Those questions can be asked for alot of teams-teams who also feel they're not 'just another franchise'. I have to say that if someone uproots their family and career for a baseball game, then baseball has become an unhealthy and damaging hobby. I also don't think it means the Sox are more 'special' because some people are screwed up. I also think Jim Rice belongs in the Hall, whatever 'need' there was for a 'nation' is moot at this point,and that it's good that Fenway is still around.

Baseball is full of what if's. The Yankees were just about to close out the Sox in '94 when a ball was fair within inches, then the train derailed. That '78 game was amazing from every angle. Of course my feelings were the opposite of Mstar's. He's had his revenge since then. The Goose was in trouble with every batter, yet kept his composure, which is the difference between a 'winner' and 'loser'. The play by Piniella where he lost the ball in the sun, but 'faked' that he had it, holding the runner, was classic. In 'the Bronx Zoo'-the Sparky Lyle book-he describes the series against the Dodgers as anti-climactic, saying that the Red Sox had the Dodgers beat as a team in every way. I'd agree with him that year.

Good for the Goose ! A truly awesome 'closer' who seemed to usually come in with the bases loaded and no outs-often in the 7th, and then pitch the rest of the game. My personal favorite memory is the '78 playoff game between the Yanks-Sox, where he pitched the last 2+innings. That was some game.

I just read where Mcnamee doesn't want to appear before congress. His lawyer says he's tired of the publicity and wants to 'move on' with his life. I'm not reading that as an indicator of truth or anything, but it struck me as 'funny'. Hey, I know I set fire to your house, but please don't ask me to talk about it. I'd rather move on, if that's alright.

The Rangers made the playoffs at least a couple of times in the late 90's, only to run up against a Yankee team that could do no wrong for a few years. The Dodgers have a history of burning out pitchers, and Koufax came before Tommy Lasorda, who was merciless on pitchers. It was probably wise of Koufax to retire before his arm was shot. I don't think anyone would have wanted to see a watered down Koufax getting shelled. Better to leave in a blaze of glory. I just saw Koufax 'face to face'( well, sort of-he was on the Dodger float at the Rose Parade and I got within a few feet of him) Darned if doesn't still look like he could pitch a few innings.

As far as this particular bit of Monkee information, I remember the segment well from my long gone youth. The details were filled by a commentary by Nesmith on the Monkee's dvd , showing every episode of the series, with commentaries on selected episodes. Most of the jumbled mix of useless knowledge in my head is a combination of memory, internet, books, and any other arcane source. These days, there's access to almost anything, if one decides to search. I too, find Borgnine's longevity a mystery. But I'm glad he's still around.

actually, it was just Frank Zappa dressed as Mike Nesmith, and Nesmith dressed as Zappa. Nes asked Zappa to appear on the show, and Zappa said he would if he could be Nesmith, with the wool hat. Mike said sure, if he could be Zappa. The scene played out with Nesmith as Zappa interviewing Zappa as Nesmith. A great moment in tv history. I actually still enjoy a fair share of Monkees music, though maybe I shouldn't say so too loudly.

I find it humorous when I hear the Yankees haven't won the series in 7 YEARS !!!!!!!!! Horrors. How can they show their face with such a legacy of failure. And of course the comeback will be-with all that money , they should win EVERY year. It's not that simple. Ask any Cub, Dodger, Met, and until recently, Red Sox fan. Success always brings criticism . The Cowboys are 'hated' to this day. Heck, I just read a book by Steve Martin, where he talks about his long path to success. The rave reviews when he 'made it', followed by the trashing of him once he was at the top. Maybe it's human nature to root for the underdog, and take the top dog down a peg.

You know they're 'America's team'when people start hating them. There's not much good said about the Pat's on the other side of the country. Same with the Bosox, now that they're part of the 'elite'. With all this success, Boston may yet give New York a run for their money in the 'hate' department.

I don't know from legal or criminal proceedings or anything. I do know that Clelmens is going on 60 Minutes, and will probably have to testify under oath before congress. Whether it's a 'trial' or not, or if he's going to jail wasn't my point. My point is that it takes balls harder than what the roids provide to ask for the opportunity to lie like that. He's either real comfortable with lieing, or maybe there's the one in a thousand chance he's telling the truth.

I'm not trying to defend him. I'm just saying he's playing with serious fire. If he's lieing, he gets what's coming if it blows up in his face. As far as players getting better with age, I agree. Though he really hasn't been that great the last few years.I also don't know how to explain Nolan Ryan.

I have to say I'm surprised he came out in no uncertain terms to proclaim his innocence, since I, like everyone else, believe he did it. Still, the last I looked, this is still the United States, in spite of Bush, and presumably we're still innocent until proven guilty. If nothing else, Clemens is putting his entire reputation on the line. If he's as guilty as seems likely, then the crash is going to be harder than if he kept his mouth shut . While I still believe he's guilty, I'm questioning more and more the reliability of these 2 guys that have been given all this credibility. I mean, just who are these guys, and how do we know they don't have an agenda ? Im just asking.
