random thoughts- So Arod tested positive in 2003. My only question is why do we not know until 2009 ? I have no sympathy for him-I do find it interesting that scores of lesser names continue to breathe sighs of relief while the big guns go down. The stRangers now have Andruw Jones, and good luck to them. I have never seen any player, at any level, perform worse than Jones did last year. Hey-maybe he's healthy and ready to roll. I certainly wasn't walking in his shoes, and don't know why he lost all of his skills. - The Torre book is good, though it's really the Tom Verducci book. Some interesting stuff I'll get to sometime. A lot of my passion for Yankee baseball-especially the Sox rivalry-died that ugly day in 2003 with the playoff brawl, and has never really returned. Reading this book brought it all back. Sometimes I wish I lived in Kansas City, rooting for the Royals, and knowing there are good seats available most of the time.

While Torre was telling Larry King that the book really isn't about trashing anyone, CNN was scrolling 'Torre slams Yankees' right underneath. It also interesting to me that everything from the internet to papers to whatever, are dying to report 'stuff' on players on a daily basis, but as soon as someone says something in a 'book', it becomes controversial. And I still haven't heard anything that hasn't been said before anyway.

Rice's numbers could be considered 'borderline', but I think he's long overdue to get in. My 2 cents is that the Hall is about more than numbers. It's the Hall of FAME, not the Hall of who sticks around enough years to pile up numbers. Jim Rice was in the elite class of great players of his time. I'm sorry to read that Young wants out of Texas. Who's this 'phenom' that they want to move Young to from short to third for-to the point of causing Young to demand a trade ? Most teams would love Young , for sure, but unless the Rangers are inept, they'd have to get fair value in a trade, which means trading a key player of their own. You never know with trades though.

I had forgotten about the window on display. I recall wondering how they glommed on to it. Did they buy the building just to salvage the window ? Or did they save it when the joint was being torn down ? I know I wasn't moved by it's presence. That was some display in the Sidney house. Besides the window, I recall a lot of Meg K*sh art, and maybe the painting of the 4 'non crosses' that hung in the back of the BRC for a long time. I remember working in the kitchen of the Sidney house one night for some hot shots wedding dinner. I have no idea how I wound up doing that since I wasn't corps, staff, nor knew the people celebrating. This is a real head scratcher. What the heck was I doing ?

I'm sorry that Mstar doesn't have MLB today, as they're showing 3 hours of Red Sox Memories as I type. I'm enjoying it, as I really did like some of the Sox teams and eras of the past. I expect the Sox, and Yankees memories ,so I was more interested in the hour devoted to the '85 Brewers-'Harvey's Wallbangers'- This is the kind of thing I hope to see more of.

I don't care. It sometimes makes for interesting discussion, if for some reason I tell someone I used to be in a cult. I was more embarrassed, and /or ashamed when I was involved. That's probably not what the way wanted from someone who was a twig coordinator, wow vet, advanced class grad.

I wish I knew what was up with Manny. Unfortunately, I have little faith in the Dodgers front office, and won't be surprised to see the Giants or Angels (please-not the Yankees) grab him any day now. Maybe I'm wrong. Dodgers with Manny vs Dodgers without Manny is night and day. Pennant favorite,vs .500 mediocre team. Excited fans vs 'leave early to avoid the traffic'. A reason why you have to stay in your seat vs wandering the park-the parties in the loge outdoor bar area where you can't see the game are amusing to me-cheaper to just go to the neighborhood pub. Dodger management doesn't seem concerned. One bean counter said that no one is threatening to cancel season tickets if Manny isn't here, so no worries. Great. I confess I'm a Manny convert.

Happy Birthday Tom ! It took me a minute to figure out George's picture for 'Tom'-but I finally got it, and enjoyed the clue.

Actually, I didn't find it as fluffy, meaningless , pointless, as George did. I found it anything but 'fluffy'. Sometimes 'messages' come from what you bring to a film, or book. I guess I brought a lot of myself to this one, as it had me examining myself, and life, for some time afterwards. I also read the short story by F Scott Fitzgerald the movie is based on.'Loosely' based is more like it, and I have to say the film made a better story . F Scott wasn't out to write a screenplay of course, but a short story for Colliers, magazine, so it's like comparing apples and oranges, as they say.

bummer-mines on channel 429 !!, and I only stumbled on it by accident. Maybe it's buried deep. I hate cable companies, and the power they have. I've got 500 channels I never watch. Like I said, I'm amazed I'm getting MLB, and I hope you all can also, now or soon. I know it seems futile, but letting the company know you want it can't hurt.

The MLB network finally began yesterday. It's predictably jammed with glitzy sets, that overpower the actual human beings. I'll give it a couple of months before getting too critical, as I still recall ESPN in it's first days. What was wonderful, was the airing in it's entirety (minus the first inning which has disappeared) of the 1956 perfect WS game pitched by Don Larsen. THAT was fun. Mel Allen announced the first few innings, and who but Vin Scully !! did the rest of the game. No 'color' commentators, no bells and whistles, just baseball. They also had the commercials ! Casey Stengel shaving with his Gillette (how are you fixed for blades?) razor. The game was tight and suspenseful. I never appreciated the catch Mantle made in deep left center until seeing it in context. And just to see Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Yogi, etc in a real game context. Don Larsen and Yogi were on hand in the studio, interviewed by Bob Costas between innings. It was all grand. Of course a new cable network only has so many hours programming, so I've been able to see it 3 more times since then if I choose to. They claim to have hundreds of hours of old classic games. That's a feature to look forward to. I think they're airing 26 games this season. Sounds like a 'game of the week' thing. I hope they're creative in games picked, along with the usual 'you know who' teams. If you don't get it, contact your cable company ( yeah, right). I'm still surprised mine has it.

This is the first I've heard of John offering 'temporary user id's'. Maybe I'll look into that, though why he would give me one is beyond me.
