I should be easy to spot among the 115 thousand ! I'm right behind first base-about 60 rows up!! My biggest concern is where to park. I have a feeling I'll be missing Dodger Stadium before I'm out of the car. I wonder how the ball will play off the left field screen. Seems to me you could have balls landing in the infield. This will certainly be the strangest game I've ever been to. Maybe. I've been to some strange ones with normal dimensions. I wish they hadn't closed off right field. They should have let it go to the wall. Of course then they couldn't have that great 'standing area'. That sounds like too much fun!

It's Jose Canseco at it again. He has no proof of anything, and also claims Arod was hitting on his wife. Canseco may feel 'vindicated' because it's clear that steroids are a big problem, but that doesn't mean everyone he has an axe to grind with is now fair game. I don't know if Arod did or didn't do steroids, but I am clear that Canseco is 'vindictive' more than 'vindicated'.

So I'm awake at 3am for some reason, and flip channels only to find the opening game of the season on. Baseball at 3 am... It still felt like a spring training game to me, but of course it's not. Shaky start by dice-k, but it looks like the Sox won. Maybe I'm too old, but I liked it better when opening day was a big deal, and always in Cincinnatti.

I'm with you on the politics, mstar. Since I have no other outlet, I'm going to vent here, much as I don't want to get into Yankees vs Red Sox stuff. I was listening to a radio pundit yesterday who was a Sox fan, and rightfully praising the players for fighting for their coaches in Japan. Then she goes "and what about the Yankees? Where were their players? They didn't do anything. There's the difference between the teams, folks." Of course I couldn't jump through the radio and inform her that 1-the Yankees aren't GOING to Japan, so it wasn't an issue, and 2-while that was going on, the Yankees were playing a charity game at Virginia Tech to help the healing from the tragedy there. Right now I'm feeling good about the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Dodgers, and the coming season. Radio pundits, be they political or sports, can rain on a sunny day.

A tip of my cap to the Sox players for sticking up for the coaches. It's amazing how MLB can be so penny wise and pound foolish-not unlike a mega corporation I'm involved with. Now Nomar has a bone fracture that will probably last who knows how long. This is on top of the injury to La Roche, who was competing with him for 3rd base. Thia means the Dodgers HAVE no 3rd base. They're resisting dealing for Joe Crede from the 'other' Sox, but I'd be finding a way to make that deal myself. Barry Bonds is still looking for a team. Will Oakland take the bait? Or maybe the Rays ?

Nice story of the Yankees going to Virginia Tech. I heard one rabid Sox fan there say it will be hard for him to root against the Yankees now, which is a statement we won't hear mstar say in this lifetime. A friend at work loves going to spring training camps. He trekked cross country last year to see Dodgertown before it closed, and raved about the laid back atmosphere, the closeness to the players, and the opportunities to just wander around the various fields to watch practice between games. His plan is to take his son to spring training in Arizona every year when the Dodgers move there. Well, he was in Arizona last week to see the Giants, and Cubs. He said it was like going to a major league game. You couldn't get in the park early, get close to the players or see them practice, and he spent 20 dollars for a seat that would cost 6 dollars at Dodger Stadium. As he talked with fans at the park and expressed his concerns, the response he heard most was that the laid back spring training camps he missed were so 'east coast'. Stuck in the past. With many of the Arizona camps being new parks, MLB has turned spring training into another cash cow. For me, I'm counting the days to opening day, though I do have a little game at the LA Coliseum first.

I forgot I started this. Here's the next line... "As soon as you're born, they make you feel small By giving you no time, instead of it all" -
Mine says a lot about me, but I'm not sure I can explain why.

I'm happy for you, mstar. I'd like to hug the 8 trophies that have been relevant in my lifetime. What was the event where you got to fondle the merchandise? Glad you're enjoying Crazy 08. There were a few times while reading it that I thought,"Mstar would appreciate this", so I guess you and the others here are in my head. Joe Torre looks fine in Dodger blue, and I'm glad he's here. I think it was time to leave NY, and that he's perfect for the Dodgers right now. A slight improvement over Grady Little whatever happens. I'm actually feeling sorry for the Red Sox and the weird way they have to start the season. Playing official games overseas, then 3 exhibition games against the Dodgers seems like abusive scheduling. Of course I'm thinking like a 50 year old man. I'm sure these fellows in the prime of life can handle it.

Sudo, I'm with you on Joan Crawford, but Sophia Loren was ,and still is, extraordinary. Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder.

exc-CBS radio has been the broadcast home of the Yankees for years. I'm not sure how widespread it is though.

Happy Birthday, Jardinero ! Wherever you are !

The Dodgers just announced they're selling 25000 more tickets for the Coliseum game. Since there are no more seats right now, that means most of them are standing room only-out in right field behind the makeshift fence I wish wasn't there, and miles away beyond right field. This will make a crowd of 115000, the largest ever to watch a ball game. I'm holding back on the beer in the hope that I don't have to use the facilities. The LA Times had a picture of the field today, and I swear there is no left field. The best part of the day may be batting practice. Rumor has it that Wally Moon (of the famous 'Moon-shots' back in the Coliseum days) will be on hand, and just may take some swings himself !

That teaching is so clearly sick and wrong that I wonder at my blindness the 40 plus times I sat through that *^$%^#@ class. And that's like in the first hour. What was the magic spell that got us to buy into that bozo ? -

go for it bfh-I've done enough de-railing -
It was a rather awkward way of 'supporting' Pettite. That despite the drug thing, he's a great guy in Arod's book. From what I know of Pettite, I'd agree with that . It's possible the scores of players that dodged the bullet on the narrow Mitchell report agree also.

Got my tickets for the Dodgers-Sox Coliseum game today. Pretty nice seats behind first base, about half way up the bowl. This should be some event, and I have to think they'll want Koufax throwing out the first pitch. I'll be taking pictures and if I can figure out how to display them here, I will. I'll try to get shots that show the weird dimensions, and some Sox shots just for Mstar. It will also be a rare game for me to bring a radio to listen to Vin broadcast. Maybe I can find a retro transistor type.

Well, Henry is chiming in, saying he believes rehab is the best treatment-like he knows. That sounds like a form of interference to me-very Steinbrenner -like actually. Now the Cats-that looks like fun !

I'm sure if we dug a little, we'd find ways that John Henry isn't the Second Coming. The Sox have certainly put together a winning formula, and are managed well, but I can assure you that owners are owners. I'm not sure they're not jeopardizing Schilling's arm for life when his own doctor is saying that surgery is the only answer. I forget the name of the Padres pitcher whose arm literally fell off in mid pitch in the late 80's, but I wonder if it's worth it to try to salvage a few more starts off an old arm.

The song is 'Dandelion'. Not the Stones biggest hit by a long shot, but one that's ingrained in my brain at least. -
Dodger ticket prices go up, up, up every year. I finally understood why when I read that Frank McCourt just bought another 35 million dollar home in Malibu-one wasn't enough, apparently.

True. I thought "I can't get no...." would be TOO easy, though. -

That's true. The next line contains the title, so I'll let it be for awhile longer. -

I didn't think I was picking hard songs. This one was a top 10 hit by one of the top 2 or 3 rock bands ever. "Prince or pauper, beggar man or thing Play the game with every flower you bring"
