They did consider making Gerard the murderer, but the idea was dismissed right away, according to the stuff I've read about the show. The one armed man isn't killed in the last episode. Kimble finally catches up to him on top of a water tower, and basically beats a confession out of him. As I'm writing this, I'm thinking it's possible the one armed man DID die, though I don't remember it that way. Gerard would have had to be convinced he did it before he died though, or he'd still have gone on accusing Kimble.

I just came in on this one, and of course it's the Fugitive. There are plenty of shows that are 'before our time'. TV used to be thick with stations that ran reruns of anything and everything. That seems to be history now, outside of the few bones TVland throws us. On the plus side , we have DVD's, though for reasons I can't fathom, shows like 'the Fugitive' are monkeyed with, 'updating' music scores that essentially change the experience. I've been watching the first season of 'My Three Sons', which wasn't a bad show for the first few years. The music score almost bizarre at times. At least they ell you in fine print on the box that the music has been changed. They just don't tell you why. I'm sure there's some legal thing that saves the company a dollar or two, but I can't imagine what that would be. Oh well, pardon my rant.

The Dodgers have offered Manny 45 mil for 2 years. Of course that's a lot of money, but it's basically telling him to go elsewhere. Boras the anti-christ wants a 6 year deal. For a 37 year old player, that's kinda absurd, but offering 2 years is a joke. I really question the Dodgers commitment to winning, and respect for the fans. I also question their intelligence. Manny made the Dodgers respectable and exciting for the first time in 20 years. It's impossible to overstate the difference in going to a Dodger game after Manny arrived . He's already made them millions, and the Dodgers didn't even pay him last year ! Andruw Jones was given a 36 million, 2 year contract. That's in the ballpark of the Manny offer. Without Manny, the Dodgers are an average team. The problem is, even when they're horrible, the Dodgers draw close to 4 million a year. They may come late, and leave early, but the Dodgers still got your money. If that's the best offer they can do, it's quite sad. They'll spin it to the fans as having 'done their best'. I don't think anyone's buying it this time. They'll still be at the park next year though, because there's nowhere better to be in LA on a summer evening than Dodger Stadium-regardless how crappy the team on the field is. I look for Manny to be with the Yankees or Angels. Either is fine with me. I'll enjoy seeing Manny cement the Angels as LA's best team, or I'll enjoy seeing him open up new Yankee Stadium. At least with the Angels, I can still go see him in person. I'll just have to leave work earlier to get to Anaheim.

it sure gets lonely, being the only Yankee fan here.

wow-Bob Clarke ! He drew great 'advertising' satires. Very funny illustrations of mock cookie boxes , etc. Also a very solid cartoonist-as all those old Mad artists were. Working at studios like Disney, Warner Bros., and Sony, I've seen and briefly met a number of famous people, but have yet to be 'friends' with anyone who's a household name-unless you count artists in animation famous-which they're not.

yeah-right between the eyes. I was 12. A guy on the mound (Bob Tremello-I remember his name) throwing as hard and as wild as he could. First pitch came right at my head, and I was a deer caught in the headlights. The pitch busted my glasses apart-which may have protected my head some. Bleeding profusely, getting a few stitches that day. I recall the first (and about the last) girl who had a 'crush' on me being at the game, and sitting with me, while I waited for the car to take me to the doctor. I was too young to know how to work on that sympathy though. For a long time after that, I couldn't bat against fast pitch. I flinched whenever a ball came anywhere inside. I worked through it a couple of years later by making myself hit in a batting cage. Of course, by that time my team playing days were a memory, and I was doing it for myself. It was a surprise to me that I learned to hit again. By that time I knew the Yankees weren't going to be needing me, though.

I never wore the 'tools of ignorance', but I did get a fastball from an erratic little league pitcher right between my eyes-made me flinch from pitching for a long time, and ruined my major league hopes

I also think that Manny and NY is a tough fit. I can even see the Angels getting him, if the Dodgers can't put it together. That would fry Dodger fan, and would be just as good for Manny. Actually better for Manny in that he can dh-especially in years 2 and 3. Plus he'd be hitting with Vlad (and Tex?). I just think he'd be happier in laid back LA, than anywhere in the north. Maddon was referring to the revenues small market teams have received from MLB. I'm not familiar enough with how they work. Joe seemed to think the Rays benefited by the big market payrolls. I don't recall where I read it, but it must have been a quote in the LA Times right after the series.

This sounds like another jab at the Yankees and their money-which hasn't won too many championships for a few years, anyway. Let's see-the Dodgers,Angels, Mets, Red and White Sox, , just for starters, are big market, big money teams, willing and able to pay big bucks when they want to. I don't think it's a cooincidence that most of these teams compete with other teams in the same market. In a perfect world it would be great if the Yankees were to scale back to a Twins like payroll. They'd be watching the Mets grab the NY market, but it would make those who don't care happy. Speaking of redistribution of wealth, Joe Maddon was thanking the Yankees and Red Sox for supplying the Rays with the very redistribution referred to.

uh oh. The Yankees are expressing 'interest' in Manny. I question the Dodgers desire to sign him, as amazing as that sounds after what he accomplished in 2 months. The 2 year deal is quite generous but they know he wants a long term contract. He'd generate enough revenue in a year to cover 4 years in my opinion, but I'm afraid he's going elsewhere. Manny in pinstripes would certainly give them the kick in the pants they need, at least in the short term. I can't imagine trouble not brewing long before the contract is over. The Yankees really need to go younger. Having said that, if the Dodgers are too inept to do the right thing, it would be fun watching Manny on the Yankees, at least for awhile. I know I'm the only one in here that thinks so.

All I know about Way football games, is that whenever I saw them, Martindale was quarterback for BOTH teams !

Watching a baseball game after it's over is like reading yesterday's newspaper. It may be interesting but it's already old news.

No Game Today They'll try again tomorrow-starting in the 6th. Needless to say, this will fuel the arguments for shorter seasons, warm weather neutral stadiums, instant replays, powers of the commissioner, start of game times, and anything else I've missed. Of course I have opinions about all of it. I do think starting a game at 8:30 is absurd. How great would a daytime Series game on the weekend be ? Of course between college and pro football competing, it'll never happen-but it should.
-
This could go 7 games-which would be fun. Upton is fast becoming one of those rare players you would pay to go see. I hope the good folks in Tampa think so too.

Billingsley's comments reflected badly on Billingsley-as least that's how I perceived them. Martin's offense did go down-and I blame it on overwork, too. He never wanted a day off. The Dodgers already had Lugo-no thanks Youkilis -now that sounds intriguing Ellsbury is available ? What did I miss ? There is no need for Crisp or any of really. Pitching is always welcome, though as Casey Stengel once said-"you have to have a catcher, otherwise there's all passed balls".

I still haven't heard any Sox names proposed in this 'deal'. And just what is a ML ready prospect ? There's no such thing until a player proves himself in the bigs. The Dodgers are loaded with guys who are still trying to prove they're ML ready. And what veterans are the Sox anxious to unload for Martin ? I can't think of anyone the Sox would part with that the Dodgers need or want. Teaming Ortiz with Manny again looks good on paper, but there's nowhere to play him, so that's out. I haven't heard any of this Dodgers front office unhappy with Martin talk. That doesn't mean it's not true, but you'd think the LA media would be at least mentioning it. Looks like they're playing tonight. A baseball game starting at 10 pm. Great. I'm sure the east coast will all be up at 1 for the finish.
-
I'm seeing a dogfight for Texiera between the Angels, Sox, and let's not forget the Yankees, who may (should)be putting him at the top of their list. Is this Martin thing wishful thinking on Sox fans part, or is there a reason to think this is going to happen ? I don't see the Dodgers doing this deal, certainly not to get rid of Jones. And what are they being offered in return? JD Drew back ?
-
well, that deal would really put Dodger fan over the edge. The Dodgers have been getting rid of catchers for the last 10 years. They still haven't been forgiven for moving Piazza. Then they traded Paul LoDuca when he was at his best. They then dealt Navarro who is only doing great with the Rays. Russell Martin is the Dodgers most popular player after Manny. I'd be surprised if that deal is made, but then I'm always surprised by baseball.

I'm suspicious of a 2 year offer to Manny. Everyone knows he's wanting 3 or 4 years, I doubt he'll take the 2-generous as it is. Based on what I've seen of Dodger management-they're probably hoping he'll take the big 2 year deal, but will not offer that money any further. Then, if Manny goes elsewhere, they can claim that they did 'their best', while trotting Andruw Jones out again next year. Manny has made such an impact, and Jones is such a disaster, that for once the loyal Dodger fans may really revolt. Just pay the guy, already. Otherwise we may be seeing if he looks slim in pinstripes.

I thought the Rays lost it when they had the bases loaded and hit into a double play. Those opportunities don't come often, and failing to score seems to always come back to haunt. The throw by Upton sent some message. Maybe the Phillies didn't take the scouting report seriously enough, but they will now, and it may change an upcoming game. That was a bullet. Hamels is the Phillies best starting weapon. I don't see the rest of the staff doing as well. I'm hoping this Rays exposure, will help get that cool, new stadium with the sail, moving. The Tropicana is one sad ballpark, and they deserve better.

I lived my first 30 some years in those cold New England winters. Baseball is a fanatical thing there. Of course where I came from, it was all about the Yankees, who happen to be down right now, but we'll see what the winter brings. The AL East may be an even bigger monster by next year. When it comes to the World Series, you have to get into it regardless of who's there. If it's dependent on your team being there, then the vast majority of fans will be disappointed the vast majority of the time. There's plenty of winter coming to reflect, and get ready for next year. These 2 two teams just might put on a heck of a show.

I repeat-there's still baseball to be enjoyed.
