Grady Little has quit the Dodgers, in order to beat them to the punch , I guess. I do feel bad for him, in that he's a good guy who may be a better coach than manager. I recall the Boston's firing him after he left Pedro in a playoff game too long. He does seem to become expendable. Now waiting on the Torre signing.

I agree, Tom. I usually cringe at re-mixings and such, but that 'Love' cd really works, though certainly not taking the place of the originals.

He's only the best CF in the game right now. I didn't mean he'd be replacing Arod at third.I meant that losing Arod and gaining Hunter sounds fine with me, if it comes to it. Damon has pretty much moved from CF to left. I'm also not on a bandwagon for the Yankees to get him. I wish he'd stay with the team he started with, but I doubt he's listening to me.

Tori Hunter is the prize of the group. I'm sorry to see him leaving the Twins. Unfortunately Kirby Puckett is no longer around to talk some sense into him. If the Yankees do sign him, he's more than a nice replacement for Arod. I'll take his heart over Arods 50 home runs anyday. It's official-the Yankees signed Girardi.

It looks like the Yankees will hire Girardi as of today. The Dodgers were very interested in Girardi also. One never knows what affect a new manager will have, but it seems to me Giradi and the Yankees might work out nice. Unless it doesn't. Girardi is a hard core 'fundementals' type , and has played with several on the team. I am so hoping the Dodgers sign Torre. They haven't had an effective manager since Lasorda retired, and Joe will bring his experience and 'presence' to a team that desperately needs to regain it's former glory. The Dodger clubhouse fell to pieces last year, with veterans and younf players hostile to each other, and Grady lost in the middle. Torre will not allow that to happen. At least I like to think he won't.

I think it was 'Rubber Soul' (among alot of other things) that inspired 'Pet Sounds'. And it was 'Pet Sounds' that helped spark 'Sgt Peppers'. Paul has stated that he considers 'God Only Knows' from Pet Sounds to be the greatest song ever. That maybe saying too much, but there have times when I see what he means. Thanks Rainbow-'All you Need is Love" and "I'll Follow the Sun" make any 'Top 10 (or 20) list of my favorite Beatle songs.

The Dodgers are also talking to Joe Girardi, in case the Torre deal doesn't happen. Either way, it looks like the Dodgers are going to get a good Joe.

I made it up, Rocky. I thought Joe would go good with the new color scheme in Dodger Stadium. Seriously, it was featured on my Yahoo home page from something called the PA sports ticker. The article also states that Don Mattingly may be joining him as coach ! My favorite manager, and favorite player, coming to my now home town !! It's still early in the morning here. I haven't got the local sports on TV or the paper yet. I'm hoping this will be big news in a few hours.

Those Beatle concerts WERE 30 minutes long, though they first got 'good' by playing all night sessions in German clubs. It was the Brian Epstein managed 'fab 4', that put on those structured concerts with the lapel-less suits. And yes, they couldn't be heard above the screaming girls. It became a thing they couldn't escape, as every teen must have felt it her duty to scream through the whole concert. They quit touring in '66. and did not perform in the Sgt Pepper costumes.They did have that famous last impromptu concert on the roof of Apple Studios , not long before they broke up, which would have been at the 'Abbey Road' time.

Sorry to ruffle your feathers Mstar. It's ok with me if you want to cherry pick my posts in here to accuse of me of all sorts of horrible things. We can't all be the perfect fan that you are. I also didn't say the Sox didn't play well. The Rockies sure didn't. My point was that these 4 and out series are hurting baseball. They are only memorable to the fans of the winning team. One of the last series to go to the wire was the Dbacks beating the Yankees, and that was great. I'm not an Arod supporter. All I said was that he's not going to change the way he is for an organization. I've never 'bailed' on a team. I have become less emotionally attached in the sense that it's only a friggin game. I have too many real world concerns to allow myself to get that worked up over wins and losses. I've never made claims as to what a 'real fan' is, as you're accusing me. True, I have talked about Dodger Stadium, and other aspects of going to games. I don't think to the exclusion of what's going on on the field. Hey I warned you about JD Drew and Gagne, didn't I ? Seems like you've waxed poetic about everything Fenway in your time.I've written many a post on what's going on with games I've attended. I also never said money wins baseball games. No one knows it more than myself that it doesn't. It's just that you can't read a word about the Yankees ever without money being the reason for their success, or money not bringing success. The Sox are now in that same stratosphere money wise, and what's good for the goose... And as far as your accusation that I don't think fans of other teams are as 'enlightened' as myself. I'm sorry if I ever gave that impression, and not sure what I've ever posted to imply that. You know we always got along fine until I started bringing the Yankees into it. I supressed alot of thoughts and didn't express my lifelong following of them because I know that noone cares to hear it. Everyone but Yankee fans dislike them, so I saw no reason to go there. I have talked of my respect for Jeter, Torre, Williams and others, but it must have been lost in my posts about Dodger Stadium. I guess I'm now one of those Yankee fans you have to 'keep an eye on', as you've said. I'm really not spoiling for any fights, but that was a pretty hurtful post , and I couldn't let it sit without response.

Of course it was a thing of beauty for the Red Sox fans. You wouldn't wax so eloquently if any other team had swept. Great for Boston fans, borefest for the rest of the world. You think they'll tell Arod he'll have to change before Boston signs him ? Man, are you delusional.

Mstar has stated often that he doesn't like Arod, and is glad they didn't get him a few years ago. Of course, if Boston were to get him he would find a way to live with it I'm sure. I really don't understand Hap's sentiment that he knows nothing of the AL and doesn't care to. It's either interest in one team myopia, or is it NL snobbery, which I find alot of here in Dodgerville. All I can say is I've enjoyed baseball so much more since moving away from the NY area and freeing myself of my own Yankee myopia.I enjoy knowing about the Dodgers, Yankees, Brewers, Toledo Mud Hens. The game is so varied and interesting in different places. One doesn't need to be a 'fan' of a team or league to want to learn about them. I'm an American Leaguer at heart who goes to 25 games a year in a NL park. Indians-Rockies would have made for a better series. ANYTHING would have made for a better series. One of the worst ever.

Another boring World Series. Used to be, even though they lost, the Sox in the Series was memorable.-'67, '75. '86-great series. These 4 and out Series are killing the concept. Since it gets thrown at the yankees at every turn, maybe the payroll gap plays a part. You could field 2 more Rockie teams and not match the Sox payroll. Face it-the Yankees and the Red Sox are the beasts from the east, and the similarities far outweigh the differences. Still it's not over yet. Maybe the Rockies will still make a series out of it.

ah-Night Gallery That was an hour show. The last hurrah for Rod Serling before his 7 pack a day (!!!) smoking habit caught up to him. (I'm almost positive I read that he smoked that much, though it probably wasn't THAT much). Cigarettes certainly cut his talented life short.

"Twilight Zone" was an hour show for one season. It was better in 30 minutes. The hour long shows seemed 'padded', and I can't think of one of them that stays in the memory like so many of the 30 minute episodes. Always enjoy "Beaver" updates. Did any kid actor ever out grow his role the way Jerry Mathers did ? He lost his charm, naturalness, and acting ability as soon as he hit puberty. It's no accident that the last year of the show focused more on Wally and Eddie, who got better over time. Even Barbara Billingsley admits that Mathers 'lost it' before the show ended. Not to rag on the Beav though. In his prime, that was one good kid actor. This may be of interest only to George, but Lainie Kazan was the 'model' for Jack Kirby's character Big Barda, in his Mister Miracle comic book. That's straight from 'King' Kirby's mouth.

So sorry to hear about your uncle, Mstar. I hope the game helps with the grieving process. It almost is enough to want your Sox to win for your sake.

There's only one thing I know for sure about baseball. Just when you think you know what's what, it throws you a curveball. As I've often quoted Yogi-"In baseball, you don't know nothing." I don't think the Rockies have much of a chance. I think they played way over their heads that last month , and the time off brought reality back. People love to compare payrolls whenever a team faces the Yankees. I don't think that means much, but just for kicks one can compare the Rocks and the Socks payroll. I think I'll go by the wisdom of Yogi in this one.

It's common for me to run through the 300 channels on my digital TV only to realize there's 'nothing on'. I'm really not that hard to please either. Somehow I found the 8 channels I got back in the stone age infinately more entertaining, both with new programming, and with stations library of reruns. Now, you get old films on TCM (God Bless them), AMC, and that's just about it. Old TV series on TVland, and Nick at Night and that's about it. USA plays Law and Order all night long every night. Good show but not THAT good.

don't apologize-I agree with you. I also think series weekend games should be played in the afternoon-at least on Saturday. I think the ratings would be way higher than Saturday night, besides making millions of fans happy, and giving kids a game they can watch start to finish. Don't hold your breath. First pitch tonight probably won't be until 8:30 or so eastern time. That's so wrong in so many ways.

No danger to me personally, thanks, but there are many out of control fires surrounding me and down the coast. It has filled the air toxically, and people are urged to stay indoors. I do know people who live precariously close to fire, but so far haven't lost their homes. A World Series is a needed diversion, which brings home the point of baseball-it's a diversion from the struggles and pressures of life.It really doesn't matter who wins and loses, except as I've said, if your team wins you feel good, if they lose you feel bad-then you go on with your real life. As far as I'm concerned, making anything else out if it is giving it too much importance, though I have certainly been guilty of that.

It would be nice if some of that rain was sent out this way. It's difficult to care much about millionaires hitting a ball with a stick, while fires are burning out of control and hundreds are losing their homes.

I've never said he's not a great player. but missing games with 'mysterious' illnesses, hot dogging home runs when your team is 5 runs down, any other player wouldn't get that pass.

Manny's a great hitter-and really should be a greater player. He'll hit .250 when he gets old-then Manny being Manny won't seem so lovable. I wish Vlad had more plate discipline-but who knows ? It might hurt his game. Yogi used to swing at balls over his head and line doubles off the wall. Sometimes hitters are who they are.
