central isn't weak-nobody seemed to want it this year). The reality in baseball is that today's spunky young cheap player is tomorrow's expensive free agent.
  24. Have you looked at the Cubs payroll lately? And the Red Sox are right on the heels of the Yankees in payroll. Image is everything.
  25. mstar-you have outright categorized Yankee fans as untrustworthy, criminal, and people you have to have 'an eye' on. Those are your words. It really has taken much of the enjoyment out of coming in here for me. The more you're asked about it, the more your true feelings emerge.
