Until a couple of years ago,Forrest Ackerman ( octogenarian sci fi buff, and creator of the old Famous Monsters of Filmland mag), opened his house, called the Ackermansion, as a museum of countless props. costumes, artwork, and anything he could get his hands on from genre films. As I roamed around a dark, dusty basement, I found the statue that comes to life in 'Jason and the Argonauts"-the one that they defeat by opening it's ankle to let whatever that stuff was, out. It was maybe a foot high, and shoved in a basement corner, under a pipe. He had so much stuff, that I guess he couldn't find room, but it seemed to me that such a wondrous item from one of my favorite films from my youth, should be given a more honored place. Forrest is now in his late 80's, and he had to move out of the Ackermansion for health reasons a couple years ago. Much of the stuff was either sold off, or resides in places unknown. I'm glad I got there before it went away.

I was going to 'joke' about this situation and how this is just 'Manny being Manny', but I think it's sad , not funny. What's wrong with this guy ? Why go out of your way to dismantle a relationship with a team and a city like this ? I guess it's going to be the Cubs-Angels in the Series-unless it's not. I'm sure that 9 out of 10 fans outside of Anaheim will be pulling for the Cubs, because of the 100 year mark, and the incredible press they get every year (much of which is because of Wrigley Field, imo). I've never bought into the Cubs-though I like the current team and manager, and would love to see a game at Wrigley. The team is usually no more interesting than the Reds, or Astros to me. We'll probably get all crossed up and it will be Twins-Phillies, which sounds fun to me.

You could be right , mstar-I'm sure they thought about it several times-that doesn't mean it will work out though. The NY Post-newspapers version of Fox news, ran a full page back cover picture of Manny and Pedro Martinez-Pedro is campaigning for the Mets to trade for him.Oddly enough, the Mets are the one team where a Manny deal makes sense to me . He'll wear out his welcome the first time he has 'sore knees', but would likely go on a tear for the rest of this season, and be the star of the NY rags for awhile.

I went wow, was a twig coordinator, ran a couple pfal classes, and other stuff long before I took the advanced class, so I'm sure in my case, the hard core indoctrination was in full swing before I got there. Still, I'll never forget the letter sent after I finished the advanced class, especially the statement stating in no uncertain terms that as an ac grad, the ministry owes me NOTHING, but that I owe the ministry MY LIFE. I never thought 'the ministry' did owe me anything, and I knew they weren't referring to the 'ministry of reconciliation' in what I owed to them.

Maybe Kotchman going to the Braves will work out for him, and them. He was one of those 'can't miss' prospects, that never seemed to pull it together with the Angels. He also had issues with Mike Sciosia, who usually sat him down against left handed pitchers. Maybe he'll realize his potential with a new team, and Bobby Cox.

The Angels are looking like the strongest team anywhere right now.I hesitate to 'pick' them, only because this is still baseball and anything can happen-especially in the playoffs. Still-I'm looking forward to heading south to Angel Stadium this month. One of the Dodgers biggest mistakes (among many) was letting Mike Scoscia get away. The Angels play the game 'right'( are we done calling it 'National league' style baseball ? I cringe whenever I hear that-and have yet to see much of it at Dodger Stadium lately). That was an impressive move, getting Teixera, and unloading Kotchman. That's the best the Braves could do ?

Except for the Dodger life long die hards-which I admittedly am not-the Giants rivalry is not very relevant or passionate at the moment. I've seen it at a heated pitch-unfortunately being in the parking lot the night a Giants fan was shot-but right now, the Giants aren't very interesting-especially without Bonds to hate. I'm more intrigued with the upcoming series with the Dbacks. I'm watching the Yankee Stadium dvd as I type. Thanks for the tip , mstar. Many memories, and great footage. Probably because it's so recent, but the footage of Bobby Murcer going on a tear the night of Thurman Munson's funeral moved me tremendously.

I was wrong-Jones is making 36 million, not 32. Clam chowder at Fenway sounds good to me. I pray every game not to be sitting next to beer guzzling rowdies.

Jones signed a 2 year ,32 million contract. Between him and Jason Schmidt big contract(Schmidt has been on the dl for 2 years now), Dodger fan is screaming for gm Ned Colletti's head.-as loud as a typical Dodger fan can scream that is. Because of the money they're paying Jones, they keep putting him out there every day, to a daily chorus of boos. Last night , he didn't strike out amazingly, but he did hit into a double play. The Dodgers best of is Juan Pierre, Matt Kemp, and Andre Ethier, but one of them has to sit every night so Jones can be run out there. The Dodgers are desperate for someone who can hit homeruns, and are hoping that Jones will somehow turn it around. I'm hoping to win the lottery , too, but hey, I love to be proved wrong so we'll see. The Nats proved as boring as I thought, but I'm not about to gripe about spending a Saturday summer evening in Dodger Stadium. Dodger Dogs can either be terrific or inedible based on how well they're grilled, and how hot they are. They're made at a central grill, wrapped in foil and distributed to all the stands. If you get them freshly delivered, they're cold as ice, and not worth buying. It actually helps to let them sit for some time in the heating bins-the dog is piping hot, and the bun is softened. I've turned back Dogs when the foil is cold to the touch, and had arguments with the vendors who all claim that they're hot off the grill-they're not-they've been wrapped and shipped down a level. Last night I had 2 very good Dodger Dogs-piping hot, and grilled great, with mustard and chopped onion. I don't like the relish there. Dodger Stadium as a whole would rank low in terms of food choices. They have nothing like Boog Powell's bbq in Baltimore, which if I ever get there, I'll have to try.

I don't get this pattern that seems to have set in the last few years. Yankees start the season awful, Sox jump out at the gate. Yankees find themselves around now, while Sox come back to earth, then we see what September brings. Of course there are those Rays. I'm off to see the Dodgers-Nationals. The Nats are about as boring a team as I can think of, but a games a game. I'm glad Don Mattingly is now on board full time. We'll see if even he can help the hapless Andruw Jones, who's hitting around .165 last I looked(.072 with runners in scoring position-oyvey).

Did you go out with a bang, or silently into the night?

I left so quietly, no one knew I was gone. I thought of all the years where it was absolutely crucial that I show up for every meeting, every class, every function, or face the wrath of a long line of leaders. Now I was leaving , and no one gave a rat's a**. That was just fine with me, but I did find it 'funny' that I once thought these people actually 'cared' about me on some level. -
I think I recall warning you about Gagne at the time. Of course I also warned you about Drew, and right now, he's carrying your team, so it shows how much I know. At least the Dodgers had Gagne when he was good ( and super-charged with roids). Drew was nothing but a bust here. Maybe laid back LA lulled him to sleep, and he needs the energy of a northeast city. Another relaxing series at Fenway this weekend. In these days of lowered expectations, I'll be ok if the Yankees can salvage one. Their recent streak may be an illusion, since the Twins always lose at the Stadium.

Randy looks to me like he's come by his acne, bad hair , and 'movie star' looks honestly. In other words, he looks like most of the rest of us.

even though I was aware of this, it still depresses me. I played some little league baseball-and A LOT of pick up sandlot. I learned how to hit, catch, and throw, by spending endless hours with whoever I could find to play with. I wouldn't have even MADE the little league team without it. I guess these days everyone makes the team, which is another debate. I was once the last cut on a team, and it threw me for a loop. It also made me honestly access my abilities in order to improve. I loved wearing my Raybestos Cardinals uniform (#8-same as Yogi), but those games were a drop in the bucket compered to my daily life of keeping my glove on my handle bars, just in case I run into a game somewhere.

I did post a new one. George got it, and handed the next one off to whoever wants it.

not to split hares, but- I was correctly quoting the second quote-I just didn't describe it to your satisfaction. I was correct with the 3rd quote also, and yes, it's 'Hair -raising Hare'. The other scientist, monster cartoon is 'Water, water, everyHare', with the monster, but a different mad scientist-not the Peter Lorre type. I did miss the card game quote-though the 'drawing a gun' was either from the same cartoon, or another western.

George is right

I found the Jeter and Arod story interesting, and is one reason why Jeter is still my favorite player.

"look who's here-genie with the light brown scalp." "I need a place to hide." "quick. Grow some hair." "I did not come here to be insulted." "oh? Where do you usually go. I'll go anywhere."

I waited awhile, hoping someone else would get it, but finally couldn't resist.

The first 2 quotes are from Yosemite Sam- The first while he's trying to 'draw a gun', the second during a shootout with Bugs Bunny on a train. it's either 'Bugs Bunny Rides Again', or one of the other Bugs, Sam westerns. The next 2 quote are from Bugs-can't remember the title off hand but it's one of the 2 that feature the mad scientist and his odd, hairy ,monster. Bugs feels like he's being watched from his rabbit hole because he is-by the mad scientist . Bugs says the 'little slice of heaven' remark, as he tries to leave the scientists castle by packing a suitcase with clothes he doesn't own. That good enough ?

The low carb diet certainly works. Can't argue with Sudo's results ! In my case, I went from 220 to 175 in 2 years by cutting out fast food, soda, and huge portions. Otherwise, I ate anything, including carbs ,in moderation. I can occasionally have pancakes on Sunday morning, without beating myself up or gaining the weight back.

I took a picture of that sign , too. My guess is that some fortunate soul will glom that sign. Probably everything and anything will be claimed-that's a major prize, there, though! Many thanks for the momento, thought ! I won't hold you to it, of course, but I appreciate the thought. Hey, ya never know !

The best thing about roa '76, was that it was still at the Shelby County fairgrounds in Sidney. Instead of the antiseptic, controlled way hq, those grounds featured lovely wooden structures, in various states of disrepair, actual dances at night after the big meeting, grass growing wild, and a few step walk to the town store, passing the protesters . The chaos was great fun.
